How to stop getting Magic Bands if you already have enough

While at the Poly this past weekend the CM at the front desk said all you need to do is not customize the bands. Some grey ones will be waiting at the desk when you arrive, but if you don't take them they will just be recycled since they haven't been altered. I was glad to hear this since I have all the colors I want and dh only uses the one we cut the straps off so he can put it in his pocket. I have numbered them so I know which are the older ones. They are meant to last about two years.

Well, this isn't true. We just came back from vacation and didn't customize new MB's because we were going to use our other ones. We received the gray one's in the mail anyway!

If you don't want your magic bands you can call member services and ask them to suppress magic bands. Then they won't be sent.

Did you confirm your mailing address but not select colors?

If you don't confirm the address, they are not supposed to ship out MagicBands.

If you do nothing, they still will have gray bands customized with your names at the front desk.

Sure wish they would come up with a way to turn them off.

That would explain it! I think I did confirm address but didn't customize. Good to know thanks

Well we keep getting them, if you do nothing, they're waiting for you at check in! CM told me just turn them in or decline them at check in, they're recycled.

As DisneyRegulars said, CALL. You might have to call the main WDW number and get to Tech Support, but they DO have a way to turn off, or suppress (that's a better word) the MBs for a given reservation.

Only way I know to stop getting bands is to stop making reservations! I swear there is a quota and somebody "wins" if they give more then the next guy/girl!

Last trip I didn't customize and grey was waiting at front desk. Didn't have grey yet so what the heck...took them to the room.

It was a split stay with two res#'s so next resort - more grey. I told them we didn't want/need them.

Next day we came "home" from the parks and wouldn't ya know those things were sitting in our room!

You can run from the bands but you can't hide!

We were asked in March if we wanted our bands at the second part of our split stay when the CM saw we had ours already. She said that they can recycle them if we didn't want them. Of course my daughters did want them since they picked the colors to match their outfits. Gotta love the girls.

And then what if you buy some of the limited edition ones like the ones sold in the parks? Then you've got yet more, lol. I caved and bought the castle one. I'm so ashamed.

some may be under the opinion that if they don't need them, then disney won't need to waste money on them and costs might go down. Others have the opinion that since they are sending them take new ones.

We have every color for each person in the house, (it's a real kicker when they sent my wife and I 2 each for a 2 night split stay), but still opt for the new ones each time. We started a chain of our old magic bands and it stretches more than the floor to the ceiling. A family of four with 2 split stays really racks up the magic bands.

Our bands have become discolored in spots due to the sun....sunscreen....chlorine from the pool, and probably sweat as well. Having a new one to put on at the airport just feels exciting....IDK.....If I ever bought one like the star wars ones, or frozen ones.....then I would probably reuses them.

I'm guessing Disney must have the cost of the magicbands built into each reservation, otherwise they would have programmed into the software a way to tell if you already have them and not send you any more sets within 24 months or something like that. Still it does seem wasteful with all that rubber and electronics being used for one trip and discarded.

I was dealing with a MDE issue on the phone recently and when the CM saw that we had a lot of MBs they asked if I wanted that featured disabled so that we wouldn't keep getting them. I said Yes! He also shared that I could turn the feature back on at any time by calling. We'll see what happens in July when we head back down.

When we renewed our AP they told us we needed to order new magic bands to get the discount/parking card. It would be nice if that could be built into the magic band.

A cast member also told us to go to MDE and mark the old bands as inactive because their software links (?) to all of the active bands. Not sure what that means but I did as they requested. I have a whole box of these things in a closet from AP and each DVC visit. Hate to throw them away. Maybe Disney could create a recycling program for them.

At the parking lots, they can scan your MagicBand to determine if you are entitled to free parking (resort guest or passholder). As for discounts, I don't see them changing anything.

I was told by the front desk that you can bring in old MB and they will recycle them. We might just clean out the unused MBs and bring them down next time. However, they will STILL showup on your MDE account. Those never disappear even if you label them as lost.
