Linking reservations...?

Hi Everyone,

I was finally able to piece together a week long trip for March from 3 different consecutive reservations to cover the full week. All 3 reservation are at Kidani Village for a studio with savanna view.

I have a question regarding linking the 3 reservations. I thought I read in previous posts that Member Services could merge all 3 reservation into 1 so we don't have to check in and check out 3 total times. But I just called and was told the only thing they can do is put a note with each reservation, and hopefully they will be able to accommodate us when we check in for the first time. I also asked about possibly adding the dining plan and he said that they would need to add it separately for each reservation, which would mean that we would get 3 drinking mugs per person...don't really need or want 12 more mugs!!!!

So did Member Services do the right (and only) thing possible or is there some way to get all 3 reservations merged into one?

Thanks!

I had the same situation at BWV in November 2013 and they automatically combined them when the waitlist came through for the first night.

You don't have to get the extra drink mugs. The first ones you get are good for something like 14 days.

Do not ask for them to be linked ask for them to be combined otherwise you will have to check in and out even if they keep you in the same room.

Call back as long as it is all the exact same room type they can be made into 1 reservation with 1 confirmation number

I thought the mugs were only good for the "length of stay"? But if I can decline them, I definitely will.

I will call back and ask to have them combined...don't know why guest services didn't know or think to do that...

I get things merged all the time. Once or twice I've been lectured on the correct term but usually asking to combine or merge will get it done.

You'll find that Disney's published policy is often different than their technical implementation. "Length of stay" is coded as 14 days.

If all three reservations were made with points from the same use year, MS should be able to just combine them into one reservation and thus result in your being able to do the dining plan for one reservation. If you were using different use years and thus different member numbers, the only thing they can do is link the reservations, which assures you won't have to move but leaves the reservations separate for other purposes such as dining plan. In that situation, which we have had twice in the last two years, one at AKV and one at BWV, you should no longer have to do a check out and check in on the turnover days of the reservations as the resorts can now put them together without the computer system insisting on multiple check ins.

I added an extra night to my week stay. I didn't add the dining plan to this one extra day reservation. If I have a left over quick service meal, can I use it this extra day?? Or do they really expire at midnight the last day of my first reservation

1. they expire at midnight
2. If MS merges the reservation, they'll cancel the dining plan. They may or may not tell you about it.

Have a similar question. I just made a reservation for 4 nights. Three nights are with my points and one night is with my parents' points. We all have the same use year but different membership numbers. Member services had told me they could combine but I haven't called to do this yet.

1. It is possible to combine these so we won't have to check out and back in, right?
2. Since the reservation was made with two different contracts, can we add the dining plan for only the first three nights? Is this still true even if the reservation is combined?

Thanks!

Not sure what MS is telling you. They can link any two member's reservations for the same room and guests but they cannot combine them into one reservation, and thus the answer to both Q's should be yes because the reservation is not combined into a single reservation (for Question 2) but linking these days should be enough to accomplish avoiding multiple check-ins (for Question 1).

Thanks. I might have used the term "link" with MS not realizing there was a difference. As long as we don't have to check out and back in I'll be happy. Interesting on the dining plan.

Just called back and had them combine all three into one reservation...no problems at all.

Thanks again for everyones help.

That is different than the OP's situation. MS cannot combine reservations that are in different memberships. It can be linked but it will require checking out and checking in. The reason for linking is for them to keep you in the same room.

In this instance, do you need to physically empty your room of all belongings to check out by 11 and then move back in at 4? What if the exact same names are on both reservations? (different DVC contracts)

I'm asking because I might have a reservation coming up where I need to rent points for 3 days then use my own points for 1 day for the same room.

No, you don't do that. The linking is meant to keep you in the same room - and I've never had it be anything different than that. The checking out and checking in should reactivate your MB do enter the room again. In theory it really ought to be able to happen without that if they bothered to get it set up but the best bet is to go to the front desk and just take care of it with them.

You will have to check out and back in, but you should be able to take care of that at the front desk in the morning without changing rooms. One time, they called my room the night before and took care of it over the phone.

Which resort did that?

I do think WDW could be more proactive with this. At DL this Dec/Jan they actually checked me in for both reservations at our initial check in - all we had to do was switch the key card we were using. At Aulani they placed our new cards under the door early in the morning. Of course, before they "upgraded" systems at WDW a link meant it was a seemless reservation where you didn't have to check out and in again.
