WDW DAS going digital? - YES - started April 30, 2015. See page 6

Ok, I went to HS today to get schooled on this and they said the rollout has been pushed to the 30th. The CM was tight lipped which was really annoying since I know they have been trained and I expected to get it setup today for YDD. But she did say that all the people have to be connected to the DAS through their bands/cards and you can only be connected to 1 DAS at a time. If yiu want to switch people off a DAS you have to go back to GR. And she used both keywords that normally translate to worse for guests....it is an ennhancement that will make it more efficient. LOL

So on thursday I have to take all our bands to GR and the old DAS and link them all to her and her new DAS in the system. Then any linked band can get a time and all will have to scan to go in. BUT she had no answers about my issue of what happens when you change the party other than we had to come back down there and pull people off the DAS in order to put the new people on the DAS. Which pardon me is stupid. If my ILs take her for the day I? They? Will have to go to GR and remove a few people. Then I have to go back another day and put myself back on.

Spoke to DD very briefly (working 52 hours this week) who is at one of the most popular attractions. She grew up with the GAC and DAS for her brother so she is on both sides of the fence. She is now trained on the new process and she said the paper was so much easier and faster. I will be curious to hear how it pans out but from what she said this will take longer to get each return time. It's not a simple scan of the band to get a time. There is inputting to do into the system. She also said that there will be lots of GR visits for any adjustments since we are one of the families that our group changes over the period of a trip as siblings and grands each come for different amounts of time. I usually get the max I will need for any given day of the trip and then as one comes and goes we didn't have to return to GR.

Like I said, very quick conversation but she said she liked the paper much better, so much simpler and to expect it to take longer and she felt more aggravating for both CMs and guests.

This is exactly what the cm I talked to said too, as I posted previously.

I think they are going to need to setup kiosks like there are at Disneyland, as they can handle changing members of the party. Really, they will need to find a way to make this painless and simple, why not just allow them to be linked through MDE up to say 6 and anything over that, you need to go to guest relations to link.

Also, they need to make this a simple scan the band and get a return time assigned or better still request one from the MDE app.

I am at WDW now, and I went to switch yesterday to the new DAS system and was told about the delay. I thought it started Friday, as our new DAS is valid thru April 30 (our last day). Here is my opinion on all of this...... I have used the DL system, which is FAR better than then the one at DL. There, you present all the passes that you need for the next ride. It's fine if the people change based on the ride, as long as all were part of the original group. So, say you set up your DAS person with 5 other people. Then you want to ride ToT, but 2 people do not want to ride that. You just present the passes of the riders to the GR CM to scan it. Yes, if your group changes off the original 6, you would need to sort of start over, which for some people might be a problem, but not most people at WDW who are on vacation. PS at DL, it is super fast, they scan all the passes, name the ride (ANY ride, in EITHER park! LOVELY! ) boom, you are out of there.

Now, the KEY to the DL system, is those GR kiosks. They are GREAT. FANTASTIC. And, I might add, used by all sorts of guests with various questions, too. I am here at WDW, and approaching or worse, going into the attractions to get return times REALLY stinks. And not even because my DAS son gets upset, because we cannot ride right away and he sees the queue. (PS its just me and him, we have no "runner" to get return times). It is crowded, and just pushing thru the crowds is difficult with a WC. At some parks, the attractions are not close together. And it rains a lot here. There are often crowds around the ride CMs, asking questions, arguing about their magic bands, etc. Now we will be causing them more work with this new system? The answer might be to get return times with the DAS, for ANY ride, at the FP+ stations. Yes, there are lines, but I would rather WAIT in those, than backtrack around the parks. My all time favorite, getting a DAS time for Soarin'. Pushing an adult, in a manual WC, up and down those hills, inside and outside the building. Waiting for the elevator in and out. (could not get a FP+ for it).

I would rather they install GR stations, but that is not easy here, with the weather. (so different in DL, where everything is outside). So my second choice would be to use the already set up FP+ locations. Assign one GR CM to each location, if you have to, or just train the FP+ CMs to handle it.

Is anyone at the parks today? Any word if this has gone live yet? I tried to call and ask someone about it yesterday. but the CM I got hadn't even heard about it, much less did she know when it was going too start. If nothing else, we'll be at EPcot on Saturday and I can give more info then!

My biggest issue here is there is nothing cueing them in that you have a disability (the DAS was a nonverbal clue) so you are going to have to tell CMs over and over all day long to get times. **sigh**

Otherwise the system sounds fine to me.

Probably won't be too bad. I always said 'can I snag a return time?' When I added them the card anyway.

I didn't show the card until they were ready to write on it.
I just said something like 'is this the right place to get a DAS Return Time?"
So, it won't be any different for us.

I'm disappointed that we will not be seeing the GR booths at WDW...,like in DL..

We just returned from a week in WDW.... Although we have used the DAS card a few times now. It has not been meeting my 2 daughters needs. Trying to explain to a 3 year old with special needs
why we just walked up to the entrance of a ride and then turned around and walk away from it was no fun..

Now add in all the people pushing and tramplaing my daughter. It was awful most days we went back to room early, cuz she couldn't handle all the people.

Also has anyone read about what happens if you don't return at the return time?

It used to be they would let you return anytime after the written time.
(This was a lifesaver!) if my daughter needed a break I could get a time and take her back to room..
Upon returning to the park later the evening we could show the card (with time) and would be allowed into the FP line

That shouldn't be changing. The way it works will be the same. It's just electronic now.

agree
You can't return before the Return Time, but you can return any time after.
Disney has not given any details, but they have said the process won't change - it will just be electronic.

So, you will also continue to be able to send someone else in your party to get a Return Time rather than bringing the DAS holder all the way to the attraction. I realize that doesn't help people who are traveling alone, but it is very helpful to people traveling in a group.

Reports are that the digital DAS did start today, but I have no details other than that:
- your whole party must be together when requesting DAS so that all the tickets can be linked to the DAS holder's ticket
This has been inconsistent in the reports I've seen. Some have said your whole party - some have said just the person with a disability and the Magicbands of each member of your party.

- DAS Return Times are still obtained directly at attractions

- someone else in the party can still go to the attraction for the DAS holder to obtain a Return Time. The CM will ask which people in the group are planning to ride and authorize DAS Return for those guests

- when the Return Time comes, the group will return to Fastpass Return and scan their Magicbands.

- the DAS holder scans first and the Fastpass CM will verify that the DAS holder is present and riding

I will add more to this thread as I hear more. Also, I'm asking people to post their WDW DAS digital experiences to this thread, so we can keep the information in one spot.
I will summarize and update here and also on the WDW DAS thread.

With the digital move I am curious, will the information of the disability be permanently linked to the person's profile? As an annual pass holder will I have to go to GR every time we go or just the first time with the new digital access in pace?

Everything I have read (unofficial) has said it will be authorized for 60 days.

Now, authorized and linked are 2 different things. We've got people listed in our friends and family resort file who came with us in 2010! So, who knows how long it will be linked?

Following I have to say I am just grateful for any assistance

Anyone else think this is going to make the ride entrance even more crowded??

I like the idea of going Digital, but
walking up with the entire family all scanning their magic bands..cuz you all know not every family will send a runner
Making sure the DAS holders band goes 1st.
CM having to Type in whatever they need to add the DAS time
And the turning around and fighting the crowed to get out.

All this could be settled by added extra kiosk/booths
Going to each attraction entrance TWICE per ride is so not needed.
