2017 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend

Ok. Started week 4 of the C25K. Did my two 5 minute intervals and didn't try to kill or curse out the mean woman on the phone when she told me "Start running for 5 minutes"! I'm calling that a success ;) (oh yeah, and I ran both of the 5 min intervals too - definitely enjoying the RunDisney playlist on Spotify).

Good job!

While I'm doing my long training runs every other weekend I still utter expletives when I hear what mile I'm on and what my pace is .... I'm happy I've made it to xyz, but when my brain recognizes I gotta go another couple miles back to the car, expletives occur. (At least they're only at myself!)

I checked my calendar and it's almost time to start making Disney dining reservations. Can you believe it!?

Where are some of the places you're eating? Any fun meals planned to carb load?

We're hitting up Blaze pizza at Disney Springs, Trattoria Al Fornio (or however you spell it) at the Boardwalk, and Sanaa for bread service. I think our reservation window opens on Saturday at 3am. So very very very early, but worth it! :rotfl:

It's a short girl's trip, so the plan is Be Our Guest for dinner on Saturday night, Akershus for brunch on Sunday after the half and then DATW.

Starting to think of costume ideas ... there will be four of us! Two of us have run Princess weekend before, one has run Marathon Weekend and Tink, and the fourth is a complete RunDisney newbie (and this will be her first trip to WDW as an adult!).

I just finished couch to 5k! It helped a lot when I changed the coach to the "runicorn" love that guy. He cracks me up :) Switching over to the 5k-10k!

We're planning to do California Grill on Sun night. Not sure we'll do any other ADRs. We'll only be there late Friday to Monday, so we probably won't want to spend too much time in sit down meals

We are staying at Swan/Dolphin, so I definitely have Flying Fish on my list (maybe a celebration dinner after the race), and was debating the Italian options for the night before the race -- Via Napoli, the newish one on Boardwalk, or the one in S/D. At any rate, we've got tons of options nearby to choose from -- almost too many!

We have kids -- they'll be 5y and almost 2y -- and right now the 2y isn't great at the restaurant thing, so sit-down meals might be low on our priority list!

Ah...the 5 minute run interval. This is the point in which I was thinking I would run the 5K, because I had committed to it, and then quit. I officially hated running. Then I found Galloway.

No carb loading for me. That's too much heavy food!

There are so many restaurants I want to try, but am hesitant to do anything big in the days before the race. It's such a tough decision! :worried:

Same here. I never venture too far out until I'm done. Every night before I race, I eat the same thing. I eat the kids' turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy with veggies and cornbread. That's the secret sauce to me. I never have stomach issues. I usually let myself have one treat a day, but nothing too crazy.

Luckily... I think I sort of liked it  I've got Galloway as my back-up plan though if this doesn't work out - and beyond 5k, if/when I get there, I'm DEFINITELY going Galloway.

For those who have run Princess weekend before, what time were you finished with both the 10k and Half? I'm trying to figure out if I should make any type of dining reservations or not :confused3

This year, I was home, showered and back in bed asleep after the 10K by 8 a.m.
For the half, I was able to clean up and make a 10:30 a.m. brunch reservation at California Grill. And that was with having two parking lot drinks and waiting for my cousin to cross the finish line of her first Challenge!

I never do. I've had injuries, illnesses, and just plain exhaustion in the past. I don't like being tied to an ADR. Plus, even if I think I'll be done at a certain time, I never really know for sure. What if I get hurt and have to slow down? What if I have to make an extra bathroom stop or I want to stop for a photo? I want my day to be wide open. But that's just me...someone who has had just about everything go wrong that can go wrong.

What @keahgirl8 said is something to REALLY keep in mind. I made the brunch reservation at Cali Grill and I almost immediately regretted it when I finished the race. My friend who was supposed to meet me got hurt during the race and was in no shape to make it, on top of that I was still SO HOT over 90 minutes after the race that I didn't really want to eat anything. I went and tried to make the best of it, but it really soured my opinion of the Cali brunch ... which I now hear is amazing.

If I had a chance to do it all over again, I would've just stayed at Epcot, walked to France to get a mimosa and then hung out in the WS taking pictures, snacking and drinking and having fun.

Exactly. You never know what could happen, especially if it's your first. I would hate to either pay for a meal I didn't feel like having or pay for skipping out on a reservation.

I make my ADR's in the morning and Im still so confused! I think were doing Olivia's after the 10 plus Im hoping to take the boat back to our resort ( PO ) and for the Half were doing a late Lunch.

For Olivia's, I can't imagine that you need to stress about an ADR there right away, but others might have opinions.

Are you planning to go from Epcot parking lot to OKW and THEN back to PO after the 10K? The race starts no later than 6:10 (last corral start) and will finish no later than 8 a.m. (16:00/mile from the time the last corral starts).

Thanks @Keels and @keahgirl8 for the insight, I think I'll stick to no dining reservations and see how I feel! This will be my fifth half, but I have never run one quite that early in the morning, so a nap will probably be the best option.

I just booked my Res and feel over booked for us. I booked BOG for celebration dinner after half. I also have lunch booked day we arrive on property but may cancel it. I booked mostly dinners but really feel like I need to book a lunch in there somewhere. My hubs is no help and friend is like whatever I trust you. Her only request was burger place in DTD.

My thoughts: Take a look at your reservations and if something immediately jumps out at you as a reservation just for the sake of having one, then definitely cancel it so someone else might have a shot if it's at a popular place. Hold on to everything else until you get further into training and fall into a routine - you'll know how much/what you like to eat when you get closer to race weekend. Then make decisions on your existing reservations!
