Travel Warning

We arrive at WDW this Friday & I'm concerned about the travel warning issued. Although it emphasizes travel abroad, it does mention crowded locations & events here in the US. Anyone else worried about upcoming travel?

I think there's always a little anxiety about it, but the reality is by being so afraid and by allowing these incidents to affect how we go about our daily lives, we're letting them win. So am I concerned about it? Yes, but only slightly more concerned than I usually am. I'm certainly not going to let it affect any part of my travels.

Not really. I'm not going out of the country so that helps. As far as someone targeting Disney or other theme parks, could it happen, sure. Will it likely happen, no. We had our share of warnings after 9/11 so it's just a normal part of life now - and life goes on. On that note - we found amazing rates on house rentals even over Christmas break in December after 9/11 as so many fewer people wanted to travel. So - travel warnings can work in your favor too!

Not 1 little bit. Not even a small amount, not at all.

The odds are so minor, that even if you were at a park and it got attacked, you would most likely not be in the attack, if it even happened, which its self if highly unlikely.

The reality is that 1) it can happen any time any place, and 2) the US is doing a much better job than you know at controlling access to the parts required to put together an attack. As soon as they get word of someone looking to put a device together, they are all over it. Somewhat recently a group tried to blow up a bridge near me. They ended up being surrounded by undercover agents, and informants, and they had no idea. They went so far as too "sell" them parts that they though were real, and made the arrests when they were on their way to plant it. Big news here locally, but didn't get much national attention.

Movies Theaters and Malls are crowded locations and events, too. Anywhere that any of us go on a daily basis could be a potential target. We have to choose to live in fear, or to live our lives and excercise caution. Each of us has to find the balance that works for us. If we live in fear, the terrorists win.

I'm at WDW 5 days a week - more if I go on my days off work. I'm not worried about a terror attack happening there. Is it possible? Of course. But it's also possible that I'll be killed by a drunk driver on my way home from the grocery store.

I'll be flying home for my mother's birthday in a few weeks, and I'm not worried about that either. I was a New Yorker in the post-9/11 years... I refuse to be afraid. YMMV.

I work at a university and every school shooting makes one think about it happening at our campus. I've done active shooter training and my office has a plan if something happens but even that isn't any guarantee. But fear debilitates and I'm not willing to be fearful every day. I feel the same way about traveling to disney or other places. Yes, it could happen. I refuse to live my life worrying about it happening.

I'll be traveling to San Diego this weekend- I'll be honest I'd be more worried about being killed by an American than by a foreign terrorist- odds make it much more likely anyway

I was just at WDW from the 12th to the 20th. My step mom was texting me and telling me to be careful, etc. I wasn't real concerned about it. I was also at WDW about 3 weeks after 9/11. Almost every single person I knew was telling me to cancel my trip. I refused to cancel. I was in HS waiting for F! when I found out about the air strike on Afganistan.

I feel safe at dworld because i dont think terrorists will spend the money and the far drive etc to come there and do anything, its so isolated. Its too inconvinient for them. It makes me feel muuuch better lol. And then fastpass + and dining, etc oyyy foget about it.

Cautiously alert but not really worried.

Same here. To be honest, I'd be more worried about something like the Macy's Thanksgiving parade - big crowd and live broadcast that would have a lot of viewers so they could make a larger impact with one event. I think I'm more likely to die on I-4 getting to WDW than in WDW itself. Kind of like that analogy about you're more likely to die on the way to the airport than in a plane crash. I will be visiting WDW next month and plan to relax and have a good time. None of us know when our time is up - enjoy every day as if it were your last and live without fear :santa:.

Just got home from Europe a week ago. My dd is still there. She flies home in a week. I fly to LA, from Boston, on Sat, then to MCO on the following Weds. I'm more concerned about my dd's flying home....from Heathrow to Boston. I refuse to stop flying or going wherever I want.
Like others, I get more concerned about malls and theaters......those 'domestic' terrorists are much more scary. At least airports have some kind of security. Not so with those other public places.

No plans to travel but I wouldn't worry about it. Look at it this way. The week you travel to Disney might be the very week they attack your home town and being at Disney saves your life.

The only way to avoid being part of a random act of terror is to hole up at home. And that's what they want. Don't give them that.

There's always risk in life. If you live in the US, you are more likely to be killed in a car accident. Does that stop most people from driving? No. Just don't do stupid things, be aware of your surroundings, and enjoy life. Would you rather die at Disney or in a car accident on the way to work? I grew up in Oklahoma City, and my mom used to work in the Murrah building, way before it was bombed. No one ever thought an act of terrorism, yes it was terrorism just domestic, could hit there, but it did. So it can happen anywhere and for any reason.

I work at a facility that is considered a target. It's fine. Getting thru the gate the past little bit has been a bit harder, but nothing bad.

I'm leaving for Disney in a couple of weeks. Not missing that for anything.

However, I HATE flying. Hate it, hate it, hate it, but 1/2 of that is not terrorist related, it's more of a "how in the world am I safe not connected to the ground" type of fear. (I refuse to get back on Soarin') The whole travel warning has just magnified that fear A LOT. Can't convince my husband to drive down so I guess I'm gonna be knocking back the booze before boarding.

WDW is one of the targets in the US. What is more American than Disney? Some of the 9/11 hijackers trained as pilots in Florida. You should be alert and aware no matter where you are, not necessarily for a terrorist attack but any kind of danger.
