Debt Dumpers - 2015

Hmm... no I just took advantage of the room only discount offered through Disney and that week was the cheapest of the month. Now I'm wondering about this magical travel agency though! :hyper2:

I've never stayed at this resort before and am really looking forward to it!

I just sent you a message!

You go!!

I probably shouldn't be taking vacations, but with 2 housemates paying bills (for the moment at least) I'm able to pay all the bills AND increase what I'm paying on my CC's and mortgage AND still have some left over. I should probably be building my emergency fund, but so far I've been following my 53 week saving challenge plus transferring $10 a month (not much, but better than nothing) to my savings account #1, and $15 a month each to savings accounts #'s 2 and 3.

So, since I have some additional points for my DVC use year starting in June, I'm planning a 5 day get-a-way during our educational association days. Right now, it's just in planning stage as I can't get all 4 nights reserved, but I have 3 of them and waitlisting the 4th night .... so if it comes through, I am taking that as the universes way of telling me I should go. :-)

Another trip that I'm jealous about... What hotel are you wait listed ? Where do you own?

hiiiiii everyone

I was around a few months ago but after my February visit to DW I sort of bailed on the boards (mostly because it bummed me out that I no longer had a DW vacation to plan!). Anyway, I've been chipping away at my CC debt thanks to YNAB and I'm finally ready to dip my toes back in here--so hello!! :)

I'm waitlisted at Animal Kingdom Lodge - Kidani House for a deluxe studio with savanna view. :cool1:

This was really just a last minute unexpected trip. Last week, I got the finalized version of the school calendar for next year, so went to see if there was availability. None of the resorts had full availability, and only a couple had partial, so I just started booking a day at a time and hoping. I just picked AKL because it and Saratoga were the only resorts that had more than 1 day available and I hadn't stayed there yet. Plus, it was the savanna view, couldn't miss that.

I have November 4, 5, and 7 already reserved, just waiting on the 6th to have availability.

I own at Saratoga Springs (150 points). I've stayed there once, and it was nice, but I want to try all the different resorts.

Ok, if I can restrain myself, this can only be good for my credit rating, right?

I signed on to my gas credit card - I get 5 cents off per gallon if I use this credit card plus 1% cash back. So, I charge my gas and then pay it off every week when I get my check from my 2nd job. And I noticed that they had raised my credit limit by $2300. Bear in mind that back in January they raised it by $1000, so in less than 6 months it has increased from $1600 to $4900 and I have NOT requested this increase at all. This card generally has less than $100 charged on it at any given time.

I have no intention of using the extra, and I have been good at keeping this card to just gas, but doesn't this help my credit rating overall as it shows a very low credit usage? And with the extra, it helps bring down my overall credit usage across all my cards? (More available but using same amount = less overall usage?)

Sorry, didn't mean to skip your message. So, :welcome:

Car expenses are annoying!! Mine is getting ready to go back in the shop - something is going on with it - so we will see what they find. I really don't want to have to get a new car - hoping to hold out for at least two more years. Really hate car payments. Is there maybe a small weekend getaway you could plan that would be fairly inexpensive?

To make matters worse right after I posted I found free dining for fall at WDW! We're seriously toying with the idea of not getting a car right away (not just because of wanting to travel) we live in a city with good public transit (San Francisco) so we've been doing better off with out one then we originally thought. We are having to rent a car to go visit family this weekend 4 hours away, so that eats a little into the budget but we only go down there about 3-4 times a year so it's not an all the time expense.

We may try to do disneyland for a long weekend but it adds up quick even when we try to do it on the cheap.

We just got a Disney visa and got a much bigger limit then we thought (we haven't applied for a credit card in 7 or 8 years and have paid off all our existing cc's in that time)we got ours specifically for the points and disney perks since we know we're going on a cruise in a few years. We've been using it for groceries and the like and paying it off immediately. It will be interesting to see what it does to our score.

I apply for the Disney Visa every June when I am starting the final preparations for my summer trip. :crazy2: So far, I keep getting denied.

I would like to do the same thing with it, use it for ongoing expenses and then pay it off every month to build points on it. I did that for several years with my hotel rewards card, and haven't paid for a hotel night since 2009.

I had a reservation w/ them for an AWESOME rate @ YC, but cancelled it when FD came out. If no one has told you yet, google "Magical Travel Agency" and it's the first one on the list. REALLY awesome Labor Day week rates the Deluxe hotels!

Man I wish Disneyland offered Free Dining! ;-) Trying to carefully plan our ADR's this time around as our timeline there is quite tight so we want to make the most of the parks, etc.

So... Another unexpected expense came today. Turned the a/c on and it just blew warm air :headache:. Called and had a tech come out so it cost $250 to fill with freon - there is a leak somewhere but to have them locate it it would be $900 and if it wasn't in that coil then they would have to do the other section for $1200 - so everyone keep pixie dust coming my way because I chose just to do the freon for now. Hoping that maybe it's just a pin hole and will get me through the summer.
Ugh - owning a home is the Pitts!

Ugh... I completely sympathize with your situation. After I moved here, I still owned my house in NC and couldn't sell it because the market crashed. Two weeks after I moved the entire HVAC system died. 5K later.... seriously, home ownership is not all it's cracked up to be! Hopefully yours is a cheaper fix though. If it's just a small leak you can manage it while you save up to replace the system down the road.

I'm so sorry Gracie, that really does suck!! I hope the freon fixes it!

Sending lots of pixie dust your way for an inexpensive bill! Last winter (end of 2013) our heat pump decided to blow a very expensive part. And it was during a cold snap. So our house was FREEZING for days and it cost us $2800 to fix. 12 days before Christmas. Fun times. Oh and our house was built in 2009 :P

Ouch!!! I'm right there with you - my house is 8 years old. I still think that things were built/lasted longer years ago!! Now it seems the life expectancy of appliances and mechanical things only last 10 years - if your lucky!!
I don't know much about a/c units - the tech said there's definitely a leak somewhere but my thought process is doesn't freon eventually run out anyways? I've had the unit for 8 years and never had freon put in it. I think I will have to research the Internet for this. I hate to say this but sometimes you never know if their just trying to sell you something.

Update: I searched the Internet and technically when you run out of freon you do have a leak. However, I'm hoping mine is a teensy tiny leak that will get me by for a while!

Idk how this works really but for 5 years my parents had a leak and every year they filled it with freon and it lasted all summer. Idk what it does to the system by not fixing the leak but it saved them from buying a new unit until we sold our house as is.

This is exactly what I discussed with the tech - this could last a couple years or more - and maybe not, might just last a few months or the summer. But I think this is the best option to choose for now. i definitely don't want the expense of a new unit!!!!

I hear you...but depending how old your unit is, it may be cost efficient to replace it. We kept putting money into our old unit until five years ago when the guy said it's living on borrowed time anyway since heat pumps rarely last past 20 years are it was already that old. Yes, a new unit was $$$, but since then we've been much more efficient in both heating and cooling. One of these days, we'll have to replace our windows too, though, I think, to have it make more of a difference.
