Marathon Weekend 2016

Have you looked at Higdon's Dopey plan? Or the Marathon one? With it being so far out you are already doing quite high milege. I'm working off his Novice Supreme Marathon training guide which I'll finish in October then top that off with the last 8 or so weeks of his Dopey Training plan and currently I'm only running Tues 1.5miles Weds 3miles Thurs 1.5miles and then 3miles as my long run on Saturday. Of course all this is only relevant if you're considering Dopey... Which you are not... Or are you?? It's all up in the air now :P

Y'all can place your bets now! I'll contact Vegas for odds. You'll find out the answer on registration day!

Your base should be 25 miles/week if you plan to run a marathon, so you should be working up to that soon as this is on your "to do" list whether you choose a challenge or not. I agree with FFigawi that you should not focus on back to back runs right now, though I don't consider it to be dangerous at all once you have built up your base mileage and maintained that for a few months.

Whatever you choose to do, make sure that you are doing it for you. I am training for the Dopey the same way that I trained for the Goofy, but the training is a lot worse than the races. Be prepared to tough it through some tough runs.

As for which to do - if you are physically prepared for the Goofy, adding a 5k and 10k is not a physical problem at all. The only problem is the sleep deprivation if you are not an early riser.

It's most likely that - with the exception of the full - I'll get up, drive over, run that day's race and then go back to the house and chill in the pool or the hot tub and take it easy. After the full? Oh, I'm going straight into the parks.

But, honestly. I'm not doing Dopey in 2016. Nope. Not at all.

You can still have park time. The walking around is good for your legs, especially after the half. I'd never spend all day there, but we hit one if them every day for a couple of hours. That's one of the reasons we like staying at BW. It's easy to walk to the park, rice some rides, eat some food, and then head back.

Pixie Heart--- it will be an awesome time whenever you decide to do it (but even more "awesomer" if you join us in 2018)."

Oh, Boy!

I promise I’ll think about it before April 28…hahaha!

Though maybe I should stick to the 36K this time. I really don’t think I can manage to prepare myself for the ultimate challenge by the end of the year. Besides, I'll be vacationing alone...and when I finish that Dopey, I want a full cheer squad waiting for me! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

So please count me in at the Dopey 2018, Slogger!

Everyone here is making me regret my decision to not do Dopey thanks a lot. My wife and I have so much planned I decided to just go for Goofy to cut cost. good luck to everyone's training and if you haven't registered yet good luck to get the spots you want

My original plan was Dopey but my wife and I have three trips planned to Disney counting marathon weekend with it ending with a cruise princess weekend. I just had to cut cost.

Has anyone seen what the 2016 merchandise will look like?

2015 There was so much stuff that was bought on the first day of the expo by Ebay'ers it wasn't funny. I could not buy what I wanted when I got there Friday morning. While I was talking with a RunDisney rep about this my daughter was pulling up the EBay sales pages on her phone. Everything was 2 to 4 times the RD price.

I noticed that when I registered that there was a merchandise package for a hat, magnet, and a tumbler. There were no pictures to see if it was something I would like to pick up. It would be nice to buy what you want early before the expo. To cut the Ebay'ers out of the equation. For 2016 I signed up for the full. I will not be getting there until Saturday morning. I do not expect anything to be left by that point.

I know that it would be a nightmare to have everything at packet pickup.

don't get caught up in what others are doing...you need to do whats right for you....as much as I would love to join in the goofy/dopey fun I know I need to conquer the marathon on its own first....you gotta do you!!!

I agree with Neoflynn. do what you are comfortable with. 2015 I was originally going to do the half. I saw what the medal was for the anniversary year of Goofy and said what the heck. Was I completely trained for it. Not really. But I did finished both in the time allowed. I will not do the Dopey until 2018. Plain and simple.

They don't release photos for the preorders, but I bought a tumbler at the princess expo and I use it every day still! And I actually liked the PHM preorder jacket better than the expo option.

This is kind of my philosophy as well. My schedule (and weather) just does not allow me time to properly train for a full. And to be fair, I am not sure I have the drive for that much training. But, I enjoy running and races, so I am instead focusing on getting better and faster for the half and some of the smaller challenges.

Fine.

I'm going to register for Dopey.

Way to go!!!!
I' not ready for this, tough.:rolleyes1 :rotfl:

I'll prepare myself to join Slogger at the 2018 Dopey!

Are you guys getting a WDW resort? Which one do you consider a good option? I was considering PORS but as I'll be alone, it maybe a little too expensive. So I figured it would be ok to stay at the Pop Century.
Any thoughts?

I'm prob going to be in OKW but that's for 4 of us, Pop Century is lovely and you have the added bonus of being able to hop on the AoA bus back after events if it has a shorter queue!

I love Pop Century! I haven't done it for a race yet, but may end up there for this one (my first choice is AoA, but I may switch to Pop if the price is much better). If you're used to luxury hotels, it'll be a culture shock, but it's a good hotel for the price, definitely enough room for one person, and we've had good bus service there (again, not for races, but for the park).
As someone else said ... you can also hop on the AOA bus if it comes first (the two hotels are connected by a bridge and it's very walkable - we took the Pop bus a few times on our last AoA stay), which is always nice.

I would recommend going with a Disney Resort. Especially is you are doing a solo trip. The transportation is super convenient and you will be surrounded by runners, so lots of people to meet. I think the bonus of an off site stay is the savings/nicer accommodations you can get. But I think that is better when you are traveling with family or friends, i.e. people to hang with off site. From what I have seen and gotten feedback on Pop Century is a good choice. Looks like a fun resort, has busses right to the races and does give you the option to walk over to AOA so more pool, food and travel options. Plus there is a trail that goes around the lake between the two resorts, it does not look long but might be a good option for walking out leg soreness between races. Of course the parks would more the more fun option. Have a great trip!

See, boys and girls, this is the kind of thing that happens during drunk texting. ;)

You won't be disappointed, and you'll have lots of people here to support you along the way in your training and on race day. :thumbsup2

I wasn't even drunk! But yes, I should definitely serve as a cautionary tale.

I'm going to go with the Higdon plan, but I'd like to invert the days so my long runs are done during the week, not the weekend. I don't work so I have plenty of time during the week to run and I'd rather not take away large amounts of time from the weekends when my husband isn't working.

Thoughts on that?
