The Running Thread - 2016

ATTQOTD: I am not really a college football fan. I went to Dartmouth College and UNH, and football was not really a huge event. I attended some games at Dartmouth, none at UNH, and don't really follow either team anymore. It is not very easy to follow in whatever it is they call what used to be Division I-AA, it's not like they are big games on tv or anything. :)

I've been MIA for the last few weeks, because life happened. In order of how they happened:

My air went out in my car (covered by warranty, thank goodness)
My grandmother passed away
My son got some virus that had him running his first fever for a week (yes, I have a 4 1/2 yo that's never run a fever)
We drove for a total of 40 hours over 5 days to attend the memorial service (while my son was sick)
My air went out in my house (no warranty, but luckily just a capacitor)

I was able to keep up my running, and my training is going well. We have less than 2 weeks until our trip to WDW

ATQOTD: LSU. Always LSU.
This year I'm struggling with my NFL support. I ❤️ the Saints, and I will always support them first. Dak graduated from the same HS as me, though. The fact that he's getting his chance to shine in his first year in the NFL thanks to Romo being Romo is awesome. I normally hate the Cowboys, but I have to support someone from my hometown.

Question for the Bike folks. I will admit that I know next to nothing about road bikes, so this question will probably make you lol. My current bike has a flat, and I have put off replacing the tube for some time now. So I found my spare tube today, but want to keep it as a back up for later. I pulled the spare to get the numbers off it, and the only thing I am a bit uncertain about is what valve size is needed. The tube provided me with the following "Specialized 700X20/28c Thin" Then what I would imagine is a batch # 120176111230. I see valve sizes from 48mm to 80mm....

Sorry things haven't been going well and especially the passing of your grandmother. Hope things turn around soon for you.

The saints are hot garbage. It's going to be a long year I fear for them. I am not a big NFL fan, so it doesn't bother me all that much. LSU is enough to kill me, so if I had the Saints to add to that I would be in big trouble.
GEAUX TIGERS!

Wow, that's a lot to deal with. I'm sorry about the passing of your Grandmother.

48mm should be all you need. The valve size refers to the length of the valve stem. Unless you've got deep rims like those from Zipp or Mavic, you won't need a long stem.

Michigan State Spartans fan here!!! We love football, absolute favorite time of the year. Both of my sons play football - they are in 7th & 5th grade - super fun to watch. We also always root for the Detroit Lions even though they suck every year. I also find that napping on the couch to the sound of football on the TV is the greatest thing ever, especially after a long run.

QOTD: The time has finally arrived, it's game week for college football fans across the country! Which team will you be cheering for this year?

ATTQOTD: This year and every year, the LSU TIGERS!

Looking for a exciting match up this weekend against Wisconsin. The game is for 2:30 PM CST @ Lambeau Field with the bonus of Gameday airing from site for more hype. I wish I could make the trip, but it was not in the cards this year. Any Wisconsin fans making the trip?
ATTQOTD: Michigan Wolverines! Go Blue! Michigan is where my Dad went to law school, so my sisters and I grew up with that influence. And so they've turned into our favorite team as well, especially since our alma mater doesn't have a football team (all 3 of us went to Marquette).

@LSUlakes I'll be on your side this weekend. I may live in Wisconsin, but I don't root for the Badgers. Ever. We get a lot of heat for it from family and other people around here, but I think that's what makes it worse and harder to root for them.

The Ohio State University (yes, I know people hate the phrasing) and anyone playing Michigan. Michigan and Real Madrid are the worst, in my best Ron Burgundy voice, "It's science."
Oh no, I don't think we can be friends. :p

Aw, sorry to hear that! Sounds like that WDW trip is just what you guys need!

Usually my snarky answer would have been that my fave college football team is Hockey.

For reals, I usually don't get to see my alma-mater Tulane very often as they aren't quite the powerhouses as the school's mentioned above. And I live up north now. So I'm willing to lend my support to a second more visible team this year if anyone wants to adopt me/sway me.

Not really a college football fan at all. I spent my Saturdays watching the EPL instead.

I'm with you on this one. I might occasionally catch an NC State college football game, but I plan my weekends around Arsenal's schedule!

Arsenal? I'm sorry to hear that. I usually do what I can to watch the Red Devils play, which has actually been a treat so far this season compared to the last few, but my now 3 month old will dictate my life much more this season instead of when Manchester United is playing.

ATTQOTD: Iiiiiiiit's GREAT... TO BE.. A FLORIDA GATOR!!! #GatorNation #GoGators!

I loooove football season! College Game Day on ESPN, chips and dip, half-time/3rd quarter naps, beer...aaaaahhh! Gators on Saturdays, Buccaneers on Sundays. Best recovery ever for these back-to-back training weekends. :thumbsup2:cheer2::drinking1

You're in Chicago, you get to cheer for Northwestern! Any school who's fans celebrate the end of a long 30+ game losing streak tears down the goal posts to throw into Lake Michigan are fine in my books!

And all I know about Tulane is that's where one of my least favourite Buffalo Bills QB's of all time played...JP Loserman.

ROLL TIDE!!!!

Had a less than great run yesterday. Was on my long run for the week, when a got attacked by a dog about 45 minutes in. I posted pictures, but left them as thumbnails, because some of you may not want to really see.:crazy2: It could have been so, so much worse--could have been my face or one of the dozens of kids usually out there. At first, after the owner pulled him off of me and was trying to check on me, I thought that just maybe I could finish that last 15 minutes. LOL. Not sure what that says about me. (Keep in mind it's on the underside of my arm, so I couldn't actually SEE the bite, and I now realize I have very little sensation along the actual bite mark, so combined with adrenaline, maybe not totally crazy?) I started to walk home and made it about two houses down to another neighbor and realized I needed help.

Anyway, all is well. The bruising is worse than the wound itself, and it was a neighbor's dog with vaccination records, so no rabies shots, just tetanus and antibiotics. I'm determined to go run again this evening (maybe finish that 60 minutes!), but I'm a little more nervous about it as the day goes on.
