September 28, 2016, DVC Member Cruise on the Magic!

Yes to 8 am..
Johnny Quest I live in Haddon Township. Glad so many New Jerseyans take advantage of the Disney sailing out of NYC. I LOVE just being a drive away for the ship. I was hoping the Magic would come back. Hope they continue doing this. I just love past the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island and going under the Verrazano Bridge. I get up at 4 am when we reenter the port. Its so peaceful and exciting. My father came to this country through Ellis Island.
Thanks for this info - I have been wondering what time we would need to be up to see the Statue of Liberty on the return trip.

Good morning. first, I want to welcome all the newcomers to our cruise meet! We're happy to have you guys here and look forward to all the planning.

gometros and tinked - appreciate all your help with the NYC parking situation and Halifax input.

It's worth reposting the Manhattan cruise terminal link. If you look at this parking page, they're offering a 25% discount for Norwegian passengers. Whose arm do we have twist to get this for Disney??

We keep debating a precruise stay vs drive to port vs NJ Transit. Work schedules will have the final say. At $40/day to park, we may hop an early am train.
JQ caught something on cable news that Manhattan has a lot of road construction projects happening simultaneously which has been impacting traffic. I'll have to find it.

4 AM? I'm going to try to do it! Would love watching us approaching NY's port.

The Captain made an announcement each time I came in inviting any to join him in getting up at 4 am as we cruise under the Veranzano Bridge. Everything was so peaceful and quiet. It was a nice experience.

Tinked ...do you remember if there were a lot of parking spots available? There are other cruises going out on Saturday and Sunday so I'm a little worried that there may not be enough spaces. What time did you arrive at the port? I'm wondering if we can sit in line early while we are waiting for the parking to open?

Each of the terminals has its own parking area. I'm platinum so I get there early for checkin but don't see why you couldn't park early and wait for your checkin. There are a lot of spaces and everybody isn't driving. I'll try to find my pictures of the parking lot. Yes I even take pictures of parking lots. But it was also next to the museum.

Would love to hear how the weather was for you cruising to Canada in the Fall. I know for the port we need to dress in layers, but how about the ship? I'm already thinking about what to pack...

It was early September. I was too busy to do the pools but as always there were people in them. I layer but don't think I needed anything on deck. It did rain all day when we were in St. John so I imagine it rained in Halifax that day too. I always need a shawl or something in the theaters. As I remember their weather was sunny and beautiful. Peggy's Cove a little windy so needed a jacket.

Thank you for the info.

Just to add. We cruised Labor Day weekend and I remember the last day was a sea day. It was too cool too swim, but my wife and I sat on deck 9 comfortably with jackets.

Is anyone preparing for a more formal night? I'm more casual and I'm not traveling with family, but I do enjoy seeing folks dressed for formal pictures. I also get a kick about of seeing all of the pirates and wenches!

Tritons should be opened from 8:00-9:30 for breakfast.

Yes, thanks for the info! I'm always cold, so will make sure I have a shawl or sweater for the theaters as well!

I think there is a formal night on Saturday (same as Pirate night) - is that correct? Since this is our 1st cruise, I think my DD & I will wear nice dresses but I think DH will still want to be casual! I am thinking holiday card :santa: pic, so as long as he's presentable lol. I would love to hear some of your experiences from prior cruises. DD also got a sparkle in her eye about "dressing up" for Pirates night.

Not this time. We're intending to travel light (funny, since it's not like we have to worry about luggage restrictions on flights). The most we'll pack is cruise casual for dinner.

Tinked ...Thanks so much for your parking info. I appreciate it. We plan on arriving early. Hopefully, we can park and just wait in the cruise terminal until boarding time.

We're tend to be less formal on formal night but don't let that discourage you. There are a lot of cruisers who will be dressing up that night. The atrium is full of families in their formal and semi-formal attire in line for character photos and portrait sessions. Same goes for pirate night plus the dinner and on deck party has a lot of costuming and your daughter will fit right in. You will have a great time no matter what you decide.

With 4 nights of entertainment, I strongly hope DCL presents Tangled. It is normally shown on the Wonder. IMO that show is the best of all DCL ship productions, Aladdin to me is the runner up. My other hope is to hear some Broadway singers putting on a great show.

On my last 2 Member cruises, Maryellen Hooper(?) had her show beginning 10 or later, once The theater was too crowded no seats, another year I was just too exhausted to even try to see her. If she's on this one, I will try harder to see her show.

Any other opinions or hopes for what shows we have?

Still open for participants in Candy Exchange and Breakfast meeting!

I'm hoping for Tangled.

And, I'm hoping one of the DVC Member Cruise special sessions is on the upcoming "Moana" which will be released in November. Wouldn't it be great to see some 'work in progress' type screening or sneak peak?
