2015 Make-the-Most-of-it March WISH challenge! All are welcome!

Howdy all! Ready to share a WOOHOO??? For today's "woohoo" I'd like you to share a time when you made the BEST CHOICE POSSIBLE even when faced with a difficult situation. Perhaps you opted for the side salad and water rather than mozzarella sticks and a beer. Or maybe you strapped on your sneakers for a long walk instead of taking a nap? Or you had an egg white omelet with a side of fruit instead of the tall stack of blueberry pancakes ?? You deserve a WOOHOO for those great decisions, so share here so that we can "woohoo" along with you!.............P

Woohoo Wednesday:

I think I will take this past Sunday. My sister, my BIL had a fitbit challenge for the weekend. My sister went for a run on Saturday and was leading the challenge (with over 20.000 steps in one day!). I knew that in order to not lose out, I needed to go for my planned run on Sunday. I got dressed, left the house and was shocked to find that it was raining. It was such a fine drizzle that it had not been visible through the window. I went back inside thinking that the weather would improve soon. Checked on the internet and all the weather websites were stating that it was not raining where I was living and no rain was expected. :confused3 I guess the rain was too fine for them to notice it. So, I faced up to the only sensible solution: Go out in the rain. I know that I have the appropriate gear, it was warm enough (upper 40s). I started out well and decided I would try for three rounds through the park. At the end of the second round I stepped into a puddle and had a wet right foot. BUT I kept going, ran 6.5 km and felt great afterwards!:banana:

That is a WONDERFUL story! WOOHOOO!! You definitely deserve that double dancing banana!!

My tip: Don't expect the world (and your weight) change in a day. Change is often slow, so make sure to track it somehow in order to be able to visualise it during your journey.

Welcome back Buffy! We missed you too!

Almost missed this, but that is a great one. When we start losing we want it to be FAST and we want the world to notice and stop offering us doughnuts! But change is slow and the world definitely won't change for you.... so you must change yourself and your little pocket of the world!...............P

Hey all!! Welcome to TIP TUESDAY!!

Tuesday+Tip.jpg

TODAY we are each going to share our FAVORITE weight loss/healthy eating TIP!!

I'll go first to get the ball rolling........

My biggest tip.... PLAN AHEAD!!! This includes have a snack with you when you are out and about, in case the day gets away from you, or having a PLAN of what you will eat during a meal out, or a plan to always have your sneakers with you in case you have time for a walk. PLAN, PLAN, PLAN!! Remember..."If you fail to plan, you plan to fail." ...................P

My tip: look up the calories BEFORE the food goes in your mouth. This may seem obvious, but it's definitely something I need to remember. Yesterday I was craving a shamrock shake, and would have had one if McDonald's machine had been working. I looked it up later. DANG! 530 calories in a SMALL! SOOOO glad I didn't get one! o_O

Woot! Go you! Way to stay committed, even when you had valid excuses. I bet that was an amazing feeling afterwards!:thumbsup2

That's a good one!

I was recently discussing with a friend how difficult it is to learn about nutrition. Because I have been doing it for so long, I kind of know a lot of things and can make very educated guesses. But most people can't. There was a big movement here in Germany from consumer advocates to start something they called "nutrition traffic lights" to have printed on all food items. These were supposed to take into account calories, saturated fat, refined sugars, salt etc. Green would be best for you, yellow not so good and red bad. It totally got shot down by the food lobby who preferred to just print the numbers on the packaging saying that everyone could inform themselves from the numbers. But really, for someone who does not know a lot about nutrition, that food traffic light might have been really helpful and maybe even a motivation to look more into what they are eating.

I can post another WooHoo Wednesday because for the first time in ages I managed to get in a mid week run today! Got home, had a banana and ran for 25 minutes until I started feeling very hungry. And I knew that this would just get worse, so went home (my goal had been to at least go out and run for at least 15 minutes, but no more than 30, so 25 was pretty good).

I also had a brilliant idea for a pizza substitute: I had pizza toast! I have a lovely multi-grain toast at the moment and i just toasted it, put my basic tomato sauce (something my mother invented: tomato paste mixed with low fat sour cream, herbs, salt and pepper) and loads of mushrooms on top and then fresh low fat mozzarella. Three small slices came out to be 11 points and it was like eating pizza!

That does sound like it would have been a good idea.... dang food lobbies! We are constantly being thwarted by them here in the States as well.

Yum yum! I have found that I can make a very yummy and low PPV pizza by toasting up a low carb tortilla or a flat bread and using that for a crust..... it make a crispy very thin crust pizza, but it is just enough when loaded with lots of veggies and some lowfat cheese. I really don't even miss the heavy white carb crusts....................P

For my woo hoo Wednesday I am actually going to go with today. I was subbing in PE and instead of just sitting and reading in between classes I walked around the gym getting about 8,000 step by noon and then when I got off work I still went to the gym and work out for about 50 minutes. I've been trying really hard this week to get more exercise in.

Morning friends! Welcome to THINK-ABOUT-IT THURSDAY!

I'm going to get a bit deep and dramatic on you today and I apologize if it bothers anyone, but it is on my mind. Let's talk a little bit about our MENTAL HEALTH.... because honestly, how much does our physical health matter if we aren't in a good place with our mental health?

CAVEAT: YOU DO NOT NEED TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS PUBLICLY HERE!! I know that for the most part these questions are waaayyy too personal for a public forum, but I want you to THINK about the answers.... be honest with yourself!

What kind of things do you do to keep yourself mentally healthy? Prayer, meditation, support groups? Have you struggled at any time in your life with your mental health? Were you proactive in getting help?? Do you have any mental health issues in your family history? Are you prepared to combat these issues if the symptoms appear in you?

Again, sorry if this hits close to home or is too hard.... but it is SO IMPORTANT to take care of our mental health ALONG WITH our physical health!

I'll BBL to chat!......................P

That's great!! I am finding that my fitbit motivates me more to move around instead of just wait. For example when I wait for the underground train, I walk up and down the station platform. Some people might think I am crazy, but hey, it adds maybe 500 steps to my daily total! So, why not use the time usefully!

Well, have had a lifelong struggle with depression. Basically I just try to do things that make me happy. When I'm really struggling I find just talking to people about things helps, acquaintances I guess and there's the old stand by--Mom. There's something in the pet therapy thing too-always makes me feel better to spend some time with one of the hoodlums.

Exercise always makes me feel better too so there must be something to it lol. Took anti depressants the last 3 years and finally felt like I could get off them about 4 months ago. So far so good but I've been having some down days lately. I think the scale not budging the last few weeks has something to do with it, plus just some worry about my job. I've been waiting or this mgmt. position for years who knew my boss would stick it out to 65...The way things have been the last week though I feel much better about it. I'm a little worried now that the transition to all days will be hard on my workout schedule and was thinking I might have to change gyms but the thought of that makes me so sad. I've been going to the same place about 4 years now-- know all the people there,a nd it's just a great facility. The only problem is the difference between working out days and nights is hugely different as far as being busy goes and the amount of pool usage-- it's all lessons or classes at night with only about an hour before it closes at 9:30 to lap swim or exercise swim. I'll just figure it out though. Lol-if I have a regular schedule maybe I can take a water aerobics class-- that's be fun!
Adjusted my fitbit and myfitnesspal today to a more reduced calorie intake because I think the fitbit is overestimating calories and just being a woman in my late 40's I'm just burning less calories in general. Also did a custom adjust for fat/protein etc. because I think the carbs are high and protein low. We'll see if this helps at all.

Have something planned where you know you'll have to take pictures or you'll want to take pictures. Knowing pictures are in my future motivates me a lot. Also having some kind of cute clothes I can't quite get into now.

So, I faced up to the only sensible solution: Go out in the rain.
Good for you for having proper clothing and doing it.

How I miss thee--shamrock shake.:sad1:

I guess mine will be today--I'll take the keylime pie I got on the markdown rack for $3 to the gym and donate it to their breakroom...

GOOD MORNING and welcome to FUN FRIDAY!!

I do stuff like that on recess duty.... I'm sure the students think I'm a nut, but as long as I am doing my job, who cares!? Glad your FitBit is motivating!

Prime example, the US sugar industry:

I'll watch it later today... thanks for the link!

Always love a good kitty picture!! And they are DEFINITELY good for relaxing (most of the time anyhow!).

SO proud of you for taking such good care of yourself! And WTG on taking the pie to someone else to enjoy!

Morning all! Today's schedule just got a bit crazier.... instead of driving down to DD's school late this afternoon and staying overnight and leaving from there for Boston in the morning, I am leaving here in about an hour to go get her at school and we will come home later today, sleep here, and THEN leave from here for Boston in the morning. Doesn't make a big change to my morning, but definitely changes today's schedule! That's okay though.... the house is clean, the meals for the men are prepped and ready, laundry is all caught up, my suitcase is packed and ready to go, car is gassed up.... so I am prepared!

Scale was not pretty today and I'm pretty sure it is because I haven't been eating enough. I haven't hit my daily target since last Sunday (and I went over a bit that day) and before that I hadn't hit it since the previous Monday. Plus I haven't NOT been getting enough exercise..... a mile here and a few minutes there is not nearly enough. No good excuses for any of it.

Speaking of the scale.... today is the day to send in your weight and percentage toward monthly goal!!

Well, since today's schedule was changed up, I've got to hit the shower and fly along! TTYL...................P

When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you
I've thought about having "When you wish upon a star tattooed on me surrounded by little stars and a shooting star, probably in the same vicinity as Cleo and Figaro.
I'm still down the pound! Going to treat myself to see Chappie tonight, will just go with my son if husband isn't interested. Hey I looked around online and found conversion things to do the percentage but I don't know how to do it in a month time frame--is it different? I am so not smart about stuff like that

Hi everyone! Can I still jump on this? I'm jumping back on the 21 day fix on Monday :D
