When Disney announced that the Sorcerers hat would be coming down at Hollywood Studios. I didn't really mind the hat, but I thought that meant the ugly stage in front of it would finally be gone for good. Disney, however, decided to do the worst possible thing and put a stage right up in front of the Chinese Theater on May 4th, 2015. I hope it will be down before my June trip. The stage is almost as annoying as the crane at the magic kingdom!

The stage is there for a specific reason Star Wars weekends. It's only there for a month basically but then of course they are doing frozen summer fun so the stage could end up being up through the summer. This is different than the crane being that it's there for an entertainment purpose.

I thought there was talk of a permanent stage. I haven't been there so I can't judge, but I took my wife to Disney 4 times before she saw the castle without a crane behind it. I loathe the crane.

The permanent stage is what the temporary stage is on top of.

A stage is at least part of the overall theme for the Studios. The crane behind Cinderella castle is just bad show.
It's not the stage itself that bothers me. Its the location of it. When the imagineers built the park, I am sure they didn't intend on a stage blocking the Chinese Theater.

Once you add up all of the events the stage is there for, it is there for a pretty big chunk of the year. Not to mention that most everyone would be happier if it weren't there.

I'm absolutely sure this info is somewhere on these forums, but I have been able to fine them. Do we know when the crane might be gone, thereabouts?

(I feel bad for my coworker because he's proposing in WDW next week and had to scrap his original location plans because of that crane!)

Correct me if I am wrong but I don't believe the crane is up right now

It's for entertainment purposes in a park that doesn't have much. I'd take the stage over the hat any day.

The crane is gone right now so your coworker should be fine with his location.

It looks like the new plan is for the theater to be the background scenery for whatever is happening on the stage. Assuming that they don't add backdrops at the rear of the stage structure.

The Crane, no doubt. It makes the perfect iconic Disney selfie/picture a pain.

I actually enjoyed the hat at WDW because it screamed Disney to me. It was a good landmark that non-Disney fans would be able to figure out on social media and what not.

From a different point of view, I grew up with the hat in the park and if I had been to the park when it was not there I was too young to remember. Taking the hat down was actually kind of upsetting to me, because I feel like it was the landmark for me. But I can see why and completely understand why so many thought it didn't belong.

Although I will say that I think the stage impedes the view of the CT as well.

Hooray - the Hat is gone! Hooray!

I haven't see a pic of the stage. I hope it still allows a view of the theatre? (BTW, I would expect a stage there, much the same as the one in front of the Castle at DW, DL, etc...

Chinese Theater----- YES! Have always loved how the pictures looked down Hollywood Blvd with this in the background.
Hat---- glad it's gone from in front of the theater, but it shouldn't have been there in the 1st place. Would have been better outside the turnstiles.
Stage---- usually only up for the 5 weeks of Star Wars Weekends. Not my favorite place for it, but probably is about the only place in the park that can readily showcase it and have room for guests to stand and watch the shows.

Here are some recent (last week/weekend) of the stage
