The Dry Heat Expedition (Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Disneyland)--UPDATE 6/12 (KSC and DTD)

Dude - what is with the whole promotion thing? Ugh - I am sorry. Sorry I couldn't fully read everything yesterday because I was posting from work. Shhhhh.....

Nick applied for an internship at Del DOT for this summer but because he's not civil engineering no luck. But the internships do sound cool and Nick still has NO idea what he wants to do so he figured - why not?

Anyone else secretly celebrating May the 4th at work today?

It's just demoralizing to continually be passed over. I thought I had made all the changes I possibly could to get broader experience and show leadership ability, and I had a really good year this last year. And still, it's all for naught. Just very frustrating, that's all. Especially since this is the only way to get a raise nowadays.

Hey, the worst they could do is say no...which they apparently did. I'm sure they give preference to civil engineers, though.

Nice work Glenn! This is a government office, so we're not allowed to have fun, but I'm glad somebody is!

:thumbsup2

Sorry - I can't get that smilie to delete.

How the heck many other engineers do you work with? It sounds like an army of people. I am sure you are awesome at your job and I will keep wishing and sending pixie dust that you end up with the best job ever.

I think we have somewhere in the neighborhood of 2,000 employees. Positions above my level are highly competitive because there aren't many of them. And thanks for the well-wishes!

I was playing catch-up today and see that you are off to celebrate Scotty's birthday! I hope that you guys have a blast!

Thanks Lisa! We had a great time. I'll try and post photos when I get them uploaded. In the meantime, I need to catch up on everyone else's threads!

Hey Mark, making the rounds after hellish couple of weeks (only to get worse I think from now until the end of the term in 4 weeks). June 10 is coming and the DIS better watch out. It may explode with inane drivel by yours truly.

Anyway; was watching the trip unfold in FB; looked super fun for you guys. I love how Julie took the other kids golfing too. :lmao:She's such an awesome mom!! Hi Julie!!

Just starting your trip report!! We are considering a family road trip vacation but hope to work in a Disneyland stop too. Seems like a SW trip would be the best way to go! Hoping, as I read thru your adventures, that it turns out that way!!

P.S. I read Allison's trip report about the SW road trip she and Fran took and it looked amazing!! I am a desert lover though....love red rocks and sun!

Mark, I'm glad we got to e each other last week...if only briefly (sorry...my friend was not feeling well and really wanted to get back to the resort with our early wake-up call the next morning). I hope Scotty's bite got better.

So close! You can make it! And of course, you know by now that any inane drivel will fit right in, at least with this thread.

Scotty and I had a great time...one of these days I'll get the photos uploaded. It was great to get away, even if for just a couple of days. Poor Julie--David was really jealous of our trip and begging for a chance to play golf, any kind of golf. So Julie solved the problem as best she could. She is a fantastic mom, for sure.

:welcome: Misskitty! Thanks for reading along! I hope you don't get too bored and that it helps you with your planning. Please let me know if you have any questions! I hope you have a great trip.

Alison and I compared a lot of notes, for sure! She and Fran were out there a couple of months before us, so we were able to put some of her recommendations to good use.:thumbsup2

Kathy, it was great to see you! I'm sorry my parents seemed to give you the cold shoulder...like I said, they don't seem to "get" online friendships. And Scotty was doing much better later in the day. I'm glad we could say hi!

(I'm also glad you got a photo, because ours turned out blurry.)

I prefer to think of my online friends as "friends I haven't met yet." So you're all just friends.:thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 Well said!!

And actually, history is full of people who had friendships with people living far away. Just look at the books being published with the correspondence of famous people. It used to be called pen friends. Today it is just a different word, same old concept though.
