LOVE or HATE FP+ Anyone's mind been changed ??

Stationary and moving are opposites. The article says the vehicles move - they are therefore not stationary!
Under these circumstances, they don't have to be opposites. Take Star Tours as an example. The "vehicle" moves up, down, left and right, but the riders do not go anywhere. They remain stationary. The leaked blueprints coupled with the space allotted to the new attraction all point to a Soarin' meets Star Tours attraction. Much bigger screen than Star Tours. Perhaps even bigger and more immersive than Soarin'. But you won't be going anywhere. It will be virtual. The blueprints more or less lock this down.

I would consider Stitch to be "stationary".

But it sounds like this is referencing a simulator ride. It seems that would be a better description than calling a "ride" "vehicle" stationary as that adjective typically indicates something is fixed and not moving at all.

If you consider Soarin to have vehicles that move with the action, large video screens (note the plural), 3D action, and a massive theatre, then you should expect the new attraction to be just like Soarin with a different skin....

You mean like this?

A 3D ride with moving vehicles and large video screens in a massive theater

Using a simulator technology like this?

Simulator Structure

Or maybe they'll even put something like this in a massive dark building surrounded by panoramic screens of Pandora where you "fly" with other Avatars. Yeah, that would be cool:

Yep, Soarin was as big of a disappointment I have ever had with a WDW attraction. Totally thought it would hang from the air and move from screen to screen (room to room) very similar to Spidy but in the air instead of the ground, ya know-kinda like Peter Pan when it was built 50 years ago.

If Avatar is just more of that (and I think it is) the disappointment will be similar although less surprising-but Soarin is soo popular (and it is pretty good with a FP+) I guess I can see the reasoning-I know a lot of folks that would hate Spidy, a bit of a whiplash effect.

Picking nits here. But I think of the term more in terms of remaining in place and not changing course as opposed to not moving, as in a statue. If I ask you to remain stationary, I am asking you not to go anywhere. I am not asking you not to move your arms or your head/neck. But we are both right according to the dictionary:

"not moving : staying in one place or position"

Picking nits? Nah--just observing the disconnect over ride description.

And if my chair ended up in the air, that would be freaky. :-)

The blueprint and overlay don't reveal vehicles that move on a track. Looks like 4 rooms with screens where vehicles will move (articulate?) but will remain in place.

Actually that kinda does look pretty good, it may turn out to be cool with an updated video technology-will see.

I can say it will improve AK a lot from what it appears anyway. I can make (suggest) any attraction at WDW or US/IOA better I suppose.

Still rather have Tron somewhere, but it's their money to invest.

So they are non-ambulatory. That is the tend you seek. Picking nits, I guess. But from an engineering perspective, and from a fire/rescue perspective, the vehicle moves. :-)

LOL!

Yeah, my point (in case nobody got it) was that the mechanical structure of the various ride classes are very similar in nature, and as many people like to point out when praising other Disney attractions - it's all about the theming.

Could be similar to any of those motion rides- only with some kind of theming that doesn't make me feel like I'm in moving vehicle inside a movie theatre. I rode all those.....boring. I sure hope Disney's attraction is something a little more creative.

Bingo. Anybody can put a bunch of steel and hydraulics and motors and people sitters/carriers in a large building with video screens and dim the lights.

The question is - will it be "popular" enough to run out of FP's by noon?

There is always debate here as to whether or not FP+ is making SB lines longer, or if it is just a perception that people have.

I've often wondered, are there more people riding with FP+ on a given ride than with FP-?

I don't mean the attractions that never had FP.

I certainly hope that I am wrong, but I suspect that if one is not impressed with Soarin', Star Tours, Body Wars, Simpsons, Minions, etc., one will not be impressed with the Avatar ride. But if one does like those types of rides, then be prepared for the state of the art, best in the business, version of all of that.
