The (Foodie)Force is Strong with Us...a Feb/Mar 2016 trip! THE END - NEW 9/13 Disneyland TR link!

@chunkymonkey I wanted to use another word but I'm not sure what's acceptable on the Dis so I left it at "butt". Lol. It's my Dad. If you get a chance to check out my TR, you'll get to read ALL about it! I had planned rope drop for 5 out of 7 park days and we never, not once, made it! My DH is going next trip and the 'rents are staying home, so I should be in good shape. My DH isn't the fondest of early rising but anything that lets us tour with less people is high on his list! :)

Oh awesome I'm following right now! LOL That is so funny!

I haven't ordered yet. DH was thinking about the baguette, but he doesn't really like poached eggs. Me either usually. I normally get fried or poached eggs done hard, but I don't want to bother or waste time for this meal. Otherwise, that baguette did look really good, because I love arugula, cheese, and tomatoes. I think DH will get the Croque Madame. I don't like ham:rolleyes: I sound like a really picky eater:( Anyway, I was thinking of the Feast a la Gaston, because the bacon and sausage sound good. I have had the quiche at lunch, and I wanted something different. The scrambled egg whites sounded too healthy:rotfl:The Croissant Doughnut just sounded like a bridge too far for breakfast:crazy2: Plus, DH doesn't like bananas and would not help me eat it. Our traveling companions are thinking the meat & cheese platter.

Mmm, all choices sound great! I definitely could not do the cronut thing sounded way too sweet for me, plus with all the additional carbs it would have been too one note. The meat n cheese platter sounds yummy too. I might get that next time but the baguette usually speaks to me more.

This will be our first PPO breakfast. Our traveling companions have done it, but it was before the paid Early Magic Mornings. Unfortunately, Disney scheduled one of these on our morning, so we may not get to leave BOG immediately. I know we will at least get a jump for one ride, and I might be able to get some good empty park pics.

Hmm, do you think Early magic mornings is worth it? They give you breakfast too don't they? I heard they were effective but I'm really not an early riser myself. Waking up for rope drop and now these pre park breakfasts are probably the earliest I'd be up...

We went to WDW for the first time as a family the week after DH 40th birthday. He wore his pin most of the trip:)

Cool! That's the way it should be!

Great, I've added Garden Grill to my 'wish list', looking forward to your review of it! Can't remember, have you done Chef de France? DH wants me to book dinner there.

Day 3-

Somehow, I got mixed up on your days and commented out of order!

Hooray on beating DH at TSMM

Launch Bay looks incredible. Your photos and quotes are awesome!!!

I love the title sequence opening there. I did this for a invites for the Star Wars themed BD parties I had for the boys (Long ago, in a galaxy not-so-far away...)

I have not paid nearly enough attention to lightsaber lure in the movies!

Your meet with Chewie was great! I don't do many character meets, but I really want a hug from the wookie!

Great family portrait!!!

I want to meet Jawas, too!

Sci Fi- I just want to comment that the shrimp pasta at Sci Fi remains the worst thing I have eaten at Disney. Not sure what it was, because I absolutely love everything in the dish. It was awhile ago, I think 2008 or 2009, but I stick with burgers or sandwiches there now.

It has been forever since I have seen the Indiana Jones show. The past couple of trips, the boys go there while I do some solo chick stuff- Little Mermaid, Beauty & the Beast

Force choke is the best picture ever!!!

I'll be back to read about the dessert party/fireworks later.

I don't think it's worth it for DH and I. We are good getting one ride in each on Pooh, PP, and 7DMT. It might be nice to have more time and freedom for pics though. We might consider doing it the next trip with DS, because he would love to ride 7DMT over and over and over....:)

Great, I've added Garden Grill to my 'wish list', looking forward to your review of it! Can't remember, have you done Chef de France? DH wants me to book dinner there.

I have done Chefs de France but not for many years. I remember it being pretty standard french fare. I think the baked macaroni was pretty good. The best part was when Ratatouille came out to visit us.

Day 3-

Somehow, I got mixed up on your days and commented out of order!

Haha it happens when there are so many TRs to read!

Hooray on beating DH at TSMM

I know! It's a rare occurrence so definitely cause to celebrate!

Great family portrait!!!

I want to meet Jawas, too!

Launch Bay was really quite awesome for Star Wars fans. We thought the meet n greets were really fun and interactive and the displays were cool to see. The Jawas were funny!

Yes you are right...the pasta was not my favorite thing I ate. It's so odd how they could not get a simple pasta dish correct. But I think I will stick to the basics next time! The fried pickles were good.

It has been forever since I have seen the Indiana Jones show. The past couple of trips, the boys go there while I do some solo chick stuff- Little Mermaid, Beauty & the Beast

I really like the Indiana Jones show, it's just funny and I enjoy the music!

Force choke is the best picture ever!!!

Thanks!

Love the woman in the wookie tshirt and ears!

People had some pretty neat outfits!

I'm not sure it's worth it for DH and I either. I think if we get a PPO breakfast we should be ok. I can barely get up that early for rope drop so I doubt extra magic mornings would be something I'd really want to do.

It was really nice to be on a monorail resort because it makes getting to MK so easy.
We loved being on the monorail this year! I really liked sitting in the lounge and watching it.

There was no line but the walk to the ride is very long as it snakes around a lot.
I think it takes a good 5 - 7 minutes to wind through that whole line!

short line for Tigger, Rabbit and Pooh so I hurried on over!
I didn't know that they had Rabbit there! Jealous.

Hi! I'm so excited to read your TR! I am in deep plans for my 40th Birthday Celebration in June 2017 and am also a full fledged food lover! Off to read. :yay:

The darn crane was really beginning to annoy me. We would have some great pictures if it weren't for the crane, so I decided to PAINSTAKINGLY manually remove the crane in Adobe Lightroom using the clone funcion. I would have used photoshop but my license expired a long time ago when I used to be an actual photographer, and have not used it in years. So Lightroom would have to do for now. It's not the easiest application for this but I think I did a decent job. If you look really closely though you may see where I tried to cover the crane. Just too lazy to do more work on these pictures. I really love how these came out because now I can frame some pictures without the darn crane!
Wow, nice work! :thumbsup2

The PP photographer told us to pose with our hands on top of one another so I knew a magic shot was coming. Imagine my surprised when there was no "magic" in the shot! LOL! Absolutely the most magical shot of all!

:lmao: Sometimes it makes you wonder if the Photopass folks just get bored and start messing with guests. :scratchin

Though it's a bit pricey for quick-service, I feel like BoG was worth it. It borders on table-service since they bring you the food and it's a wonderful atmosphere. Definitely less crowded than lunch or dinner, and the food is great. I like how it comes with some sweet pastries to satisfy my sweet craving in the morning. It was awesome to pre-order because when we left the restaurant it was only 8:50, and we zipped right over to 7DMT and got right on a very short line, so we definitely got to ride it twice that day!
Great to hear about this. We have it planned in December, both for the yummy breakfast and the walk-on 7DMT (which I have never been in the standby queue for, actually). Hope ours works out as well as yours did. :goodvibes

Then we went over to Tomorrowland to ride Space Mountain, also no wait.
This is a fantastic morning!

I got a text from DH who said he was on a short line for Tigger, Rabbit and Pooh so I hurried on over! It was exciting to see all three of them at the same time.
Very cool, I didn't realized that Rabbit met there too!

It's such a treat to be on a monorail resort!

I think it takes a good 5 - 7 minutes to wind through that whole line!

It's crazy long. I guess they expected really long lines but I have yet to experience it that long. Maybe during peak seasons.

I didn't know that they had Rabbit there! Jealous.

I didn't know either! I've never seen Rabbit there, only Pooh and Tigger. I guess we were lucky!

Hi! I'm so excited to read your TR! I am in deep plans for my 40th Birthday Celebration in June 2017 and am also a full fledged food lover! Off to read. :yay:

How awesome! You're going to have an amazing celebration! Thanks for reading!

Wow, nice work! :thumbsup2

Thanks!

I'm sure they get bored sometimes and want to do funny things. LOL

Great to hear about this. We have it planned in December, both for the yummy breakfast and the walk-on 7DMT (which I have never been in the standby queue for, actually). Hope ours works out as well as yours did. :goodvibes

I was amazed at how much we got done in the early hours! Makes us want to do the PP Breakfast each trip!

This is a fantastic morning!

Thanks! It was!

Very cool, I didn't realized that Rabbit met there too!

We had no idea either! Guess we just got lucky!

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer and had a wonderful 4th of July weekend. We went on our first road trip of the summer to Lancaster, PA, which is also known as PA Dutch County, or Amish County. It was a lot of fun, and we ate A LOT, enjoyed the beautiful Amish farmlands, created our own ice cream flavor at the Turkey Hill Experience, and visited a cavern near Hershey. I will probably write about that trip on my blog and I'll post a link here. I've been neglecting my blog for too long!

I've a few other road trips planned this summer and hope to write about them too! Then finally we have Disneyland in September! I am due to make ADRs for that trip tomorrow! I actually have not given it much thought since I am not sure what park hours will be like. I guess I will just wing it when the time comes.

Now, on with the TR!

Day 6 Part 2: A Date with a Dole Whip

We had such a productive morning at MK! We really enjoyed the pre-park breakfast and hope to do it on each trip if it guarantees us multiple rides in a short amount of time. I'm sure it's nothing like Early Morning Magic, but then again, we didn't have to get up THAT early.

Since we had a great morning, it was about time for a treat! I definitely wanted a dole whip float so we headed over to Adventureland.

I ordered a Dole Whip Float and I ended up with the biggest float I have ever seen. It was massive! I wonder if it's because of my birthday button!

We decided to go to Enchanted Tiki Room since we had missed it on our trip last year, but I wanted to finish my Dole Whip first so that I wouldn't be sticky and messy during the show. We sat outside the exit where it was nice and breezy...there was some relaxing Hawaiian music playing in the background. It was such a moment...that I decided that the Dole Whip had to have a moment too.

I present to you...Dole Whip doing the hula!!

HAHAHAHAHA

I know, I'm sorry if you were expecting some sort of olympian feat but I decided before we decimate the Dole Whip that it should have some screen time too because it was so massive!

DH and I shared the Dole Whip and it took us a while because it was so big...but it was sooo good! Then we went to wash our hands before entering the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room...

We decided to head to the Peoplemover again because I can't go to MK and not ride it. On the way, we snapped these PP pics and I also painstakingly removed the crane from the shots after.

Apparently Peoplemoving had incited some hunger in me again, so I got myself a large Mickey-shaped pretzel from the Lunching Pad.

It was good and just what I needed! So now we had a few minutes until we had to meet Anna and Elsa at PFH. I had brought another t-shirt that had Olaf on it so it could be a more themed meet. So I went in the bathroom that was near the Autopia to change. Here's where something really odd happened:

The next free available stall in the women's bathroom was a handicapped one that had it's own sink and everything. There was no one behind me on line so I just went in. When I was finished changing and doing my business I washed my hands in the sink in the stall, left and walked out of the bathroom. Some lady right behind me said something nasty along the lines of "I can't believe she didn't wash her hands after going to the bathroom" (meaning me).

I turned around and said (very nicely), "well my stall was one of those handicapped ones with it's own sink"

And before you know it, before I even finished the word SINK, this lady does a complete 180 mood change. She comes over and said "OMG I'm soooo sorry, I shouldn't be saying things like that. I should keep my mouth shut" She put her arms around my shoulders and hugged them. I was like, er, ok. I laughed it off and told her it was fine, it's not a big deal, and then did my hardest to walk as fast away as possible. Weird, no? She went from being totally nasty to being so friendly in about 30 seconds. Some people...they need to know the facts before accusing someone (in public!) is all I'm going to say.

It was such a weird and random interaction. I didn't dwell on it for the rest of the day, but now when I see one of those handicapped stalls with it's own sink I'm always questioning myself, do I wash my hands twice, once inside and once outside, or just do the sink outside? #deepthoughts

Anyways, we continued on to Fantasyland, where DH decided to try his hand at the sword in the stone. He wasn't a chosen one today and the sword didn't budge.

We arrived at PFH to meet Arrendelle royalty! We got into the FP line and waited about 10 minutes total.

Here's our pictures with Elsa. I told her it was cold a few days ago at MK and did she have anything to do with that. She said she might have been dreaming so sometimes things happen in her sleep and she can't control it. Must be the Snogies.

After PFH we decided what to do for the rest of the day. We had already used our FP+, and since we had such a productive morning at MK, we decided to head over to Epcot, our favorite park ! We'd finish the night off at DHS to watch the Star Wars fireworks again! Sounded like a great plan to me. :thumbsup2

On the way out we took some PP pictures since I was wearing a new t-shirt. I would soon put the t-shirt I was wearing earlier in the day back on...it was just a more comfortable shirt and now that Anna pointed out my gut I felt self conscious and had to keep sucking in during pictures while wearing the Olaf shirt. LOL

Once again I removed the crane in the pictures:

We head on to Epcot for more eats and more fun! Stay tuned...

Such a nice MK day! And yes, that is the biggest Dole Whip ever! One for the record books!

Weirdo woman in the bathroom!

Yum on the pretzel though I can't say I'm not sorry I didn't get to try the cream cheese filled ones. Boo hoo!

Great last MK day. Though it makes me sad to read!

What a great day at MK (weirdo bathroom woman not withstanding - why can't people just MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS?!!!)

That is the biggest dole whip I have ever seen! Looking forward to having one at the end of August (as I'm sure you will too at DL!!)

created our own ice cream flavor at the Turkey Hill Experience,

That is seriously cool!! I would love to do that...only about a 6 hour drive from here lol..probably worth it in my books!

That Dole Whip looked awesome...I still have yet to try that or the float...on the list!!

Anyways, we continued on to Fantasyland, where DH decided to try his hand at the sword in the stone. He wasn't a chosen one today and the sword didn't budge.

My son didn't know you have to be a chosen one for the sword to budge and we tried to tell him but he didn't believe. He tried every day of our trip when he was 11. He reasoned it had to be a different angle when you pull... so he twisted and turned and still nothing of course!!:rotfl2: then on out last day, we were there when they had a chosen little kid try and it came out with no effort. My son's eyes almost fell off their socket!!! instead of thinking this must be staged, he tried harder!!!! This was a must stop for 2 disney trips until he realized it will never come out unless he was chosen... He is 16 now still loves MK and laughs every time we pass by the sword. Will still go to it and give it a pull.... :rotfl:

Such a nice MK day! And yes, that is the biggest Dole Whip ever! One for the record books!

I think it had everything to do with the CM seeing my bday button. My eyes just popped when she handed me the float! I've gotten many Dole Whipe Floats and this was the largest I've seen.

Weirdo woman in the bathroom!

TOTALLY. I just don't understand some people.

Yum on the pretzel though I can't say I'm not sorry I didn't get to try the cream cheese filled ones. Boo hoo!

I like the CC filled ones too, but they are a little sweeter. I didn't want anything sweet at that point, so the Mickey pretzel was good enough, but occasionally I have a craving for the sweet cc pretzel.

Great last MK day. Though it makes me sad to read!

I know...so SAD.

What a great day at MK (weirdo bathroom woman not withstanding - why can't people just MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS?!!!)

I know! I just don't understand some people...

That is the biggest dole whip I have ever seen! Looking forward to having one at the end of August (as I'm sure you will too at DL!!)

Hehe, totally! Although they probably won't be as big!

That is seriously cool!! I would love to do that...only about a 6 hour drive from here lol..probably worth it in my books!

LOL it was a lot of fun. Not sure it's worth 6 hours but if you're definitely in the area it's a fun place especially for kids.

That Dole Whip looked awesome...I still have yet to try that or the float...on the list!!

What you haven't had a Dole Whip before?!? We HAVE to remedy that. LOL
Definitely make it a priority on your next trip!
I hope we all haven't hyped it up and you'll be disappointed. I just really like it because it's pineapple which is one of my favorite fruits. I like tropical fruit like mango, pineapple, and coconut. It's non-dairy so it's refreshing on a hot day, especially on a float but it also is a bit creamy. It's not too sweet which is great too. Perfect snack!

:rotfl:

Hahaha that's really funny! Someone told me that a CM controls it remotely and randomly allows people to pull it out. Never quite seen that before though, but DH thinks he could be that "one" LOL. I guess all boys are determined to pull it out at some point! :)

PTR Update - Plans for Disneyland!

In 60 days we will be at Disneyland!

party:party:

DH and Chunkysis (CS) will be going on this trip so it'll be the 3 of us again! I like going with DH alone because I just feel like we tour at the same pace, but having my sister around just adds a fun dynamic. DH and CS are always bickering and DH likes to tease CS. It's not crazy, just a fun bickering. My family is very close so we see each other all the time, so having CS there doesn't really make her feel like a third wheel. If you've read my cruise TR or my TR from last year you'll know how much CS LOVES characters pictures! She's been planning what she's going to wear and buying new clothes that she'll have the perfect outfit for each character.

We'll be staying at the Grand Californian for 4 nights, and then moving to the Hyatt House down the street for 1 night at the end of the trip. I didn't want to pay for GC for the last night as it is a Friday night and there was a huge jump in price. I also wanted to check out what it's like staying at an off-site location. This trip we are splurging a bit because it's our first officially planned multi-day trip to DLR and want to experience as much as possible. So we'll be doing the WoC dessert party, Frozen pre-show package, and Paint the Night dinner package, and I am also trying to squeeze in a few character meals.

Since today is 60 days out I was able to make my first ADR! I was unsure about this day as it will be labor day (Sept 5) and our arrival day at DLR. From what I understand, it should be pretty crowded as for many it's the last official day of summer vacation. I wasn't planning this to be a park day and was just going to check in to GC, and hang out in Downtown Disney. But I have heard rumors that it is going to be the last day of the Disneyland Forever fireworks and I thought we should see it. So our plans have shifted a bit and now we're not going to a park on our last day and instead going to the park for a half day on our first day. Because of that I have made ADRs for the Paint the Night Parade dinner package at Blue Bayou. I've always wanted to eat there anyways but I know the menu for PTN is limited. It's also pretty pricey at 62 bucks without tax and tip. I will have to think about this.

The other meals/events that I will be booking this week:

Frozen Pre-show - a smallish dessert/snack party with preferred seating for the Frozen at the Hyperion Theater show
World of Color dessert party - I like that this has seats! I want to be comfy for the first time we see WoC!
Minnie's Breakfast at Plaza Inn - a Character breakfast at the Plaza Inn in DL
Storyteller's Cafe character breakfast - this is one of the restaurants in our hotel Grand Californian. I heard you can meet pretty unique characters here.
Ariel's Princess Breakfast - I think this will be a fun "akershus" type meal and my sister can wear her most princess-y outfits. I also have an Ariel dress that I have been wanting to wear for a while.
I also want to try Carthay Circle, Carnation Cafe, and Cafe New Orleans (although too much like Blue Bayou?). I am just not sure when we can fit all of this in, not to mention all the fun quick service meals, snacks, and Dole Whips I want to eat!
I do also want to do the fried chicken meal at Plaza Inn, but that is quick service so we don't need an ADR for that.

The problem I have now is that park hours have not yet been released for our dates. Isn't that annoying? You can make ADRS at 60 days out but you will have no idea about park hours until 45 days out. I may have to re-do them all once park hours are released! I am also not sure if there will be multiple showings of the PTN parade and WoC. Sometimes there can be more than one show but we're going after labor day so I am assuming they will start to cut back. It's hard to plan when to do what when you don't even have park hours! Oh well.

Just a brief update for now! I'll definitely plan to do a TR for this trip since it'll be my first for DLR. :)

Oh it's SO frustrating having to do ADR's at DL and having no idea what the hours are! That's what we've run into this week.
There are 9 of us going to DL/DCA this trip! My family of 4 plus I am meeting up with one of my besties - who lives here but is vacationing in California the month of August! She has 3 kids and is traveling down to DL with them and her mom. We've got the PTN on the go package booked but the latest it would let us book was 3:45:crazy2: Don't want to (a) eat dinner at 3:45 or (b) carry it around with us so we switched it to lunch so we'll still get the priority seating for the parade that night and are doing Cafe Orleans for dinner that night!
The day before we are doing Ariel's Grotto for lunch (still a character meal) just my family, part of my eldest DD's birthday present :thumbsup2 as she turns 8 two weeks before our tip. I asked her to make sure she was good with it being part of her gift from us and she said yes  frugal mama strikes again! I was also considering the WOC dessert party for that night but we saw WOC last October and don't plan on seeing it again (it was good but we don't feel the need to see it again) so now I'm not sure if I will make any more ressies. We are doing Medieval Times on our first night in SoCal; our first full day we are going to Universal and I wanted to make a ressie at Goofy's Kitchen for dinner but can't rely on what time we'll be back (and crummy LA-area traffic) so that might be a miss as well.

Yay to DLR plans!! Everything sounds wonderful! I need to get there one of these days while my boys are young. I'm trying to talk my parents into renting an RV and driving cross country. I did a 7 week cross country trip that included DLR back in 2002 and it was wonderful!

Though the planning sounds so much like WDW these days. Making ADRs without knowing park hours...where have I heard that before? LOL.

I love your trip reports. And that is a ginormous Dole whip float... not that I have many to compare to, having never been to the World, but really, I think it's ginormous for anywhere :joker: I hope there's nothing like the crane when we make it to the World. I was a little (ok, very) upset when I saw that Sleeping Beauty castle would be covered for my first trip - both when I read it online about two weeks before, and when we got there in person.

We go to Disneyland in 12 days and have a lot of the same places booked. We're doing Storytellers, the PTN package, the Dessert party (shhh - it's a surprise!), Carnation and Cafe Orleans. Also a Wine Country Trattoria WOC dinner package. We were frustrated with the WOC stuff because our ADR window opened, and you couldn't book any of the packages because they didn't have the show scheduled past July 2. It ended up opening about two weeks later.

We're debating the Frozen preshow right now. We weren't originally planning on doing PTN package, just eating at Blue Bayou... then we saved some money on tickets so we changed it. But we already have so many expensive package meals I can't decide on doing the Frozen preshow :confused3 But I'm worried about fitting in other snacks too! I didn't do any food research before our trip last year. And this year, even though I did lots of reading, I missed Ariel's Princess Breakfast??? Maybe I can sneak it in...

The Disneyland podcast guys said the WOC dessert party is definitely worth it. The food is supposed to be good, and you get actual plates. They also have seats. I watched the fireworks video, and they are awesome. Do everything in your power to see them. I think they might be the best show ever. Carthay Circle is really good. Everyone says to get the biscuits. We didn't know to get them when we went:( Don't forget to get some 60th desserts from Jolly Holiday. DLR, how exciting:Pinkbounc
