any other tips to get them to show up. hoping they load them in the next few minutes so I can get these booked before taking DD3 to school and head to DD1&2 school to volunteer

I’m up here in Orlando ...waiting to book our December flights...frustrating since for me anyway they usually show up before 6:30 and I can get them booked

My kiddo thought it'd be funny to wake me up at 1 a.m. I haven't been able to go back to sleep, and now I'm waiting for SW to release their flights. I've been holding off on booking Thanksgiving travel. :surfweb:
just the opposite here kids slept in this morning and I had to get up at 530 to be ready by 6 waiting for the flights to release
hope you can take a nap later today

yes normally they are up around 6-630 here it is 706 and nothing. I'm just imagining a little old guy sitting behind a desk at swa falling asleeep and forgetting to hit the button to release the flights

I am quite sure I am going to mess this quoting thing all up but here is my best effort.

You're up at some really odd hours!
I work night shift :)
So to your general question whether you need to decide right now whether you want to fly to Japan on JAL or ANA, you don't. If you're willing to apply for business credit cards with your nascent eBay business, you can start working on cards that can earn you points currencies good towards either JAL or ANA and still maintain your under 5/24 status to stretch out the number of cards you can get from Chase and other issuers.

Chase Ultimate Rewards ("UR") is transfer partners with Virgin Atlantic ("VS"), which is partners with ANA. Like @Haley R mentioned, you'd transfer UR points to VS, then book ANA through VS, and this is an especially good value in that she was able to book roundtrip business class seats on ANA for only 90k UR per person. Again, just look at the signup bonuses ("SUBs") for some of Chase’s cards: the Chase Sapphire Reserve ("CSR") has a 50k UR SUB; the Chase Sapphire Preferred ("CSP") has a 60k UR SUB; the Chase Ink Preferred ("CIP") has an 80k UR SUB; two other Chase business cards, the Chase Ink Cash (“CIC”) and the Chase Ink Unlimited (“CIU”) each have 50k UR SUBs. Just getting a few of these cards should cover your flights for DH and you to Tokyo. Add a few more, and you can transfer the additional UR points to Hyatt and book at one of their many properties.
Wow... that's really quite amazing to think about! You make it sound so easy!!
Chase UR is not transfer partners with American Airlines, which is Oneworld alliance partners with JAL.

If you want to earn miles towards JAL, you could jump onboard the GrAAvy train (a post about this can be found on DISchurners) by signing up for Citi AA business cards, once every ~95 days, like @DisneyMandC is doing. The AA miles you'll earn from these cards can be used to book partner award seats on JAL. The reasons I'd suggest sticking with only business cards with Citi are (1) Citi does not report their business cards to your personal credit reports, so Citi AA biz cards will not add to your */24 count; (2) although Citi does offer AA personal cards, these will show up on your credit report and count against */24, and there are so many Chase UR points on the table for the taking with your 2-3 open slots if you focus on only biz cards from other issuers that you don't want to blow right through your 5/24 status!
OK, that's excellent information... will keep it in mind. Thank you.
Amex Membership Rewards ("MR") is transfer partners with both VS and ANA, so the idea is you could transfer your MR points directly to ANA to book award seats, or you could transfer MR points to VS if that'll save you some MR points whether because Amex is running a bonus transfer to VS or because it will cost fewer points to redeem through VS for ANA seats. Amex also does not report biz cards to your personal credit report, so Amex biz cards won't count against your */24. However, considering the point above about focusing on biz cards from other issuers like Amex, I don't think the Amex MR-earning business cards are a good fit for you right now. The cards with the big points SUBs carry high annual fees ("AF") and high MSRs, and the cards that have low or no AF and reasonable MSRs don't have sizable enough SUBs to get you to where you need to be to redeem with VS/ANA. Since Amex SUBs are generally once per lifetime, per product, you can save their cards for when you're further along and more comfortable in this hobby and use them to work towards future trips to Japan or anywhere else.
Also good to know. I've always shied away from AMEX because of their annual fees, and good to know about the SUB being only one time.
The idea for you, at least in the near term, is to be signing up for new cards and putting all your spend towards their minimum spending requirements ("MSRs") to earn the SUBs. When you've almost met the MSR on one card, get ready to apply for the next card. The pacing of signing up for new cards will be dictated by how much spend you have (don't spend more than you usually would), and by the velocity (how many cards you get in how short of a time period) rules and guidelines that each different card issuer will tolerate and still approve you.
And do you usually recommend leaving all those cards open after you've done the MSR on them?
For Chase, we typically recommend going for the Chase Ink Preferred ("CIP") card because of its big 80k UR SUB. For some idea of what you could do with 80k UR, you can cash it out at 1 cent per point ("cpp") for $800, you can redeem these points through the Chase travel portal with a 1.25x bonus using your new CIP for $1,000 worth in airfare or hotels (or $1,200 worth if you later get the CSR because that has a 1.5x bonus when redeeming through the travel portal), or more particular to your situation transfer the 80k URs and any other URs you'll earn to VS to book ANA award seats. You'll earn 80k UR after spending $5,000 within 3 months of opening the CIP. That $5k in spend will net you at least another 5k UR. If this MSR seems daunting, don't worry -- I'll get to that in a bit. The CIP does have a $95 AF, but you're getting over $800 in value back from the SUB. The CIP used to be such a rock star in that it earned 3x URs for every $1 spent on so many things. However, Chase has nerfed so many of bonus categories that it's almost not worth putting any spend on this card after you've met MSR. So put $5k of spend on this card, get the 80k UR bonus, put the CIP in a sock drawer until you cancel or downgrade it next year, and move on to your next card.

The CIP is a business card, so you'll need to come up with some revenue projections for your nascent eBay business. A lot of our small eBay businesses will report $1,000-$2,000 annual business revenue, and 1 or 2 years in business. Separately, you'd report your total household income under total gross annual income. You'd apply as a "sole proprietor" using your SSN as the Tax ID Number, and most importantly use your legal name First Name (Middle Initial is ok too) Last Name as your business name, and your home address as the business mailing address. Don't get fancy with your business name by making something up like "ten6mom store" -- Chase will check for this business and ask for documentation; whereas, you as a sole proprietor are you, and all the ID you'd need -- if it even comes to that -- is a photo ID, maybe your SSN and a utility bill with your address on it. For an eBay store, you'd probably select as your industry or category, Retail: Books, Hobbies, Music, Sports, General, Nonstore Retail > Other Misc Store Retailers > All Other Misc Retailers -ex Tobacco. As a sole proprietor, you have 1 employee.
Look at me- I'm a sole proprietor! Who knew?
You said you put about $1,500-$2,500/month on your Chase Freedom? You use your Target REDcard for the 5%? Time to thinking about moving that spend over to new cards. Take for example the CIP, where you earn 85k UR from $5k spend. Assuming cash value (which is the lowest valuation for these points), that's $850, minus the $95 AF is $755 back on $5k of spend, or roughly a 15% return, which is better than the 5% cash back you earn on your Chase Freedom in the bonus categories or the 5% you save using your REDcard at Target. Ideally, you don't want to divert spend that earns you a (high) 5x bonus or discount, but if you need that spend to meet an MSR that gets you a bigger return, it's not a bad way to spend money.
Ok this is the kind of thing I need other people to figure out for me. Thank you! Yes, I have used the REDcard (debit) for years but never stopped to think if anything else was a better option.
Again, your pace of signing up for new cards will be dictated by how much spend you have, and by the velocity each card issuer will tolerate and still approve you. For Chase, we recommend waiting 3 months between new applications. For the Citi AA biz GrAAvy train, the wait is ~95 days in between new apps. This means if you have the spend and find yourself finishing the MSR on one of these cards in less than 3 months, you can apply for a new card from the other issuer and keep alternating between Chase and Citi every month and a half or so, since applying for a Chase card shouldn't affect your status with Citi, and applying for a Citi biz card won't affect your */24 status or what you're doing with Chase.

Now, do you have any other bills or expenses that you're currently paying by cash, check, or direct debit that you could possibly put on a credit card? You mentioned a $1,900 tuition bill coming up. Can that go on a credit card? Things like utilities, insurance premiums, rent or mortgage, car payments, day care, student loans can all usually go on a credit card for a small fee. (Again, if you're working on MSRs that earn you hundreds of dollars in rewards per card, and in the range of ~15% or more in cash value back for that spend, a 1-3% fee is tolerable if it helps you hit more MSRs.) Let us know, and we can see about earning you rewards on spend you didn't know you could pay with a credit card!
Well, I just recently (like three months ago) was informed by a friend that I should be able to pay my internet bill with a credit card, so I started doing that, and they make it easy (can be done online through the internet company's website). I am actually not sure whether my mortgage or motorcycle payments can be done with a credit card... it never occurred to me to check! Adding that to the list of the things I need to check on.
After you've finished with your CIP, and possibly a Citi AA biz card, you could go back to Chase and as long as you're under 5/24 all their card are open to you. (I'll note that your long account history from your CF with Chase is a plus and probably makes you a less risky customer in Chase's eyes for new cards, but it's important not to go too hard too fast which is why we suggest waiting about 3 months between new Chase card applications.)

I hope this helps! I'm sure there will be more replies coming to help! Take a moment to digest it all and follow up with any questions or details that might help us help you more.
It has helped tremendously already!!!
When you're ready to apply, we can help walk you through it if you still need it. If and when you do apply for any new cards, and you don't have a "support" link for that particular card, it would really help give back to the community if you first check the DISchurners support links pages to see if you can find an application link for the card you want. It only takes a few seconds, but when you apply through a fellow DISchurner's link, you show that their help, advice, shared experiences, and contributions are appreciated.

Good luck!
Saw that on Reddit... thank you so much!

I am thinking I'll go ahead and start with that CIP.

Better go add that to the spreadsheet I've started or I will never remember what I have done!

You're up at some really odd hours!

Says the person who wrote a 10 page essay at 3:40 am. Yikes, It looks like a lot of people were up late last night. I took some benadryl at 7 pm and conked out soon after. Still feeling terrible this morning. I was up at 3 am, 4 am, 5 am but not coherent. I am barely coherent on a regular day. lol
