Stuffing Our Faces On Land and Sea - A Wedding & Honeymoon at WDW/DCL

Wednesday October 15th

Wednesday morning was a breakfast totally inspired by DisBoards and one I had been looking forward to for months! Originally I had Kona booked in this slot but the more Trail's End pictures I saw and the more I heard the praise for both the food and the price, the more I wanted to try it. I love buffets because I can try so many different options and stuff myself silly, and they always have at least one thing Kevin likes that he can eat on repeat and be equally as happy. When I switched the meal from Kona to Trail's End we changed it from a reservation for just the two of us to a big group breakfast with both sets of parents as well as MOH and her boyfriend.

We all agreed to meet at the MK boat dock by 8:45am, as our reservation was at 9:25am and having no idea how long the boat transportation might take we wanted to leave plenty of time. Kevin and I rode the bus over to MK with his parents, where we met mine who were coming from Saratoga Springs. Unfortunately again, MOH & her boyfriend were running late trying to pack (they were due to check out that day). When we all got to the boat dock a Fort Wilderness boat had just unloaded, so rather than wait for MOH and potentially risk us all being late the 6 of us decided to hop on the boat, after I texted express instructions to MOH on how to get to Ft Wilderness, including pictures of the signage and boat itself (I was sooooo paranoid she would get on the Wilderness Lodge boat!)

The ride was uneventful and the check in process smooth - this was the first time I could ever remembering being at Fort Wilderness (even though my parents have photos of us at Hoop De Doo!)

Our table was called before MOH arrived, but we ended up sitting right outside the door and they arrived only 5 minutes later or so. And now.....FOOD!

We have here (clockwise) bacon, breakfast pizza, potato hash and hash browns (girls loves her potatoes here), Ye Olde Mickey Waffle, pecan cinnamon bun, pulled pork eggs benedict, and scrambled eggs. At the top of the picture you can also see my coffee and "Moonshine Juice" - Kevin took one sip of his Moonshine and was thrilled to realize it was his beloved Boma juice! He could drink a gallon of the stuff.

Now onto the food. Memory serves (helped by pictures) that the bacon was a step above typical Disney bacon (though not as great as the wedding bacon) and the hash browns were AMAZING! I had always been too scared to try eggs benedict but the sweetness from the pulled pork was definitely the dominating flavor here, which I'm not complaining about, I definitely enjoyed that aspect! The pecan cinnamon bun was goooooood but super duper sweet, even for a sweet breakfast nut like me. I liked the breakfast pizza a lot (my mom in particular couldn't stop raving about it) but thought it was slightly behind Crystal Palace's rendition. As for the scrambled eggs, they were standard and boring with so many other exciting things on the plate, and the Mickey waffles were deliciously reliable.

I did go up for a second round of some fruit, donut holes, another cinnamon bun (one was enough, they were so rich) and more Mickey waffles.

The consensus? Everyone LOOOOOVED the breakfast! The food was excellent comfort food and the price impossible to beat. The distance wasn't even a factor, the food was just so worth it! I can't wait to try dinner here next, it looks just as good, and something tells me if I ever were to stay at Ft. Wilderness (I'm dying to try the cabins) I'd end up with at least 2 of each breakfast and dinner there.

I give Trail's End a 9/10. Kevin says an 8/10 for him, because he feels buffets are a bit of a waste on him being that he has a fairly small appetite but said the food was excellent.

I would so kill for that plate of trails end breakfast right now, it looks like absolute disney breakfast perfection. Glad to see all the good reviews are spot on

I just realized today I think I've exhausted my 3-month window for finishing my dining review! Time to get a move on shall we?

After breakfast at Trails End we took the boat back to MK and parted ways with MOH & her boyfriend. The 2 parental sets as well as DH & I ventured into MK for a morning of rides, shows, and Fastpasses, including a WDW first for me - the Enchanted Tiki Room!

After the Tiki Room we staked out a spot in Frontierland to catch Festival of Fantasy for the first time for all 6 of us. To take the edge off my slowly ebbing fullness, I ran across the parade route for one of my all-time favorite Disney snacks:

It's not a Disney trip without a Disney churro. Never! I imagine I feel about churros in Disney how I might feel about Dole Whips if I liked pineapple. This one was no exception, 10/10.

The parade wasn't too bad either! I'm partial to Celebrate a Dream Come True as I worked a couple of shifts as a Parade Audience Control CM during that parade, but this new one's pretty great too.

Post-parade, we did some more rides before heading out to the monorail in time to make our 6:40pm reservation at Ohana! Neither of us had ever been for dinner (and couldn't remember having gone for breakfast as kids) so we were excited to try this love-it-or-hate-it meal.

We checked in on time and, as I knew might happen, were told there'd be a wait. No matter: like any self-respecting, adult-beverage loving honeymooner, we headed to the Tambu Lounge for a pre-dinner beer!

A Sweetwater 420 Extra Pale Ale for Kevin, and a Kona Longboard Island Lager for me! These were beers we'd both had before but both enjoyed. Bonus points for the fact that we got $2.75 off these beers by using our TIW card at the lounge! :woohoo: for discounted beer!

I know this is old news, but this was Poly construction on Oct 15th!

After about half an hour our buzzer went off and we were led to our table, a tiny 2-top next to the shiny path that ran around the center of the restaurant (and, as we later found out, front row seats to the coconut racing). Bread was quickly consumed, and the lettuce wraps soon followed.

Now to reiterate, I have no experience with Ohana's previous menu (which seems to be the basis for much of the current negative opinion on the Internet regarding the place) but I really enjoyed these. Another DISser posted in a review I just read recently (sorry poster, I can't remember you :( ) that PF Changs offers a better lettuce wrap, and I would definitely have to agree, but I did enjoy these and would look forward to them again.

When we sat down we placed our drink orders, and ordered another round of our beers from the bar from our assistant server (I remember for sure it was someone who just took our drink orders, but "assistant server" might not have been how he introduced himself). It turned out that the keg for my Kona was empty, so I ordered something else, nothing special as I can't even remember what it was. Drink server came back a few minutes later WITH my Kona - turns out there is a separate set of taps in the kitchen where they still had some!

Following the lettuce wraps was the skillet of wings and pot stickers. Let me take a moment to wax on these pot stickers - holy CRAP I think I ate about 10. They were HEAVENLY. The only thing that kept me from filling up on them entirely was the knowledge that more food was coming. The chicken wings were delicious as well but paled in comparison to the pot stickers. Yummy yummy yummy!

Next up we have our veggies and noodles - the veggies were basic veggies, nothing special but nothing wrong, and the noodles were delicious if a tad bit bland (but being partial to noodles as a pasta form I don't have much to complain about).

If I remember correctly, we got our steak first, then pork, and then finally shrimp (there was a bit of a shrimp delay). No one wants to see half-eaten pieces of meat on my plate, so I'll spare you those pictures! The meat was good enough but honestly, I just had more pot stickers :thumbsup2

Meanwhile, the coconut race started - as if we could have missed it!

Once the raceway was cleared we were brought dessert, as well as a special honeymoon surprise!

Kevin wanted nothing to do with the dessert (he's not big on desserts outside of your basic cake and ice cream), so I bravely tackled it on my own. Sadly, the celebration cupcake went uneaten. Un-sadly, dessert was a-maz-ing. Man alive what I wouldn't do for some of that now.

Overall we loved the meal and let with happy hearts and stuffed stomachs. I would rate the meal a solid 8/10, on merit of the overall good food as well as the fantastic pot stickers and dessert. Kevin also gives the meal an 8/10, which is pretty huge as it consists of tons of things he ordinarily wouldn't dream of ordering off a menu (lettuce wraps, chicken with bone, pot stickers, non-Italian noodles and bread pudding). He definitely wants to return again. I think the thing that keeps me from being more enthusiastic is the price tag - this is not a cheap meal by any meals. With 2 dinners and 3 beers between us our bill came to $99 after the Tables in Wonderland discount (which was $19.25). We won't be coming back any time in the near future, due to wanting to sample as many places as possible as well as the price/availability factor, but it's definitely on our list for a repeat visit.

Hi Jenn! OMG how have I not seen this before!? Now I need to catch up with your wedding trippie before I read this as I don't want to see any spoilers! Absolutely loving the fact you've done a food review and can't wait to read all about your cruise food, we'll be doing a 4 or 7 day cruise as part of our honeymoon and obviously food is the most important part!! :cool1:

Can't believe this was your first trip to the tiki room! As awesome as it is wouldn't it be even better if they had a tambu outpost there? Beer n tikis a combo made in heaven.

I haven't eaten at ohana in like fifteen years, but the one thing I do remember is those potstickers. They looks just as good as I remember and may just be worth the price of admission.

Good to see you! I am actually further along in this than I am in my wedding day (wedding day takes a looooooooong time to go through!). It feels like I'll never get to the cruise at this point but I'm sure I'll get there eventually!

It was!! I mean, I know my parents at least have pictures of us as kids at the character breakfast there, but as there was no beer it doesn't really count ;)

Oh those pot sticker. Yum McYum indeed!

Ohana has gone up so much it is ridiculous (well all the buffets really). enjoying your report

I'm following along! I've been reading your report of your wedding, too, and really am loving it. I am hoping to be a Disney bride so I'm extra invested. Hoping for an engagement first as that usually helps! :rolleyes1 You were a beautiful bride and the entire day seemed so magical. Congrats to you both!

My DBF is a picky eater and also a lover of beer, so it's nice to see another couple with similar tastes. I'm looking forward to the rest of your reviews.

Joining in!

Congratulations on your wedding. It looked so special and it was lovely that so many of your friends and family were able to join you.

Enjoying your reviews so far, my boyfriend is a picky eater like your DH (fave Epcot QS also Liberty Inn) so it's always fun to read about other sufferers like me!

Congratulations on your wedding! We are going to WDW in 50 days for our honeymoon :lovestruc.

I just read through the whole report and can't wait to read the rest of your trip.
