Second guessing myself...

I'm currently booked on the Wonder for 2/17-21 - 4-night Bahamas with CC, Nassau, and Key West. That's Presidents' Week, so I know it's a heavily traveled week and flight prices are going to be nutty - plus I have no alternative days for getting back. I REALLY want to go on the Wonder before it gets re-imagined so I can experience a true classic ship. It's also out of Miami, and those prices look to be a little higher (JetBlue doesn't have their rates for that period out yet. And no, even if Southwest did they are NOT an option - they got their second chance with me this weekend and after trapping me at LGA for over 7 hours, not getting into Nashville until 2am, and not offering an apology for anything until almost 11pm (the flight was initially scheduled to leave at 5:25...then weather delays which I can understand, but THEN they broke a screw trying to fix something that had apparently cropped up in Akron but was deemed safe enough to fly, so I'm calling it elective), I have had it with that airline. I wouldn't even take the voucher they finally deigned to offer us because I knew I wouldn't use it and I wouldn't with that nightmare of an "airline" on my worst enemy) I am NEVER going near one of their planes again. But with the airlines that have their rates out, FLL is not much cheaper and is actually more inconvenient on the home end as I'd pretty much have to get to Newark.

I could do the Magic the same week leaving on Sunday (so I'd have Friday and Saturday to play with getting down there) and returning on Thursday (so I'd have a little wiggle room on that end as well) - CC, Nassau, and sea day. I know Orlando and getting around there. But I'm not thrilled with the idea of the Magic. :/ I don't like anything about Cariocas, and I'm really not into the idea of the AquaDunk. Plus I love Key West and would take that over a sea day almost any time.

Aargh! I hate overthinking things!!

WWYD?

The Wonder is a nice ship and we enjoyed sailing it last year on an Alaskan cruise. But, having been on the Dream and the Fantasy once each before, I didn't feel anything special about it being a classic ship. All 3 ships that we have been on are great, but it's the fantastic crew on board that make the ships special. IMHO, you wouldn't have missed out on anyting by waiting to sail the Wonder until it gets re-imagined.

I would forgive Southwest...

Not after this happening twice in a row - massive delays due to their choice and lack of apology until late in the game.

What's that saying? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Not falling for it again.

I would stay with the Wonder booking and keep an eye on JetBlue releasing their schedule. If you get the airfare as soon as it opens, you should be in good shape. I just think that if you have it in mind that you want to see the Wonder before it is re-imagined, do it when you have the opportunity. For anyone else, it may not be a big deal to do it before or after re-imagining. But if it's something you have thought about and you wait, you may always be thinking about what you missed. After we sailed the re-imagined Magic, we looked at getting back to the Wonder before she goes through any re-imagining. We changed our plans and sailed the Wonder last October and was glad we did -- even though we have another opportunity to sail her when we go to Hawaii this fall.

I just went with something totally opposite. Haha! The same Fantasy cruise that I considered in Feb is half the price of the Feb cruise for my break week in April. Plus my favorite cabin was available. Plus I'll get the $200 credit rather than $100. Plus I've never been to Tortola or St. Thomas.

Changed to that one. :)

You know they don't make you ride the AquaDunk LOL

I know. I was just saying that is not a deciding factor.

Moot point now. When I saw the Fantasy itinerary I really wanted for Feb - but not at over $4K - available for about half the price in April (along with my favorite Dream/Fantasy cabin being available), I jumped at it.

Beth, are you using a TA to get the ship credit? I know you mentione you usually like booking on your own to be able to control your reservation. I booked with a TA and didn't get any incentives. :worried:

Over the years, different airlines have taken their turns giving us fits. If you fly enough they'll all upset you eventually. For us, the good on Southwest outweighs The bad, but if we get a better deal with another airline, we'll take it.

No, this is an onboard booking reservation. I'd reshopped the Wonder one - being only 4 nights it was $100 OBC with that. But transferring it to the -night Fantasy it goes up to $200. :)

This is twice in two trips where I have ended up stranded at the airport for 6+ hours because of something they CHOSE to do - once they decided they needed to rearrange equipment, and this time there was some "mechanical" issue that had cropped up in Akron but didn't prevent them flying...then they broke a screw. And the being there over 5 hours before the word "apologize" left anyone's lips? That is NOT showing that they value the customers. I'm done with them.

Plus they apparently don't see NYC as a big enough market to warrant nonstop flights (though they'll fly out of three airports...that makes sense), and I make it a practice to never do connecting flights if there is any way around it. Plus if I have to connect somewhere and the flight is already boarding, I know where the heck I'm sitting on other airlines. Nothing like having an A boarding pass but barely making a connection and ending up with a middle seat. That's happened on there before too. I'll happily pay a little more to select my seat in advance and fly nonstop.

How do u get the credit OBC booking yourself?
Are you on the 4/23/16 sailing?
Thanks
Kerri

I reshopped a cruise while on board the Fantasy in February. It's a perk for rebooking or reshopping a cruise while onboard.

And yep. :)

PanAm and Northwest messed up the worst for me -- maybe that's why they aren't in business any more? United also messed up, but that happens. Meanwhile, NCL-Hawaii is on our permanent boycott list for cruise lines.

Gotcha.... I will be on the same sailing:-)
Thought it was a good deal... For DCL anyway. The wierd school break next year made for a nice surprise on normal school vacation sailings.

Our spring break always goes along with Passover, and it's super late (and not in conjunction with Easter) next year. So we have Good Friday off in March and then Spring Break the last week in April. Mid-Feb to late-April is going to be torture though!! Haha!

As long as it's not a blacked out date, you get 10% off the prevailing rate when you book. If it's 7-nights or longer you only pay a 10% deposit (fewer nights you pay the regular 20% deposit). And you get a $100 OBC for less than 7 nights and $200 OBC on 7 or more nights.

Of course that's how it has been - and how we assume it will be if you know what you want to book. Now they're doing a $200 generic placeholder deposit if you don't know the date you want.

Cruise has to be completed within 24 months of booking.
