ROA drained!!

I would guess that even if a portion of the RoA is drained, they can't move/position the water crafts (i.e., Columbia and Mark Twain) to move correctly.

They've done F! without the boats before - although not both boats. But I've seen it without the Mark Twain. I suppose it just wouldn't be good enough to call F! so why disappoint all the Disney purists. Just thinking out loud.

They probably don't have access to the staging areas at the back of TSI. Or they originally planned to have more construction going on at this point than they do.

This!

The front of the river looks the same. There are boards up near Hungry Bear and behind Big Thunder Mtn, so you cant get a view of the back of the river. I heard that is being dammed up, so I guess that means they are only working on sections at a time and that the water won't be completely drained. With all the construction about to happen, is probably safer to not have F!

I also read a rumor that they are using this time of construction to re-tool Fantasmic and will ultimately return with some changes. That might be interesting if true.

If there's still water in the front of Tom Sawyer island, I wonder why they aren't having Fantasmic?

There's also the princess boats. And actors need access to the island. I would think trying to run the show would be very difficult. Saves them money to close it down too.

Oh you have no idea how happy this makes me! The ROA area is one of my favourite places to take a quiet few minutes to people watch and recharge the batteries. It's such a beautiful space. I'm so glad it will remain like that and not be covered up in pardon our pixie dust walls!

Your not alone - we feel the same way. In fact if the ROA are closed and walled off (and we had notice of such) we would not go to the park until they're restored. Yep, it's that important to us!

The dams are up near Hungry Bear (thus the walls up there) and at Indian village, which isn't visible from the front of the river. So the only way someone will get pics of the dams is if they are backstage, or are really really tall. haha

The Fantasmic boat staging area is behind the Indian Village and is part of the reconstruction.

I learned from one of the Mark Twain lead CMs that they plan to keep the Columbia in dry dock this spring to give it some much needed TLC and then they hope to open it up like the Mark Twain as a living museum sort of attraction.

By the way, They will let you take food and drinks aboard the Mark Twain while it is docked. They have a few tables and chairs set up on the lower two decks of the bow of the ship. A great spot for a snack with a view. :D You can also ask the Pilots (The guys who steer the ship) for a tour and climb up into the upper cabin, learn how the ship is steered, and ring the bell and blow the horn and see where Walt liked to hide out. :sail:

I completely agree!! We will be there in June and I was not happy when I heard that everything on ROA will be down when we are there, I thought for sure we were going to see a lot of construction walls up, I am so happy to know that I can still sit along that area and just gaze and relax. Plus my DMIL will be joining us this trip (this will be her first time at DLR) and I will still be able to show her one of the prettiest areas of the park even while construction is going on :goodvibes.

I'm so happy to read this! And that Tianna and Louis are there. I'm going to return in October and we didn't get a chance to hit the MT last time. I'm going to make this a priority this time.

So the river will remain partially filled? If anyone has pics of this, I'd love to see. We'll be there in three weeks' time!
I will also be there in 3 weeks! And knowing that only parts of the river will be blocked off and drained is awesome I was afraid there would be a huge ugly wall in front of ROA ruining my Disneyland experience!

OH MAN. Pics, anyone?

Do you think the Dapper Dans will still sing for Halloween on their boat? I'm starting to get a little scared that I won't enjoy the park that much this year because of all the construction going around. :(

For those that are curious about what it looks like in general when drained, there's a ton of pics on Google Images. Obviously not from the draining, but past ones, and there were even some showing the damming system.
I always imgained it being much deeper.

They can do it without the Mark Twain, but they cannot do it without the Columbia. Additionally, the fort area where a lot of storage is for Fantasmic! is being removed.

I have heard several rumors that Fanstasmic! will not be returning, but only time will tell if they are accurate or not.

I wonder when Google Earth will do another fly-by anytime soon. With a little luck we'll get some overhead construction pics like we did for RSR.

I just looked at the pictures online. Do Mark Twain and Colombia follow the same track? I'm curious how it all works. I'm glad to hear they didn't completely drain ROA. I imagine they might have to for awhile, but it is such a big part of the atmosphere that it would be sad to have it boarded up for a year or two.
