paying off room charges daily?

Definitely check with the front desk of your resort as to what time they run the room charges. When we were at AoA in 2013, they would run reports twice a day do check for guests who were close to their charging limits ($500 at AoA). If a guests was over about $450, they would put the charge through right away so that the guest wouldn't find themselves out at the parks with no ability to charge to their rooms. I don't know if every resort runs those reports twice a day, but I had 3 different front desk CMs at AoA tell me that's how AoA was handling it at that time.

This happened to us last year at AoA. They put it through before I got to $500. When I went up with my gift cards they were able to refund it to my CC and apply the gift cards.

the reason i use gift cards is so Mr Mac doesn't see what i am paying and buying while on a solo vacation.
this way i avoid the conversations when the cc comes in.
Me too! DH doesn't like Disney World, so it's always just DD and me. Those gift cards help avoid some uncomfortable discussion!

You don't have to pay the charge down daily. Just when you are close to your resort's limit.

I use Gift Cards because I am more comfortable doing that then having them run my credit card. I don't use my debit card at the parks, as I want that number out there as little as possible.

your numbers are correct.

what i do is buy disney gift cards with my credit card that gives me points on my purchases.
.
Good idea

Does anyone know if Disney gift cards are able to get 5% off via target red card?
The site says no target gift cards or prepaid cards. IMO a prepaid card is like those visa gift cards but I can see it being any gift card.

I didn't think they ever pre-loaded gift cards onto your account. Have you been able to do that recently?

I had a credit put on my account at WL because they gave a $50 credit per night for the inconvenience of the pool rehab (you just had to ask for it). I was able to use that $150 as my funds for magic bands. At check-out the leftover money would have been put on my debit card, but I used it all (duh) and the rest was deducted from my debit card that I linked to the account. I don't see why they couldn't do this with gift cards in advance as well. :confused3

i have not been to disney yet. Just wondering why everyone would rather pay with the gift cards? I see a lot of mention of gift cards but not much of just paying your daily room charges down with cash/credit or debit? sorry new to all this planning ahead.
SOme people save up gift cards because it's not only a way to save spending money committed solely to the trip, but because you can occasionally get them at a slight discount (by using the target red card and other methods).

We buy gift cards at out local grocery store that offers $0.10 off a gallon of gas for every $50 spent in gift cards. A few times a year they double that to $0.20 off a gallon, and we can usually manage to buy in that period. At $0.20 off a gallon we save $12 in gas (max 30 gallons) for every $100 in gift cards. (If I did my quick math correctly!). Plus the cc points from when we buy at the grocery store. So it's over 12% off everything we spend (room, food, souvenirs) in addition to out TIW and AP discounts. Our upcoming trip we owe something like $5000 on our deluxe room at WL, so we save a lot with the gas points. Our only difficulty is using that many points before they expire.

I'm sure the COULD do it, but that doesn't mean they WILL do it. This question comes up on the boards from time to time, and it seems to be Disney policy not to preload a gift card to a room. Several posters on this thread have mentioned that were unable to do so, and that seems to be the norm.

I think in that situation I would have skipped charging to the room and just used the GC/cash/credit card at the restaurants.

Agreed. For us, charging to the room ends up being something of a pain, and I end up thinking there's just no point. We don't spend more with room charging (not sure how people do spend more) but I just don't generally see the point for us.

WDW used to be able to put giftcards on the room ahead of time. Since MDE, it seems, they can't or won't.

Ok, so what if when you are paying your bill online on the disney website you just overpay? You get to choose the amount to put down toward your trip, so why couldn't you just overpay by $1000 and have that as a credit to your account? Thoughts? Do you think this could be a way around the system?

Love Giant Eagle when they do this! I try to stagger my Disney GC buying over 2 months so the points don't all expire at the same time! It's comical how we figure out which car we are driving where to use our gas credits most efficiently! Of course, I am also buying Amazon GC, restaurant GC, etc, but I find I am buying much less actual food there.

Ok, nevermind. I tried to hypothetically add a higher amount than a package and it kept defaulting back to the full package price. It WOULD work if you paid it in full before having discounts added to the account.

We use Giant Eagle also! I would love to stagger the gift cards out over months, both for the expirations and as a way to not have an entire Disney trip on one months cc bill! But unless we buy way ahead, which I usually don't have it together enough to do, we want to catch the double gas points and buy all at once. In addition they double before Christmas which is a TERRIBLE time to put extra thousands on the cc :D I'm Hoping they double for Mother's Day this week, they did last year.
