My mother just booked cbr for free dining about 2 hours ago! She went and checked her email and to print off her confirmation. This is what it says:

Disney quick service dining plan

Has anybody else got their confirmation? She did everything right, including putting the hopper on. Is this disney's mess up?

There is a post about this on the Dining Plan boards where it sounds like a lot of people are having this same problem however it was confirmed to be just a system glitch and she will the regular dining plan

DS wanted to book but he is working. The dates are filling fast. I did not realize that you could do shorter trips I thought it had to be 6 nights. I am glad to hear the update. I have an AP so we might be better off with a room discount anyway.

this is weird...rather than being just another sale, it seems like FD is rapidly becoming a lottery event:rotfl2: whoever gets there first and grabs a package wins! FWIW, this deal doesn't interest me at this point, but I still look b/c I'm curious... seems like by about 8 a.m. the website is either glitchy or all packages for dates I was looking at were gone....either way it has the feel of a lottery run now...

That's exactly what it is which is why I gave up sleep last night. Since I budgeted at rack rate my daughter and I now have an extra $500 for our trip and we have park hoppers which I never would have gotten except that it made financial sense :)

And that's why we purchased DVC. Now I don't have to stalk the discounts...I just have to jump on the DVC booking website 11 months to the day before I want to stay at my home resort just so that I can get the villa and view that I want! :dance3:

Disney has said that they will scale back on discounts. They still offer FD but dates have shrunk, more excluded resorts and now the PH requirement. To non Disney fanatics (not like us here on the DIS), looks like they are still offering a great discount in the Fall but in reality not as good as it used to be.

Priced a trip with FD in November just to see how I am doing for next years family trip and then added 10%. I think I am on track. :-)

Wow! Am I glad that we have APs and stay offsite.

I looked back on our 2009 trip at Pop Century and the total package price was $1,158.06 which included 1 day tickets (that we later upgraded) and the regular dining plan for 2 regular adults and 2 Disney adults for 7 nights. I know that prices have gone up on everything, but that's quite an increase!

Yup our 2010 trip cost us right around 2k for 2 adults 1 child (one infant) (12 days)....this time around is closer to 5K and we've only added paying for two kids.

I just dont get what all the fuss is about for FD...the room rate discount adds up to be the same in most all cases...its just nuts. Do people really think they are getting something for free??

It depends on how many people are in your party. With four adults the free dining can be a bigger savings than a room only discount. It's important to crunch the numbers and figure out what is best for your group. I'm actually contemplating a solo trip in the fall and it wouldn't be worth it for me. I'd rather do the room only discount or I could probably save even more by renting points to stay at a DVC resort in a studio. Still mulling it over...

I'm a little miffed that there wasn't a pre-sale for Visa card-holders, at least not that I was made aware. The only room I can get at this point is a CSR Business King, which would be lovely, but we don't care to pay the extra. As much as it pains me to miss food and wine and free dining, I think I will be giving into my boyfriend's suggestion and we will be visiting his parents and DISNEYLAND instead and hopefully a February trip to visit my parents in Florida.

I crunched numbers and for us it is a better deal. There is no way we could eat with the discount for room only. even if we used Tables in Wonderland. When the phones calm down I have to make sure I can save the PH ticket I needed to buy.

even with them making you pay for Park hoppers? I feel really bad for the people today that didnt get it...looks like there were alot of dissapointed people, hope it works out for you :)

I hope that there will be more openings in a few days. It is very sad when I see the prices of what is available. There is no way DS and I could have taken my youngest DS at those prices. Last year DD dragged herself out of bed at 7am to get WL standard view only to find out later that the pool would be closed. It seemed very fishy to me that this announcment was made just a few days after a PIN for POR was released. It seemed everyone who called was included in the PIN.

There are also those who booked on a whim and then will cancel. I agree FD is not right for everyone.

Free dining can be a really huge savings when your u have multiple children who qualify as "adults" for the dining plan. Four "adults" would be a theoretical savings of $240/night. You aren't going to see a room discount that good.

This is where I find the math gets convoluted.

You see it as a $240/night savings because that's what the dining plans cost. I think the comparison makes more sense when you look at what the family would normally spend on room + tickets + eating the way they prefer and then compare that number to what they have to spend on a *free* dining package for the same dates.

I called today to get the room only discount (we have APs and will switch over to the AP discount when it comes out) - the CM I had kept asking me in a sort of pressuring way - why didn't I want the dining plan. ... she was pushing it hard. Finally stopped when I remembered we have TiW and mentioned it. We haven't gotten the dining plan in years (I think the last time we had it was 2012) - nor have I (until now) ever been pressured to get it.

Five in my family and FD is the better deal.

Our May 2011 trip we had 4 of us (steo daughter was with her dad) and got DELUXE dining on our package. Haven't seen that since.

2012 and 2013 saw mid dining for free with TPV's at Contemp and we grabbed that up (5 ppl both times). Skipped 2014 because of the FP+ debacle and just came back from CBR with a 30% discount on the room.

FD for CBR would be tempting for the MNSSHP in the fall but given the state of FP+ and it's impacts to our normal touring plans, I doubt we'll be back any time soon. Even with FD, we're not risking going back if they close the scamband loophole before then.
