Laissez Le Bon Temps Rouler: Mardi Gras with the Mouse! Feb 2016 TR **NEW 11/25 *NEW TR LINK

Really cute photo!

Once we finally exited the park, we split up again. DD was sleeping in the carrier and I didn’t want to wake her up by taking her out to put her in the car, so I decided to take the bus. DS wanted to ride the bus too, so he came with me while DH got the car and moved it to the TTC. DS was super excited to get a ride on a Disney bus!

So nice to have the option of taking the bus and keeping DD asleep

Stitch’s Great Escape! Boy, am I disappointed I missed this one. Lol

So what did they think? I haven't taken Aria on it mainly just because how awful I remember it being, although I haven't actually done it in like 10 years.

I just can't say enough how much I LOVE this parade! I think at first DH was a little disappointed at being so close up to the floats and not being able to get full length pictures of the floats, but after seeing it several times that way and having lots and lots of pictures, I have to say I really loved these. So many details I haven't even noticed in person before! It gave a really different and interesting perspective. I love how these photos came out!

Oh I loved the close up pics!

Once the parade had ended, we made our way over to Adventureland to use our Pirates FP+. When we walked up and saw the enormous standby line, we were happy to have that FP. However, I still hate the fact that they added FP to a ride like this that used to have perfectly manageable wait times before it was added.

Agreed. IASW and others have that same issue.

DS was really enjoying it, but unfortunately, we didn’t get too far into the game because the second station just wouldn’t work. We thought maybe it was just us, but another family trying to play was having the same issues. We even went back to the kiosk and a CM came over and tried to fix it, but she ended up making the effect happen manually. When we tried to go to the next station, it wouldn’t work because we hadn’t actually done the previous one. So we gave up on that.

That's too bad! Something else we haven't done

FINALLY we get there, and get inside, not having missed much of the show, but DD still needs to eat. I made a comment as such, planning to feed her under the cover at the table, and Jessica pointed out there was a bathroom just outside. At that point, I was so upset and annoyed by the whole thing that I just stormed off without saying anything else and sat outside to feed her, fuming that I was paying all this money and missing everything because they thought I should be feeding her in the bathroom. I am totally sure now looking back on it that I was just overreacting and taking her meaning the wrong way. She probably thought I would be too uncomfortable to feed DD at the table.

Ugh what a mess, getting to HDD and all that! I'd have been so upset.

Too cute!

It was a wonderful show!! It was definitely a lot of fun for us to all do as a group too. We had thrown out a few different options of what meals would be fun, and had considered a character meal, but I think this was the better choice. I think with character meals where everyone is having to get up and down from the table for pictures and stuff, it wouldn’t have been as much time for all of us to hang out, laugh, and have fun.

Definitely want to do this as a group too, next time we all take one together or maybe just next trip with Andrew (he loves HDD).

We leave Thursday the 21st and will drive most of the way after dropping the kids off with my mom. I'll be working in the morning, so we are hoping to hit the road from my parents' house by about 5:30 or so. We booked a room to stop overnight.

Your trip sounds AMAZING!! Have a blast!!!

Cool to do the DIS stuff. I've sort of dropped off from the podcast since they went to video - I just don't have time to watch podcasts, and IDK I have been getting into some other podcasts that take up my time, but Pete and the crew are a great friendly bunch, so I'm sure it will be a lot of fun.

Wow! That should be an awesome quick trip. Have fun! I'm sure the kids will be fine for a few days.

Well, I meant to get to these replies before we left, but it was just too crazy. So now we are back, and I can say it was indeed an awesome trip and the kids were totally fine in the capable hands of Nonni & Poppi.

What an action packed weekend! We'll be heading that way on Saturday but only as far as Orange Beach. Have a great adult time.

It ended up being a really great trip, and although I missed the kids a lot, it was nice to get away just DH and I. I hope you also had a fun time at the beach!

Such an exciting trip you have planned! It will be nice for you and DH to have some alone time and it sounds like you're trying some yummy new restaurants! AND you get to stay at the Contemporary which is awesome!

It was great to have some time to enjoy the parks and beyond just the two of us. We haven't been to WDW alone since before DS was born! The Contemporary was AMAZING, but it did make me miss DS even more because I know how much he would have loved to stay in the hotel that the monorail goes right through!

Sounds like great plans - and with being just the two of you should make it easier to move from place to plan compared to if you had the kids as well

What time do you think you will be picking up your credentials on Friday? That is probably when we will do that as well after we have lunch at Morimoto's - so probably be there like 2:30 or 3 - maybe we could see you then

I didn't sign up for the connecting with Walt one because I couldn't stay the whole time and didn't want to take the spot of someone who could, but I am hoping to stop by right at the start to say hi to Micheal and Craig and see if they will sign a Connecting with Walt poster I had made - maybe will see you then as well.

I know for regional events the tapings have taken ~1 hour but not sure about this one

It was great to finally meet you at the Connecting with Walt meet!! So glad you saw us and came over to say hi, but bummer you couldn't join in on the meet and hang out longer!

Fellow New Orleanian(well LaPlace actually) here enjoying your report. I love Disney, but I also love Mardi Gras, so never made the trip during that time yet. I am sure we will in the near future though, when our daughter starts school in the next couple of years. I've heard it's a good time to go and your trip looks to confirm that. I love seeing the repping of the Saints with the hats and shirts too. Who Dat!!

It's a small world after all... :rotfl:

It's tough for my DH also because he is a huge Mardi Gras fan, so I know he hates missing it even if it is for Disney World. But as the kids get older and it's harder to take them out of school for vacation, I know we will have to go then more often. It was busy, but definitely fun to feel like everyone you see in the parks is a neighbor of sorts!

 I think I'm still reading your last trip report. Wow, 6 trips in one year! That's awesome. I'll be heading to Disney this year for Mardi Gras. It really is my favorite time to go, as the weather is usually great and the crowds aren't bad like in the summer. Joining in and looking forward to reading along.

We'll be there for MG as well. 2/2-3/5 but the first few days will be at Universal.

I'm a little late but glad I found your report. I have to say the tittle really caught my eye. I used it for one of our Mardi Gras Trips. We're in Baton Rouge, so not too far from you. I know what you mean about cold in Disney. We've had a few Mardi Gras trips but the coldest was in 2010 right after the Saints won the Super Bowl. We were bundled up for most of the trip. It didn't make for very attractive pictures.

Your kids are adorable. They really look like they're enjoying Disney. I love big family trips to Disney and sharing the magic with loved ones. Your pictures are fabulous. I love seeing all the details of not only the parade but everything else too. I scrapbook so pictures are very important to me.

I'm looking forward to more.

I would love to get your take on the Mardi Gras crowd levels. We usually go in Sept/Oct & 2017 will be our first MG trip.

Really cute photo!

Thanks!!

So nice to have the option of taking the bus and keeping DD asleep

It was definitely a better option. I absolutely hate having to wake her up! And DS enjoyed getting to ride the bus anyway, so it worked out well.

So what did they think? I haven't taken Aria on it mainly just because how awful I remember it being, although I haven't actually done it in like 10 years.

I just asked DS and he said, "I did NOT like it!" He thought it was too scary and that Stitch was going to grab his Mickey sorcerer hat. lol

Agreed. IASW and others have that same issue.

Yeah, they really messed up some of those easier to get on rides by adding FP+! Haunted Mansion is another one I can think of.

That's too bad! Something else we haven't done

It seems like it would have been a lot of fun had it actually been working. And it's not as crowded as the Sorcerers of the MK games can get.

Ugh what a mess, getting to HDD and all that! I'd have been so upset.

I had to really calm myself down to enjoy the rest of the night. I was so pissed! And just this weekend, we ended up talking about it with one of the podcasters and I got pissed about it all over again!! lol

Definitely want to do this as a group too, next time we all take one together or maybe just next trip with Andrew (he loves HDD).

It is really fun! I hope it won't be so long before we do it again.

Your trip sounds AMAZING!! Have a blast!!!

It was awesome! I can't wait to start the TR.

I never have time to watch either, so I still just download them on the iTunes store and listen to the audio versions. There's only occasionally times I feel like I'm missing anything by not watching. It was great to see Pete, Kevin & John again, being it was the first time since our Viva Italia trips. And we loved meeting Corey & Julie for the first time. We have always felt like they kind of represented us on the podcast - married with young kids. Plus they are from New Orelans, so we had lots to talk about!

I would love to get your take on the Mardi Gras crowd levels. We usually go in Sept/Oct & 2017 will be our first MG trip.

It definitely seemed more crowded than our usual late October trips. However, we still managed to do quite a bit! And we probably could have done even more if not for the combo of small children that we didn't want to keep out late at night, and the bitterly cold temps most days. With Mardi Gras being a little later in the month, at least the weather will probably be better.

Well we are in the same boat. We have 2 DDs-one 6 & one born 7/7/15-so I think our kids are pretty close in age. And we went 1/22/16-1/31/16. Some days were freezing & others were really pleasant. Hopefully temps will be more mild this trip. But no late nights for us. We're rope drop people.

We are rope droppers too! It seemed like the nighttime stuff was even later than we are used to going in October, so that kind of worked against us as well. I think if you have a good plan, you will be fine. We did a lot of parks on days wouldn't normally pick just because that's what our family was doing since they didn't have park hoppers.

I totally apologize for the gap in updates. I had fully intended to do an update before leaving for our Adults Only weekend trip, but time just got away from me as we had way too much going on leading up to our departure! But we had a great weekend with lots of fun at the DIS Unplugged 10th Anniversary Mega Meet that I can't wait to share in an eventual TR. Hopefully I can soon get caught up on everyone's TRs as well!!

Day 3: Monday February 8th

After a fun night at Hoop de Doo, we were up early the next morning at 7 to get ready and have some breakfast. We were headed to Epcot that morning! It was set to open at 9 am, and we left AKV at 8:30. In almost no time at all, we were parking and heading up towards Spaceship Earth.

But when we arrived they were already letting people in. No worries, though, because we had FP+ for everything that people would normally run to at rope drop, so we were all set. So instead of hurrying off to an attraction, we stopped for some Photopass pictures at the entrance.

The photographer was, let’s say, interesting. He was asking the usual questions to DS… “Are you having a good time?” “Is this your little sister?” etc. But then he told DS he had some advice for him. “Make sure you’re nice to her. Do you know why? One day, when you grow up, you’ll need her help to move an apartment!” Uhhh…not quite where I thought he was going with that, but…thanks?? It gave DH and I a good laugh!

Still not in a rush at all, we saw Pluto out near the entrance with a short line so we went to say good morning to the cutest Disney pup!

A few Photopass versions…

Pluto also loved DD and gave her a sweet puppy kiss!

We walked on to Spaceship Earth first. DS rode with me, and said he was SO EXCITED that we were going to Egypt! No clue where he got that from, but I thought it was hilarious.

After SE, we decided to go meet someone I was VERY excited to meet because we had just missed him on our October trip…Baymax! I’m sad we didn’t get to see him when he was meeting with Hiro at DHS, but I’m glad they moved him to Epcot instead of getting rid of him entirely.

by disneymom1024, on Flickr

We had to wait a minute while Baymax went in to charge his batteries real quick, so DH got some pictures of his meet & greet area while we waited.

Soon enough, Baymax was back and it was our turn to meet him!

He didn’t quite fit through the door, so he had to come out sideways! So freaking cute.

DS decided he was shy all of a sudden…Maybe intimidated by his size?

We quickly coaxed him out from behind DH.

Day 3 Continued: Monday February 8th
First things first…a fist bump!

After meeting Baymax, we headed over to use our Character Spot FP+. We had this booked with my parents, so they met us at the entrance and we all went in together. When we got over there, there was no Goofy, just Mickey & Minnie, so that kind of sucked. DD was being pretty cute in line though!

Up next was the lovely Minnie! I was hoping she would get all excited to see DD dressed up as her, but she didn’t have much reaction at all.

When we came outside, we ran into Dave, Jessica & the kids and stopped to chat for a few minutes about where and when we would be meeting up later for some rides and lunch.

Then it was time to use our next FP+. And it was a fast one!!

UP NEXT: Ready to Ride

I would love to get your take on the Mardi Gras crowd levels. We usually go in Sept/Oct & 2017 will be our first MG trip.
We went for Mardi Gras in 2004, 2010, & 2012. Our first trip in 2004 we arrived at the end of Presidents week. After the people left that traveled for President's week the crowds were better. In 2010 & 2012 we were there at the same time as the Pres week travelers so it was pretty crowded. If you can go when they aren't there it would be better.

Wonderful character pictures. I love your son's BayMax shirt. He was the only character my daughter was willing to stand in line for. I'm trilled they din't get rid of him.

That is funny! I look forward to when Aria is in school and connects things she has seen to things she's learning about.

that's too bad that 1) no goofy and 2) Minnie was a dud with Delilah! :(

Can't wait for you to start the TR for your recent adults only trip! Glad it was a good time!

Such great PP pictures, DD looks absolutely adorable in her outfit! I love that new Epcot PP border- so cute!

Love the silly faces on SE!

Awesome Baymax pics! So glad you all got to finally meet him!

Great pics at Character Spot. That stinks though that Goofy wasn't there, and that Minnie wasn't so enthusiastic.

OMG! That Minnie hat is to die for!

I can't wait to have my son meet Baymax! He LOVES Big Hero 6.

Our last trip was adults only and it was amazing. Hard to leave the kids, but really good for DH and I to get away and have some fun. Enjoy :)

I see lots of pics of DD in a carrier, which is what I did the majority of our last trip as well. I want to wear her again in Feb, but she'll be 19 months & IDK if I can handle it. I will prob try a back pack style carrier.

I will agree with this. It was noticeably more crowded (and expensive) over our last few days of the trip because the President's week crowds were coming in. It would be best to try to avoid overlap between the two.

Wonderful character pictures. I love your son's BayMax shirt. He was the only character my daughter was willing to stand in line for. I'm trilled they din't get rid of him.

Thanks! We got him that shirt right after the movie came out, and I had been waiting and waiting to be able to see Baymax while wearing it, so this was a great moment! I was so so glad they brought him back to Epcot.

So random and strange?!

Really cute!

that's too bad that 1) no goofy and 2) Minnie was a dud with Delilah! :(

I know, right?! I could have thought of SO many other things for him to say!!! :rotfl:

Thanks!

Even just in Pre-K this past school year, I have seen Paxton do that a lot, and it is so heartwarming! I love how he thinks he is just playing all day, but then he starts telling me all about something they were actually learning while playing. He does love the Sistine Chapel part because we have told him how we got to see the real thing, and he wants to go there too someday.

Yeah, the Character Spot was not a highlight, but it was fun for DS and that's what counts.

Can't wait for you to start the TR for your recent adults only trip! Glad it was a good time!

Awesome Baymax pics! So glad you all got to finally meet him!

Great pics at Character Spot. That stinks though that Goofy wasn't there, and that Minnie wasn't so enthusiastic.

I have the February TR almost completely typed up and since the two other trips we have done since were short, hopefully it won't take DH too long to edit the pictures and I can start working on them both! SO many TRs!! lol

We bought that Minnie outfit for her before she was born, so I was really excited for her to finally fit in it and wear it to the parks!

DD's face didn't show up, but DH loves doing the silly faces so that is typical for him now. lol

We were so glad to finally meet Baymax! It seemed like we were always just missing characters at DHS since we missed the opening of the Wreck-It Ralph meet by just a few days, and then missed Baymax and Hiro entirely. I'm so glad they brought back at least Baymax, and now Joy & Sadness! It's a great little area over there now, and the backgrounds are so much better than what they have happening at the Minnie/Mickey/Goofy Character Spot location.

OMG! That Minnie hat is to die for!

I can't wait to have my son meet Baymax! He LOVES Big Hero 6.

Our last trip was adults only and it was amazing. Hard to leave the kids, but really good for DH and I to get away and have some fun. Enjoy :)

Haha thank you! I loved it too!!

Our whole family loves BH6, so it was exciting to finally get to meet him! His size was a little intimidating for DS I think but I'm glad he warmed up.

We had an AMAZING time just the two of us. It was tough at times because there were so many things that we would look at each other and say, "DS would LOVE this." But we also got to do plenty of things we couldn't have done with little ones.

I see lots of pics of DD in a carrier, which is what I did the majority of our last trip as well. I want to wear her again in Feb, but she'll be 19 months & IDK if I can handle it. I will prob try a back pack style carrier.

The last trip we took with her at almost 10 months, she was almost too heavy for the front carrier option, so in October we might have to try the back carry also. She will be 14 months old by then.

Day 3 Continued: Monday February 8th

It was time for our FP+ at Test Track, so we went over there together to get a rider swap, then I took DD over to baby care to eat while everyone else went to ride. While I was in the baby care center playing on my phone, I saw some pictures in MDE of friends of mine from work that were sharing our Memory Maker and realized they were in Epcot too! It was kind of funny because I downloaded one of their cuter photos and texted it to my friend and she was amazed because they had just taken it a few minutes before. She had no idea I’d be able to see them so quick on the app!

Meanwhile, over at Test Track, they were having a blast!
