Not sure why so many people that HAVEN'T been on a Disney cruise tell me its more for kids and you will be miserable or they just start talking so convincingly that when just my hubby and I go without our two kids for our first of two cruises we wont have fun. REALLY? Kids will be coming with us on our second but geesh, its starting to make me doubt my decision and actually starting to tick me off LOL. I even got another couple (he and my husband are co-pastors and she and I are good friends because we have so much in common as pastor's wives) to go on the same cruise with us in February :-) Sigh, but these same people said DCL is one of the highest rated cruise lines though so at least thats a bonus :P

I know people who think PORKY'S is the funniest movie ever!!!

The point being, opinions are personal and filtered through your personal lens of likes and dislikes...when I was young I thought kissing girls was yucky and had to experience it myself before I could make an educated decision. (p.s. it's not nearly as yucky as I thought!)

Go on your cruise, have a great time, and, if you feel something was "missing" as an adult, explore any of the myriad other cruise options out there next time.

I'm pretty sure that you'll have a GREAT TIME!

Those are probably the same people who say that going to Disney World is only good with kids. I'm going on my first cruise sans kids and I'm 50. I can't wait. And I'm going to meet characters and play games, and go to parties, and wear silly hats. Here's the thing I have learned about Disney - it never fails to to do its best to make your trip special as long as you believe in a little bit of pixie dust. If you don't believe in that pixie dust and think that Disney movies are only for children then stay home and let those of us that love Disney enjoy it.

You will have a blast.

DCL is indeed one of the highest rated cruise lines and is always winning awards for best vessels, cruise, serve, entertainment, family cruises, etc,,,,,,,,etc,,,,,,. My wife and I have been going alone on DCL for years and always find the Disney magic and Pixie Dust. However there is also many events, tastings, etc., etc., for Adults. A few years ago we took our past Pastor and wife along with us, and they had a ball! and have since taken their kids on another DCL cruise.

Go...enjoy your cruises!........, as said in the Wizard of OZ, *Pay no attention to the people behind the curtain, talking about that of which they know nothing!* (OK...it was kinda said like that!)

DH and I love cruising DCL as just a couple. Our kids are now adults and can't always travel with us so we go without them. :) We have done Alaska, the Southern Caribbean and have an upcoming Panama Canal itinerary booked as adults-only trips.

There will be plenty for you and your DH to do...or, if you prefer, you can do nothing at all. There are adults only shows, trivia sessions, restaurants and more. Since you will be going with your kids on the second cruise you can hit the adult venues on your first trip and focus on the family areas for your second trip.

In my life I have learned not to listen to others' negative opinions. Everyone has their own interests/tastes so I just go with whatever sounds good to me/my family. We have never regretted any trip we have taken.

My wife and I went on our first Disney cruise this past fall for our honeymoon. We enjoyed everything from the shows, tastings, adult pool, Palo, and Serenity Bay. We enjoyed it so much that we booked our next cruise onboard for our anniversary.

When my SIL found out I'd gone on a DCL cruise solo, she asked me why I didn't go on "a real cruise". Ummmm... pretty sure I was on a real cruise. I experienced incredible service, awesome adults only areas, really fun Mixology class, a wonderful private island with a beach dedicated to adults only, and all this happened on a beautiful ship.

EXACTLY!

NONSENSE! I have only been on Disney Cruise with adults in my family and ALL of us have a great time. Ditto on everything said above. Actually, what you are doing is pretty smart, you can scope out the children's activities for when you go with your kids and get your bearings that way and make it even nicer for them when you DO take them. There are times that the kid's clubs are open for adults to see (open house). I have always wanted to do that. I'm sure someone else can post for when they usually do that.

My suggestion is that you take some notes and make a list of things that you want to make sure your kids won't miss. Also I always make a packing list when I go on a cruise and find something that would make the next one easier.

Please report back after both cruises and tell us we were right!

Have no fear, they are WRONG. Just think of DCL as a very good cruise line that happens to have a lot of side offerings for children. DCL does cruising right and offers a lot for guests of all ages. And let the naysayers keep on thinking otherwise... it will keep demand and costs (somewhat) down for the rest of us!

Completely agree. DCL is family oriented, but provides something for everyone. We've always cruised without children but like DCL best because they have excellent kids' programs that keep the kids active and happy. DCL is very good about keeping kids out of the adult areas, which I can't say the same for other cruise lines I've been on. The entertainment and atmosphere is family oriented (though sometimes a little risque in the lounges after 10pm) but it can be wearing on those who aren't big Disney fans (I usually see the shows but DW avoids them).

There are various open house times over the course of the cruise, but the best time for adults to see the clubs would be the afternoon of embarkation day. The clubs all have open houses for most of the afternoon. You can check in the Navigator to see the exact times.

I can't wait for our adults only cruise. We took our kids last time and they refused to go to Edge and didn't want to do anything unless I went with them. Family time is great but there were tons of grown up things I would have loved to do but couldn't because my kids were stuck to me like glue. Disney Cruises are not just for kids and are probably more fun if you leave the kids at home. I know I can't wait to find out.

My wife and I love going on DCL without kids. The adult areas are typically kid free and any that come and looked like they were planning on staying I have seen them asked to leave by cast members. With Remy and Palo you can get away and truly indulge in a nice evening out.

I would highly recommend DCL for an adult only cruise.

Disney cruises are great with and without kids, but definitely different experiences. I'll be sailing on my 8th in August - it'll be my 3rd with kids, so clearly I think you'll enjoy your adults-only trip!

Thanks so much as I hate negative "Nellie's" as my mom calls it. My DH isnt the biggest Disney fan but he's doing it because I AM that big Disney fan and I love the fact it is different than other cruise lines. I told him just because its Disney doesnt mean we cant dress up on the dress up night like on the other cruise ships. I also cant wait to do either the brunch (if its offered on the Magic) at Palo's and or Dinner and not have to worry about taking my child to the kids club this round. Plus we are going to unwind as I work on computers all day and then go home and do more work and this will be so nice to actually unplug from the world for 4 awesome days (now wishing I had booked a longer cruise ;-) )

Both!!

My wife and I (don't have kids yet) went on our first DCL cruise in September and we fell in love. We heard a lot of the "DCL? Just the 2 of you? Really?" but we didn't care. We are almost dreading our RCCL cruise in July (well, ok, no we aren't dreading 10 days in the sun) because we fear that no matter what, we are going to compare everything with DCL and DCL is going to win. Between the food (especially with Palo brunch and Remy dinner), character interactions (RCCL has DreamWorks), entertainment and ship, DCL is tough to beat. Not sure how we will make it through the day without MSDA either. I just wish DCL would cave in, build a ship to do longer cruises out of NYC year round (7 days just aren't long enough, in general, IMO).
