First names you dislike

I too am tired of "cute" spellings!

First one that comes to mind... Madison I like the name, I think it is very nice.

However, I have seen "Madisyn", "Madisen"... geez come on, that is just silly.

I am just waiting to see if somebody will name a girl "Ptara".... silent P in front of Tara. (think pterodactyl)

Most unisex names... and the names that are becoming unisex.

As far as "cute" spellings... I wonder if the parents spelled the name "cute" on purpose or if they truly didn't know how it's spelled!
We used a variant spelling of our DS's name; not "cute" but not the way it's spelled most of the time. Dumbest thing we've ever done - nobody ever spells it right and in trying to make the correction (it's spelled with an i instead of an e) they often get some of the other letters wrong. :headache:

I saw maternity photos the other day for a girl names Chairish.

Chairish. :badpc:
Charish is the word I use to describe
All the spellings that you have
That I really despise
You don't know how many times
I've wished that I had told you
You don't know how many times
I've wished that I could scold you
You don't know how many times
I've wished that you could
Pick a name that actually
was not all crazy and unique.

I have a hard time with names like Peyton and Trenton. The parents try so hard to make sure to pronounce the hard T in the middle of the name. You just know as the kid gets older everyone is just going to pronounce it on one big lump. Like Paytn, Trentn but those parents really hold on to pronouncing those two syllables VERY CLEARLY.

As a Brittni, I feel your DS's pain. Growing up, I could never find anything with my name on. Back then, all my friends had those small license plates on their bikes with their names on it. Nope, not me. I've only met a few other Brittnis. I don't mind it now that I'm older. I've seen every misspelling of my name I can imagine :confused3

Don't name your kid these names. Just don't. But cw4d. NOOOOO just don't.

If you have a surname such as Pigg, or Hogg or any other name that could be made into something derogatory for the love of God don't name your girl Ima. Just don't. In fact, Ima should probably be outlawed.
Emma. Just don't. Because if Emma gets just a little overweight, Emmaphant!!! Emmaphant!! Just don't.
Don't spell a name wierd. No. It's not cool. You're not smart or clever. You're not being original. So just don't.
Bertha.... It was once a pretty name. But ever since some golf club company brought out the Big Bertha line...... Just don't. Again if Bertha gets just a little bit plump. BIG BERTHA HAHHAHAHAH!!
Don't try to feminize a boy's name for a girl or masculinize a girls name for a boy. Don't name your girl Alexandria so you can call her Alex. Just don't. Oh and don't name your girl Taylor. Come to think of it don't name your boy that either. Nope. But naming a girl that is the bigger transgression.
No last names of Presidents for girls. Oh such a cute girl. Let's name her Madison. Or not. Just don't.
No names of heads of the KKK or confederate generals. Oh look. Let's name the kid Nathan B Forest Smith. No. Heck no. Just don't. Are you trying to give the kid a complex?
Don't name the kid after a city. Just don't. Oh look. Here comes Peoria Smith. Wait a minute. It's London Jones. Just don't.
Don't name the kid after a car. Just don't.
Don't name the kid after an evil dictator. Adolf. Just don't. Benito. Just don't. Augusto. Just don't. Anastasio Just don't.
No stupid names like Bear Blaze or Moon Unit. Just don't.

My given name is one of these and I totally agree. Please don't feminize a boy's name with an "a".

I'm lucky I'm called "Robin". My mom used to call me "Bobby" and the aunt I was named after was called "Bert". *shudder*

My DD is named after her grandmother "Cecile" but even that was too masculine for me (too close to Cecil+ia). We shortened it to "Celia" ... hoping there were no nasty nicknames. WRONG! She has been known as "CeeCee" and "C" most of her life. I even refer to her as "C" or "Miss C" sometimes. *sigh*

Names I really dislike: (sorry if I offend anyone...I'm almost positive you wouldn't like my first name anyway!)

Declan - I can stand pretty much any boy name except that one.
Kylie or Kaylee or Keeley (or really any variation of, even though I have a beautiful little niece with a similar name!)

Any "SH" name - Shelly, Sherri, Shirley, Sharon, Sheryl, Shelia, Shay, etc
Most of the 50 and 60's ladies names - Linda, Barbara, Deborah, Brenda, Denise, etc.

Not that I don't know some really amazing people with these names! I know many very beloved, wonderful women with these names. I just don't love the sound of the name.

And for semi-full disclosure, my name is one of the names in the lists above, but I won't say which one! I was born in 1976 and trust me, it's rare that I have ever met anyone my own age with my name - anyone with my name is usually 20 years older than me and cranky lol I always wished I was a Jenny, or Kim, or Kristie, or Amanda like all of my friends growing up!

I don't personally care for the girl names that start with "Mc" Or Mac or similar. For example Makayla, McKenna. I'm also not a huge fan of using traditionally boy's names for girls. And I'm also not fond of the current trend of using traditionally surnames as first names.

Yes I'm an old fuddy duddy. My 3 kids have very traditional and classic names that are spelled in the most straightforward way possible lol.

I cringe when I look into the sweet face of a tiny baby, then hear their name is one of those battle ax sounding ones from the 30's or 40's. So sorry those old names are being revived.

Kim isn't bad, but Kimberly is like nails on a chalkboard to me. It's only my mom and dad who call me that. It sounds snobby to me.

Yes they did! Along with Tyler (for girls) and McKenzie. I was the team mom for my oldest DD's U10 soccer team and we had three Tylers, two Taylors, two McKenzies and one Kenzi.

Haha, I coach a sport, too, and last year we had Sophia, Sofia, and Sophie, plus an Abbey, Abby, and Abbie, AND two Gabriella's, a Gabby, an Ella, 1 Emma, and 2 Bella's. And 2 Grace's.

It was weird when the only kids left were Hayley, Molly, and Lucy. It was like they didn't fit in! lol

Yup! My niece is a Payton, and even her brother and parents call her "Payd'en. They completely miss the "T" sound. She is 16.

I just can't stand weird spellings with no basis in anything except the parents wanting to be special and cute. If a kid's name is Melissa, fine, why does it need to be spelled Mahlyssah?

I have an Alliyah on my 5-6 year old team this year.

Really? When you could have just spelled it Alia (a-lee-a) and given the poor kid a chance at people getting her name right at least some of the time!??!!

Stephanie, Tiffany, Jennifer

sorry if that's your name..

My name is Stephanie and I like it perfectly well! The only things I dislike about it are the way everyone instantly shortens it to Steph (which I hate - Stephanie or Stephie thank you very much) and how popular it's become - it seems a lot of Chinese immigrants chose it as their English name so I went from having 1 other Stephanie in my year in primary school to 5 in high school.

I really do not like the names Craig or Greg. I don't know why. Other names I may be annoyed by but I don't hate them.

It's funny, but in Australia Craig does NOT sound like Greg. The vowel is the same as in maid. It ends up sounding like a totally different name!

2 of my dream names for future children are Alana after my grandfather Alan and Taylor (preferably a girl) after my grandmother whose surname was Taylor (she hated her first and middle names and banned her daughters naming grandchildren after her). So I'm afraid I will eventually (hopefully) defy your rules!

Jamie. Can't stand it for some reason.

Hate it when girls are given boys names, or either gender is given a surname as a first name. It's revolting to see a pretty little girl whose name is Kennedy or some other clunker of a surname. My beautiful niece has a name that is mainly a surname, then moved to also being a boys name and now seems unisex. It sounds so heavy and ugly.

Made up names frequently look ridiculous, ditto giving a normal name a "unique" (read: stupid) spelling.

I hate unisex names, and giving a girl a combination/hyphenated male-female name eg Peta-Jane. It's not as if they aren't enough perfectly appropriate strictly female or strictly male names in existence.
