Swan & Dolphin Weddings FAQ

Hi everyone! We also will access to the bridal suite prior to our ceremony, so I would be interested in hearing about the space and what is available. I am having my hair and makeup done at my resort, then coming over to the Swan to put on my dress for first look pictures.

Hello first time poster and swan bride December 2015! :yay: Interested in sharing budgets, information, questions, and excitement!! I have put a deposit in and am still considering outside vendors vs. packages for the dolphin, and just began exploring the idea of receptions! Any advice information? Working on a small budget and appreciate any tips!
We booked outside vendors for everything, but prices are pretty comparable for many things. We decided to book our own photographer, at $1200 for 4 hours. This is in the ballpark of what the package runs, but we know who we are working with- which is not the case with the package. With floral we found out he is the same florist that is the 'package vendor' after we booked him- so we may be saving any middle man fees. His prices are comparable to what I have seen in other budgets in the least - $250 for peony & rose bouquet. The major benefit to going the route we choose was that we get to know our vendors, all of whom work with Disney and Swan brides. Some of them, our florist and photographer, offered paid in full discounts of 10% after we signed our contracts at some point. Our harpist was a bit cheaper to book directly- $300.

All in all, there is more work involved with selecting your own vendors. The benefits are that you have the potential to save a bit of cash and develop a more personal relationship with your vendors to customize your wedding. Everyone I've worked with has been extremely helpful and friendly. You have plenty of time to do your research if your so inclined. Going through the floral options, song choices, and ceremony wording, has definitely built excitement throughout our journey! Best wishes!! Whatever you decide (you can also ask them to provide some services off a menu and not the whole package) enjoy this time!!

Saturday we got a chance to look at the rooms used as bridal suites and I'm no longer worried they are very spacious we will have the ibis room.

I had my wedding at the Swan in February 7th. I'm going to write an entire review of my vendors tomorrow. I want to be totally honest, I think it's important as some of my vendors were horrible even though they were such nice people. The vendors we used were Carolynn Allen's, Patricia Lejeune, Just Marry, Swan Catering, Randy Chapman, rafael Diaz and The Caribbean Crew. Some were great, some ok and 1 totally horrific. I will start my review tomorrow afternoon. If you have any questions I'm totally open!

Lindsey gave us the Dove Suite to get ready in February. Don't go into it thinking it's a nice suite. There was a large round folding table with chairs. A rack to hang clothes and a bathroom. There were also a ton I pens and markers for meetings I suppose. The room was terribly ugly. This is the room they use for brides. They didn't give us menus to order any kind of food for my wedding party. It was fine to get ready in.

Has anyone used the Bridal Suite prior to your ceremony at the swan. We were just advised by JM that we have it from 5am the morning of our wedding until 3pm. If you have experience with this is it just a plain room, is it two rooms how big is it? Thank you very much.
That's really nice that they told you in advance. We weren't notified till the day before the wedding. I think this was in part due to the fact that after Diana pushed us off onto Amanda and Jennifer Haskell no one cared about our wedding at all. It was a strange situation, but I'll go into that more in my review.

Amanda is our day of coordinator. Jennifer was our main one. Amanda sent us the room info with the time line for the Wedding. The wedding is this weekend so I hope everything goes smoothly.

I'm sure everything will be perfect. The reason why some of our details went wrong is because I didn't have them until 1 month before my wedding. They weren't vested in us and I'm sure they had so many other brides on their case load already that they had gotten to know really well. Amanda is a very sweet girl by the way.

I'm dying to hear your reviews!!
I want to start, I'm just not sure if I should just write them in here or am I supposed to do it in the Wedding trip review section. I've never done a review here but I would like to. I was on here a lot, usually just lurking! I got so much helpful information. I had mainly positive experiences and some not. I think it's important to have different perspectives when planning a wedding. For instance, my photographer which everyone raves about was horrible. It was my fault for not allowing my dad to help me pick the photographer. My dad is a graphic artist and worked with fashion photographers for many years. In hindsight, this was super ridiculous on my part, now my dad has to correct every photo. All I hear from him is this guy didn't pick his own fstops, ISO's, he had a beautiful day and my pics are horrible. This man is super nice and we even had us for dinner with all of us at Shula's. He owns his own business and I kind of feel terrible writing the review in the first place. At the same time, I want to warn other brides. It's my opinion I suppose. Although everyone agrees the photos are terrible. Don't go for who is cheapest. I wish I would have just paid for a really good photographer, like the Roots. So after that long rant, where should I do my reviews!

You had Randy, right? I'm very surprised and sorry to hear about your experience-most of his reviews are quite positive. We had Randy as well & had a very positive experience. He was very easy to work with-worked well with my shyness for photos, & we were very happy with our photos.

What did you think of Swan Catering? We had them as well for a sit down lunch reception in a Swan ballroom. Food was incredible & we liked working with Lindsay. We did have a few slip ups (they ran out of one of our food choices, despite the list we gave them & went over with them again the day before. Then tried to give fish to a guest who was allergic, because they ran out of the dish he ordered-yikes!), but they fixed it quickly & compensated us for their mistake.

Good to know ahead of time! We had thought of maybe doing some pictures at this site, but time with the photgrapher is precious. Thanks for the heads up!

I hope everything is going going well, and congratulations! No matter what- this is your weekend!

Yes, We had Randy. My dad is going to write him an email explaining different elements of photography, as I'm not well versed in that. Luckily my Dad has been able to salvage some of the shots. Centering us, lightning up some very dark pics, putting my husbands teeth in where they had been blown out. A lot of pics were blurry. I don't think this is just my pics. If I just went through and looked really quick, most of it wouldn't have bothered me. Going through them with a professional is a different story. I invited him to dinner and maybe I shouldn't have. I joked that maybe he was hungry! I hope others will fare better.

As for Lindsey and Swan Catering. We had a welcome dinner on the beach the night before our wedding. It was really beautiful but extremely cold. I wanted to pull it inside but was talked into keeping it outside. My guests left early because it was way to cold. Even the servers were complaining of the cold. They did compensate me for the last hour since we had an open bar and weren't able to enjoy it. Our menu was simple BBQ. Burgers, veggie burgers hotdogs, BBQ chicken and all the sides. They display the food so beautifully. The guests enjoyed the food except for the veggie burgers, they were hard as a rock! I was under the impression that it was grilled food, but it came out in warmers. It was my fault for assuming.

We also did our cocktail hour through Swan Catering and it was amazing. We had an antipasti display, mini pizzas (for the picky eaters), crab cakes and artichoke beignets (Lindsey's suggestion) everyone raved about them. They were that good! We had our ceremony and cocktail hour at crescent terrace and couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Even though our flowers were completely messed up( Just Marry reimbursed us), it was still beautiful.

Knowing what I know now, there are things I would have done differently. Instead of the welcome dinner on the beach I would have had a simple dinner and then a DP. I regret that a lot. I also would have saved up more money for photography, since it really is the most important aspect.

Not surprised about Randy... his style is not as elegant as many other photographers and his work is lackluster in comparison. So sorry you're disappointed. :(

Thank you Mrs. Duck! I think it's important to hear all opinions good and bad. I think if others would have spoken out I would have had more to go on. It seems no one wants to say anything negative and it's an injustice to future brides.

I also wanted to say that we had our Celebration dinner after the cocktail hour at Shula's Steakhouse. Samantha Seubert was just wonderful to work with and she made it so easy. We didn't even have to put any money down, which I was surprised by. Our personalized menus were beautiful and the private rooms were great. Our guests are still talking about dinner and for what we got it was relatively inexpensive. Our apps were a choice between Seared Scallops, chilled maine lobster tail cocktail and collassal shrimp cocktail. Then there was a choice between 2 salads and soup. The mains were 4 different types of steak, lamb, chicken and salmon. We chose 5 different sides that were served family style. Everyone loved this because they got a little of everything. The food is beyond good! It was $100/pp before alcohol. We chose a red and white wine and allowed guests the option of ordering cocktails as well. Only a handful of people were drinkers so the bill was a lot less than I thought it would be.

Hi everyone! Has anyone ever gone through the Disney Group Getaways for group room reservations for a Swan and Dolphin Wedding? We are currently in the process of trying to figure out a room block for our January wedding, and I would appreciate anyone's thoughts and experiences going through Disney for room blocks!

I don't know anything about Disney Group Getaways, but I know that the Swan offered us a room block discount, but it was not as good a deal as the regular discount that the Swan was offering in their current specials. Also, if you or anyone in your party is a teacher (or school support staff), nurse, or military personnel, you get a pretty good discount as well.
