What is wrong with the Mayor of Baltimore?

Yea in all seriousness you probably won't like what I say since I, gasp, come from a single parent family!

So do half the people in my family, but we don't loot stores or burn senior centers pretending we are "protesting". And my mom would have never condoned this behavior -we would have been beat with a belt even as teenagers. And until people are held accountable for their reprehensible behavior then things will never change. All we have heard are excuses.

They showed this morning of what appeared to be a mom going out looking for her trouble making son. whopping his butt all the way back to the car! I applaud her.We need more moms like her.

Yeah, that was pretty good. Kudos to that mom.

While I do agree with your statement to a point, since when does stating for many is the truth and hard core facts playing the race card? You see, in this world that is the new popular thing to assume that anyone expressing their personal experiences and someone else claim that the race card is being pulled. The fact of the matter is that while these may not be YOUR personal experiences it's a shame that we have now become so desensitized by hearing things that we deem "race card worthy" that we dismiss all accounts. Now, does the race card get pulled, YES and you know what it doesn't get pulled just by people of color either. However, there are still people out there who have become highly skilled at camouflaging their racism that to the average person it's not so obvious but it's still there and that's what the point is.

You can't dismiss everyone's experiences in life simply as waving your hand and calling "race card". I personally wish it was easier than that. You however, haven't walked in their shoes.

I get told all the time if I say the slightest thing about anything that is going on in our country today "well, you voted for Obama so you're to blame". Well, the truth is I DIDN'T vote for Mr President so before thinking that your blanket statement is accurate - you may want to find out just who they (or I) voted or didn't vote for.

I am a good person, a darn good person. Educated - and not on anyone but my parents dime. I have a good job. Law abiding, pay my taxes, raise my kids the "old school way" you know with morals and such and they are a shinning example of what good parenting will turn out. I work hard and I play hard just like you and that's why I'm on this DISNEY site just like you. When you let things fall I'm really no different than you except I have kickass pale blue highlights in my hair!

True! True! True!

And, if I dig really deep inside myself, I know I have judged people too. I do look at white people sometimes and assume certain things about them. Same with large Mexican families in the grocery store. I look at these criminals throwing bricks and starting fires in Baltimore, and I make unkind assumptions. I find my mind wandering. Or even the morbidly obese woman riding around in an ECV. I make automatic, unfair judgments. I think we are all guilty of doing this. And I don't think it will ever end. I think it is being part of the human race.

What I can say is I try to be the best person I can be. If people want to make assumptions about me based on the color of my skin, I can never change that person. Nor can they change me. Hopefully if they are worth it, they will get to know me a bit better and I can prove their assumptions wrong. And, hopefully, if I am worthy, I will be proven wrong when I get to really know someone that I assumed was something else.

That's life. Do your best. Move on.

Oh, and stop throwing bricks, stealing and starting fires.

It's gotten to the point in this country where police officers are afraid to arrest blacks and to use necessary force when their lives or the lives of others are in danger. In our city we have certain lawyers who sue entire police departments and officers who are just trying to do their jobs. If there are bad seeds on the force, we want them weeded out as much as everyone else however the media seems to jump on every incident and inflame entire communities before the facts are even brought forth. And then when an officer is cleared and the truth comes out, nothing is ever retracted and those people's lives are never the same.

This link is of a video of gang members themselves stating what their intention is/was. They state they are trying to stop the violence. And that while they understand the anger, they know that it needs to handled a different way.

I don't condone gang membership, but I have got to admit that what this guy says is a heck of a lot more helpful than anything out of Al Sharpton's mouth.

How should it be interpreted then?

I would really like sunshinehighway to interpret that picture too.

I interpret it as showing three groups coming together to try stop the situation from getting worse. It shows the nation of Islam negotiating a peace (temporarily I'm sure) between these two rival gangs to try and help make a terrible situation better instead of worse.

Seems like the hero of the left doesn't feel he has to pay the taxes we all pay to clean up this mess
"Years of massive corruption by the man known for stirring up race relations and making them worse are finally being exposed. While flying around the country first class, dressed in lavish suits, and most recently stirring the pot in Ferguson, Mo., Al Sharpton has avoided paying millions in taxes - that would have landed the rest of us in prison. The situation is so egregious that even the left-wing New York Times finally wrote a long article last week exposing Sharpton’s tax evasion as well as graft and crime going all the way back to his teenage years.

The Times found there is currently more than $4.5 million in state and federal tax liens against Sharpton and his for-profit businesses. That number apparently doesn’t even include the amount owed by his nonprofit, the National Action Network (NAN). According to the Times, “Mr. Sharpton has regularly sidestepped the sorts of obligations most people see as inevitable, like taxes, rent and other bills.”
(1) That's old news.
(2) What does this have to do with Baltimore?
(3) How does your comment and link to a political blog not violate the "no politics" rule?

Pray forgive me but what does this have to do with the subject at hand? Really no one has brought him up at all. I don't even recall him being requested to help with things here in Baltimore. Things are bad enough without adding this fool to the mix. No, one wants him involved.

How should it be interpreted then?

I personally would not assume that anyone who raises their index finger in the air is making an ISIS symbol. It's a gesture that has existed in American society far longer than ISIS has been in existence. I do not claim to know what those individuals were trying to convey with their raised index finger, but to jump to the conclusion that it can ONLY be solidarity with ISIS, strikes me as a hasty conclusion.

He has told them he is on his way. It was on the news this morning. Requested or not he will be there.

That doesn't change the fact that the linked article has nothing to do with what's going on in Baltimore and was posted on yeah another extremely conservative website.
Posting links to political sites is a pretty quick way to steer this thread into topics that will get it closed.

I was just responding to the poster's comment that no one wants him there. I didn't post the link.
