Halloween Cruisin' on Disney Wonder to Cabo San Lucas W/Mickey Jack & Minnie Sally, Oct. 11-16, 2015

Oh my, their costumes were so cute!! Poor DS, he really wasn't into it after a while. That's a shame about the trick or treating. Do you think they were just a bit too disorganized or were they overwhelmed with the amount of people?

I had read on previous threads and TR's that this has happened before. I wish they would stock more candies or maybe limit how the candy distribution works. DH pointed out that adults were even getting candy. Technically, it is for everyone. I just feel bad for the children who I think would enjoy the idea of "trick or treating." DH also reminded me that the reason why DS was not in the last picture...he was already asleep on DH's shoulder!

Day Four: Wednesday, October 14, 2015 (CABO SAN LUCAS DAY- Part One)

This is the day I’ve had been waiting 17 monthsfor…Cabo San Lucas Day! Whoo-hoo! :rainbow::jumping1::banana::banana::banana::cool1::cool1::cool1::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::dancer::dancer::dancer::umbrella::umbrella::umbrella::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::boat::boat::boat:

Ok, seriously...this is how I felt when I went to bed the previous night and when I woke up!!!

Off-topic: We had booked Back to Back cruises for May 2015 for a 2 day cruise to nowhere and a 3 day Ensenada cruise (had also booked it on opening day March 2014). But then I jumped at the chance to go to Cabo San Lucas when this cruise opened up May 2014.

I had done so much research looking at what the maps for the marina were like, where some shops and malls were, which restaurants were reasonable yet family friendly and an easy walk. I researched which non-DCL excursions were available that best suited DH and the kids. I had been oooohing and aaaaahing over pictures of Los Arcos. Alas, the day had finally come and I was beyond excited!!!

As usual, I went to sleep with my map channel so I woke up with my beloved map channel!

We were cruising at 8.1 knots and it was 5:45 am. I waited awhile, got ready, and later woke up DH around 6am. I slowly woke up the kids. We couldn’t believe how MANY boats were going out to see…clearly fishing was so dominant in this town. We counted 70 by the time we anchored. More kept coming, too.

We arrived to this at 6:45 am. Several tender boats were waiting to pick up eager DCL guests.

I had DH finish getting himself and the kids ready. I had pre-ordered room service for delivery between 5:30-6 am and it arrived at 5:30. How prompt! Be aware that when you order muffin, it is one little muffin; a pastry is a small pastry. Oh, this will not do for a family of four!!! I went to get food at Beach Blanket Buffet and fruit at Goofy's Galley. But, first I went up to deck 10 to get these shots. I ran into BCFergus and her DH. Sorry that some of the photos are a little fuzzy...I had used zoom on my phone's camera.

I went back to the cabin & had everyone eat. DD was so excited to come to Cabo as well. Both kids had done homework the week before because their teachers were kind enough to give it ahead of time. DD and I told her teach about going to Cabo. I took several pictures and promised her that I would email pics to her teacher when we disembark on Friday and get internet access again.

I purposely woke up early because I wanted to see us pass Los Arcos and see where the ship would “park” for tendering. I had seen previous You Tube Videos where Wonder was “parked” a little far way. I couldn’t believe how close we were! It was so amazing and beautiful. Pictures really don’t capture its natural beauty.

UP NEXT: MORE AMAZING CABO PHOTOS!

Day Four: Wednesday, October 14, 2015 (CABO SAN LUCAS DAY- Part Two)

Poor Mickey Jack and Minnie Sally. They told me that I had been forgetting to include them on all the fun. They were really jealous and wanted to go to shore, but I assured them they were safer inside. Besides, they had company...DD and DS's toys and stuffed animals kept them company!

Look…Mickey Jack, Minnie Sally, and DD’s and DS’s favorite stuffed animals were enjoying the view! Unfortunately, they would not be going to shore with us.

DD and DS posed for me. When we disembarked two days later, I emailed photos to DD's teacher.

One last restroom visit in our cabin then we went to the Buena Vista Theater to get our tender boat tickets. There were very few people. They walked us in and immediately out where we got our tickets. We headed down the deck 1 gangway aft and were one of the last families to board the tender. We were in the 2nd to last row and a lovely family was behind us. I immediately began talking to the mother who was also there with her husband and 3 teenage children. She and I were soooo excited and hit it off gabbing away! In the meantime, I was going picture crazy!!!

By the way, it was about 8:30 and it was already sooooo hot and humid. There were NO clouds in the sky. I forced everyone to have sunblock (put them on in the cabins) and wear hats.

The tender boat ride was very quick…maybe 5 minutes to get to the marina. I had seen many maps online, but nothing did it justice. Reality was definitely different in person. We were one of the last ones off the boat.

We saw a CM at the dock and asked him to take a picture of us w/Disney Wonder in the background.

As we exited the tender pier, I had already had a family discussion with the kids. I explained that the local people depend on us (tourists) for their business. There are many of them trying to get our attention. I told them not to say anything to them and that I would do all the talking. I also told them that I would also be doing the talking when it comes to buying things. I explained that I would be bargaining prices lower.

I have to say that I felt they were more aggressive than I expected. We were on Disney Fantasy on the Western Caribbean itinerary. I thought the shop employees and vendors were aggressive. However, this experience really took the cake. They were people left and right yelling out about glass bottom boat tour, water taxis, etc.

I had done a lot of research and decided on a glass bottom boat tour. It was a very short walk to find the vendor. We paid $1 to enter the marina entrance and entered a boat larger than the pictures I had seen. There were various sizes of lifevests around the perimeter of the boat’s benches. The life vests were very old and torn, but functional. The captain introduced himself and the boat’s driver. We waited several more minutes for more passengers who turned out to be a man. After Los Arcos, he got dropped off at Medrano Beach to be picked up at a later time.

We headed out and I was beyond excited. We were getting closer and our guide explained different rock formations and the different shapes they made.

At one point, we went to a certain area frequented by scuba divers. Our driver threw several pieces bread into the ocean. All of a sudden, you could see several fish under the boat through the glass bottom. The better view was by looking over the edge. They were so cool for us and the kids to see.

UP NEXT: EVEN MORE CABO PICTURES!

Day Four: Wednesday, October 14, 2015 (CABO SAN LUCAS- Part Three)

Get ready for even MORE pictures! It was so mesmerized by the beauty! I was so grateful that my family and I got to experience this together. I knew they were too young to really appreciate it, but old enough to understand that this was a special trip.

As we got closer to Los Arcos, I was amazed by its beauty. None of the previous pictures were able to do it justice. I loved how much lighter the rock formations were in person. As the Sea of Cortez met the Pacific Ocean, the waves were evidently rockier and turbulent. It was so fascinating. The pictures would have been perfect if that DARN boat wasn't in the way!!!:furious:>:(

They drove us back a little closer to the Sea of Cortez and he took some family photos.

We saw a group of sea lions. I forgot to ask him if this was supposed to be the Sea Lion Colony. There was a large group of them resting and sleeping on the rock formations. He took some more photos of us with the sea lions in the background.

Apparently, he is not a professional photographer because DH kept getting cut off in these photos!

Some more photos as we headed back:

Look how beautiful Disney Wonder is!

We headed back to the marina and we tipped them a few more dollars. From start to finish, our trip lasted 30 minutes. We got off the boat and had to go back through the sea of vendors again. We approached the dolphin experience at Cabo Adventures. Not quite sure what their technical name is. From the outside, it was a large gray concrete building. The kids were curious and wanted to see if they could see the dolphins. It looked like a large and busy place so I told them they could check it out and I was thinking of looking at their gift shop.

Once we got inside, it was sooooo cool (literally and figuratively). I wish I took more pictures. There were clearly many people waiting to start their adventure. They had about 3-4 very large porthole windows that looked directly into the pool. Every once in awhile you could see a dolphin tale, but they were so fast that I couldn’t get great pictures. They tried to get good views.

I browsed the shop. In the end, DD got a large dolphin that had a baby dolphin attached. DS got a set of bath sealife toys. We used their restrooms and left.

I entered Royal Jewelers (?). Of all the DCL jewelry shops, I knew it was the cheapest. I really wasn’t looking for expensive jewelry. Honestly, I wanted to find a unique sterling silver piece. The store was nicely air conditioned. We were the only customers and there were several salespeople present. A man approached me. Honestly, in the end, I don’t think he had a good idea of what I wanted or my true sense of budget. I really didn’t want to spend much. He showed me some pieces and tried to give me prices. Ultimately, my heart was with a sterling silver whale tale that had black onyx and some cubic zirconia for accents. It included a cheap sterling silver box chain. I was ready to walk out, really not willing to spend as much as they were asking. The owner took over and I gave a final price that I didn’t think they’d go for and they did!

By this time, the kids had been complaining that they were hungry. I had bottled water and we tried to keep them hydrated, but it was just too darn hot. Literally 3 buildings away was Solomon’s Landing. A family friendly Mexican restaurant/bar overlooking the marina. We had the kids split a cheese quesadilla plate (they were nice to split the order onto 2 plates).

DD got a local version of Sprite. DS got a virgin pina colada. Boy, did he slurp that down so quickly! Obviously, very refreshing! Aaaaahhhh!

DH got a Modelo Negro beer (apparently you can’t get it where we live). It was cheap, too!

DH got a street tacos plate.

I got a “Coke Light” to replace a Diet Coke. I found the can very amusing!

I had a 2 chicken enchilada plate. They had shredded lettuce and some sort of cream sauce ALL over! I previously mentioned I don't like those kind of sauces so I IMMEDIATELY got it off my plate. As a result, my plate doesn't look so pretty. Sorry!

Day Four: Wednesday, October 14, 2015 (CABO SAN LUCAS- Part 3)

After we settled our bill, we made a restroom trip then left. We looked at quite a few stores from the outside. I found a silver jewelry store I had seen online. I browsed, but didn’t even try anything on (especially since I had that new necklace!). We stopped by a store and got a Cabo San Lucas magnet, a lucha libre mask for DH (he’s a huge wrestling fan!), a wooden flute w/DD’s name painted on and a wooden truck that resembled Mack the truck from Cars w/DS’s name painted on it.

We were soooo hot. I felt like we were constantly melting. DD, DS, and I sweat like pigs! So gross! The town was pretty empty and we were SOOOOO ready to go back onto the air-conditioned ship.

We walked back toward the ship. Halfway there I felt a little weird and realized a couple minutes later I was probably developing heat exhaustion. Our CD Clayton was announcing before debarking about sunblock and hydration. I started guzzling my water and kept on. Within a few minutes, I was fine. We took the tender boat back w/o a wait. The tender boat experience was so painless and fast. As soon as we got on deck 1, we went up one deck and were already at our cabin. It was soooo nice to be back in our new little home away from home! :cloud9::love:

When we arrived at our cabin, we found these waiting!

Can you believe that Mickey Jack and Minnie Sally were still enjoying the view?!?! They didn't move one inch! :rotfl::lmao::laughing:

We had the kids play in the cabin while DH and I took a few more pictures from deck 10.

We changed, relaxed, and ordered room service. DS was tired, but wouldn’t sleep. I turned the TV off. DH was tired so I told him to take a nap. After more than 30 minutes, DS finally fell asleep so I also took a nap. The heat and humidity was so exhausting. DD played in the room.

UP NEXT: It's PIRATE night!!! :hyper::hyper::hyper:

Day Four: Wednesday, October 14, 2015 (PIRATE NIGHT- Part 1)

After we rested, we got the kids changed into their pirate costumes. I had ordered Disney Mickey Pirate and Disney Minnie Pirate shirts on Etsy. I forgot to give DH specific instructions to show the shirt design during pictures. Oh, well! :confused3

We had already agreed that there was NO WAY IN HECK that we would wait in line for Jack Sparrow. I knew it would be beyond insane and that it would mean that we wouldn't be able to get other characters. Besides, we had already pre-paid for the all prints photo package so we were going to get as many character photos as possible! :thumbsup2 To accomplish this mission (especially because the lines were so long), DH would line up at the next character line. Therefore, you won't see DH for a few photos.

First up...Chip 'N Dale!

Next up...Captain Hook and Mr. Smee!

While we waited for the next character meet and greet, we decided to take some photos from deck 4:

Then, it was Tinkerbell with a cute background!

While waiting at the next LONG line, we found this in the lobby atrium starboard side.

Up next: More pirate night photos!!!:jumping1:

Oh my gosh....LOVE all your photos!! Cabo is one of our most fave places to visit; ties for first place with Puerto Vallarta for our Mexico destinations. You were able to get some amazing shots of Los Arcos, we never got that close on our last trip because the water was so rough they just could not chance getting too close and have us end up on the rocks  on the way back to the marina our youngest DD also got sick :crazy2: but apart from that Cabo was fabulous and when Odile hit we were quite worried for all the locals there. So happy to see they have (mostly) gotten back to business as usual!

Day Four: Wednesday, October 14, 2015 (Pirate Night- Part 2)

This is why our wait was sooooo long! A dashing and debonnaire pirate!

Then, we waited in yet ANOTHER line! While Pirate Minnie was signing their autograph books, DS had a silly moment!

Now some photos w/the pirate children:

DH can finally join us because it's the last photo stop!

Taking those photos w/Minnie was worth it to only have ONE more pirate photo after dinner. We are in Main Seating and because the lines were so long we were about 5-10 minutes late to dinner. I hate being late to dinner because I know it can throw off your service team. However, this was the only dinner we were ever late to.

It was at my favorite restaurant Triton's. We were here for embarkation day. I was going to miss their food, but we understood that it would be a pirate menu.

Special flat paper children's pirate menus were waiting.

They could be shaped into pirate hats!

Quick! Let's take some family photos!

While waiting for the food, DS decided to be a silly goose!

We ordered 2 orders of the potstickers for the kids. They LOVED them!

After dinner, we went directly to one of our favorite characters! Pirate STITCH!!! I was so impressed that we were SECOND in line. When the time came, Stitch came halfway down the stairs and waved at everyone. After he greeted the couple before us, it was our turn. The kids ran to him while DH and I stayed behind w/the photographer and also took pictures. FUNNY STORY: Stitch decided to use DS' head as a table in order to sign the autograph books. The height of his head was apparently the perfect height!!! It was soooooo funny!

Our FINAL character photo of the day was Pirate Goofy!

The kids relaxed in the cabin until it was time for the Pirate Deck Party. I actually did some packing. We didn't need to see the whole party. I confirmed that the fireworks would be best seen from the starboard side. We went to deck 10 starboard and found a tight space that was almost perpendicular to the stage. Not a great view, but you could view the screen. It was EXTREMELY crowded and the music was pumping so that was good. It was notably windy though but it still felt warm. The fireworks was pretty cool to see. I loved the music...had a good dance vibe. Ironically, several of them are in various personalized CD's in my car!

It was about 10:40 by now and DD was sooooo exhausted and begging to go back to the cabin. Because it was so crowded, it took a little time. We got the kids ready for bed. I told them to go to sleep and that I'd be back in a few minutes. DH would probably watch the nighttime storytelling at Funnel Vision. I was proud of them for letting us go.

For the 1st time in 3 cruises (mainly because I was determined for DH and I to experience it), we attended the Pirate Night Buffet that was at BBB. pirate: It had already started 10-15 minutes earlier. We got some food, not a lot. Until I saw they had a crepe buffet station! What??!?! Need me to get some! The line was sooooo slow then we ate. Poor DH completely missed out on the storytelling on deck, but luckily he didn't seem too disappointed.

We decided to go to Funnel Vision. He got seats and I checked on the kids. Whew! Sound asleep! I went back to DH. I usually plan things pretty well, but then I realized when the screen started that we'd be watching Disney's "Haunted Mansion." The one with Eddie Murphy? Oh, no. Wasn't that a not so good movie? Let's give it a try. Ok. So I stuck through 2/3 of it. It was one of those movies where it's so bad that you keep watching it to see what happens next. Also, I wanted to see where they'd reference the ride into the movie.

I went back to the cabin, got ready for bed, and looked at the next day's navigator.

Can you believe that DH almost watched the entire movie?!? When I asked him why he didn't finish the movie, he said it was getting too dumb! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

UP NEXT: Day Five...Sea Day...PALO Brunch...What do you mean the cruise is ending?!?!?!

:thanks: Cabo was certainly magnificent and naturally stunning! We have never been to Puerto Vallarta. If DCL would only agree to return to 7 day Mexican cruises, I would be ALL OVER that!

What year did you go? I know you've mentioned that your family has done all-inclusives in Mexico before. Did that include Cabo? I noticed that they so many resorts, including all-inclusives. :beach:

That's too bad that your DD got sick during the boat ride. :(

We were there August 2012 (talk about HOT and HUMID, oy!) Stayed at the Royal Solaris, saw photos right after Odile hit, it was heartbreaking. They are all good now though. Next time we go to Cabo I'd like to try the Dreams resort, they *just* reopened from Odile a few weeks ago. If DCL ever does a 7 day Mexican cruise again I will be ALL over that!! :jumping1:

I don't know what it is but seeing Mickey and Minnie dressed up in costumes - any costumes - always makes me smile :) You've got some really excellent photos to go along with your memories.

And I'm sorry...you did Palo brunch twice on this cruise? You are my hero :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Ha, ha, ha!!! Yes, Palo brunch TWICE! No Palo dinner, we really prefer brunch! Yuuuummmmmyyyyyy! Believe me when I say we waddled out of there both times! ::yes::

Thanks you again for the kind words! :thanks:

Ohhhh, seeing all those beautiful pictures really makes me wish we were back there again :) DD did her first ocean scuba dive in Cabo when we were there on one of the MR cruises.

OMG - the heat that day was brutal. We just walked about the port area (had margaritas, did some shopping, had lobster for lunch) and I was so ready to get back to the ship. It was so hot that the glue on one of my shoes melted and part of the bottom came off :faint: But I still totally wish I was back there again :)

I really loved the port except for the heat and humidity and the pushy vendors. I would definitely return again!!!

Your report has been gold to me!! My family and I will be setting sail for the first time ever November 27th, and reading your report has made me want to be extremely organized (because you can never be too organized, right?), and much more excited!

:welcome::welcome::welcome:
I love reading TR's! Everybody's experience is so different!

Thank you for your kind words! :flower1::teeth::flower::hippie:

Is this your 1st time on Wonder? Who else is coming w/you? Ask away if you have any questions! :wave2:

Is your cruise a Merrytime themed cruise? I would love to see the holiday overlay. One day I'd love to do one.

I agree about organization because of time management. It helped me a lot for embarkation day.

This will be our 1st cruise ever. :D only two weeks away and we are boiling over in excitement.

I have SO many questions, lol.
Are there irons on board?

Should we take a lightqwight stroller for our 10 month old (who is walking, but Im sure he'll get tired) since we will be doing lots of walking at the Atlantis aquqadventure.

What about lifejackets? DH wants to take the kids, but I told him there would be some for them to use. You would be the tie breaking decision :)

How exciting for you!!! No worries...I have answers for you!

Do not bring life jackets. They have them at the pool deck. They have sizes for small and larger kids. There are lifeguards there. How old are your kids again? The 10 month old should wear swim diapers but will NOT be allowed into the pools. There is a splash area next to the Mickey pool.

Do not bring irons. They aren't permitted. Irons and ironing boards are in the self-service laundry room. We put our items that need to be hung on hangers then in a garment bag. As soon as we get them, I hang them and spray wrinkle release spray. I buy a small pray bottle and fill it. Make sure it's in your checked baggage because of TSA AND I out my liquids in ziploc bags. I can't tell you how many times things leak from travel.

Our 1st cruise was when DS was 14months old. Bring a small collapsible stroller. You can store luggage under bed (unless it's very deep). Huge space saver.

Bring prepackaged snacks for your kids for port days. We had bottled waters in our carry ons. Drank them in our room and when in port.

If you have any ?'s, let me know.

Wow you have been updating like crazy!

Too much to comment on with all these updates. The trip to the arch looked nice. Someday we will get off the ship in Cabo.

Ha, ha, ha!!! I had enough time (at least DH was understanding enough to let me update) and I wanted to post!

I really thought Cabo was beautiful! :lovestruc:love::cloud9:
