News Round Up 2016

Darn it someone beat me to it!

Anyways, this proves that the ride will not go outside like originally speculated. This also shows that the ride will be relatively short which isn't good. This ride holds 165,000 gallons of water where as a ride like pirates holds 600,000+ gallon so for water.

What are the dimensions of that entire show building? It would fit inside that, should be able to calculate about how the long the ride lengths are then.

Hey guys, ok, these clearly aren't scientific or anything, but I just did some really rough drawings on google earth (about the extent of what I can do in 10 mins without being able to do an overlay of the images) but one I was realllllly generous (too generous) the other is more realistic I think ...

Over generous - 1900 ft
Realistic (still generous I think) - 900 ft.

For reference I think Jungle cruise is slightly under 1900 feet ...

Nice work

Well - that's a hard judgement to make. The volume of water is dependent on the surface area requirements. Pirates has several segments (particularly the Barbarossa scene at the bottom of the waterfall) that require much more water. The ride could still be as long as Pirates with a third the water.

I also think that seeing that picture I have no relativity of scale, so I can't judge how long or short it is.

I have less expectations for this ride than the Banshee ride anyways. To me this is the "family" ride so I expect it to be if anything less exciting than PotC. A ride through the flora and fauna of pandora, and then at some point (this is speculation on my part) the boat gets attacked by some creature, you barely get away, and that's it. Essentially a Disney Dark Ride.

I give you a bunch of credit for doing that so quickly, but I think you are pretty far off on the spotting of the ride, it's going to be further southeast. However, I think you got the scale roughly correct on the second drawing - or maybe even slightly smaller.

Alternatively we should be judging this against "It's a Small World". That is a slow-moving boat ride that take about 10 minutes to complete. It went on Google Earth and measured it - about 200 feet x 300 feet - this is roughly the same size as the ride you are showing here. The path of it's a small world is 1,085 ft from what I could gather off the internet, so that would be a pretty comparable footprint at 900 ft.

Remember also this is supposed to be some new-fangled track/trackless system where the boats can change direction, which might also make it longer. Those dips in the path in the back could be where this happens. (I am calling the flat section to the Northeast the "front", as I assume that is where the load, unload is.

So this being a 5-7 minute ride is quite reasonable for it's size.

I'm not sure about the dimensions of the building I'll have to see if I can find that.

OK guys, since you were interested, I did some overlay work ... because ... its thursday ? :)

here we go ...

I did one where I had to contort the photo to make the shore line of the pond actually fit properly, this seems to be the most accurate possible, and its the most disappointing. On the other hand I blew one up to the largest it could possibly be, but you will note the shore line makes no sense, and the existing water flow rather than running along the employee access road cuts through some of the treed area ... I am going to go ahead and say the one I had to contort makes the most sense.

image overlay as best I could with no measures:

Image overlay as best I could with measures - roughly 600 feet, 1/3rd the size of jungle cruise

Image overlay blow up to the largest it could be, even though it doesn't make sense - still only 800 feet

That is true but this building is much smaller compared to say the banshee ride building. We'd have to compare the bundling size to that of pirates. I still think pirates is bigger though without doing such. It's been said the ride will only be about 5-6 minutes which is shorter than pirates.

Interesting. However I know you were doing this quick but the maps don't quite line up as the show building is towards the back left corner of the land they are working on. The building is almost right up against the fence as you can see it using Disney transportation.

Yea like I said, there is something off, but I Can't tell what, There is no way to make the shore line/roads line up properly other than the way I have posted the photo. I don't know if the image posted just doesn't have an accurate shore line ??? But I think regardless we are looking at between 600 and 800 ft. Though as a PP noted, there might be some back and forth on the ride. That really is the only way the image posted overlays with google maps properly. Will also note that what looks like parking or something in the image I was using to overlay lines up perfectly with the existing access road as I have posted it.

Based on some overlays on wdwmagic as well its speculated that the ride could be anywhere from 4.5-7.5 minutes depending on speed and such. Also noted that the original leaked avatar blue print showed the boat ride exiting the building which is not happening in this latest permit.

I'm depressed all over again that it's taking 6 years to build small world in avatar...

Is it just me?

I doubt you are alone. Many probably can't leave their homes until its done.

Avatar fans suicidal because planet Pandora is not real
Fans of Avatar have been left feeling blue by the realisation that the utopian planet Pandora is not real, with some saying they are plagued by suicidal thoughts.

On the fan forum site "Avatar Forums," a topic thread entitled "Ways to cope with the depression of the dream of Pandora being intangible," has received more than 1,000 posts from people experiencing depression and fans trying to help them cope

Remember this is the secondary ride - not the primary ride. I am not sure what people expected from it, all indications are a slow-moving boat ride through the world of Pandora. If this was the only thing they were building, then maybe disappointment, but really I don't see how this news is any different from ALL the news that came before.

. I was hoping they'd change their minds and put ewoks in there...

I know this is off topic but you know you know to much Disney stuff when you watch pride and prejudice in English class and notice that one of the actors is Judy Dench and thinking the only other thing I know her from is SSE.

Back to regular programming.

Actually was wondering how you update on here all day while in class.
