"Does this ride have drops?" March 2015 TR *NEW* 1/17 COMPLETE - Final Thoughts

Then I talked him into going onto Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride with me by telling him he could sit behind the steering wheel and “drive” the car.
That trick always works. :rotfl2:

DS spotted a Buzz Lightyear blaster toy on a random shelf and asked if he could put it back where it goes, so I said sure and we went to hang it up with the rest of the blasters. Imagine my surprise when a CM came over and said he was so impressed with DS wanting to pick up something that wasn’t where it belonged and that he wanted to give DS the blaster at no charge if that was okay with me. Proud momma moment!! Of course I said yes, and DS was thrilled to be the proud new owner of a blaster!
Cool! I'm glad that he was trying to be helpful and responsible, but you just can't beat that little extra bit of pixie dust that rewarded his good deed!

By then, DH and I were ready for some real food, so we went to Golden Horseshoe to get some dinner. Unexpectedly, as we were sitting there eating, a performance started on stage, and it ended up being one of our favorite things we experienced on the trip! The basic premise was the mayor was trying to find a man to marry his daughter, so they played a dating game with guys from the audience. It was HILARIOUS!
Looks like a fun show! I'm glad you stumbled across it!

I hope you’re not sick of these night shots by now!
Um... no. I think I can tolerate a few more.

The loading area for the trams was PACKED, and it looked like it would be several trams before we could get on, so we decided to walk to the parking garage. It may not have actually been any faster, but at least we felt like we were moving. We got back to the room and went off to sleep as quickly as we could!
Looks like a fun day! I can't blame you for walking. I'd have totally done the same myself. It does feel faster even if it might not actually be faster.

I didn't realize they did shows at DL's Diamond Horseshoe. When DW and I went to WDW in the '90s they were still doing that at the Diamond Horseshoe in Frontierland. We may have to check out this show if we have time during our trip!

That was really nice of the CM to give your DS the blaster. Such a nice moment that doesn't happen anywhere but Disney.

We watched Ichabod and Mr. Toad for Halloween this year. The Wind and the Willows portion (which I am not sure I've ever seen before) of the cartoon is actually pretty awful. What's interesting is while the story somewhat centers around Mr. Toad and his fascination with cars - the portion where he actually DRIVES the car is completely skipped over in the movie. I will be interested in riding the ride after having seen the movie.

We also watched Roger Rabbit with DD earlier this month. She didn't even REMEMBER there was a Roger Rabbit ride in toontown. That movie still holds up - she actual wants to watch it with her friends.

Never get tired of your DH's great photos. Love the Carsland at night shots! Also anxious to read about your latest trip to WDW with your family of 4!

I'm glad to hear it because we ALWAYS have plenty of nighttime shots! He really enjoys working to perfect those.

Hopefully I can get started on that one soon!

It sounds like you and DS had lots of fun in Fantasyland!

It was definitely nice getting so much one on one time with him.

What a special moment! That's awesome that the CM recognized DS's kind deed. And we have that same blaster at home!

I was blown away when the CM approached us and said he wanted to reward DS! DS was just excited to get the blaster and didn't really understand the meaning behind it, but it was definitely special to me.

Great picture, but for some reason it really makes me laugh that DH is holding that blaster like he's ready to defend the car!

Ha! I never noticed that!!

That sounds hilarious! Glad you stumbled into such a fun show!

It was such a great little piece of entertainment, and we really lucked out that we chose then and there to have dinner.

Great shot! It's beautiful at night!

Can't wait to hear about the October trip :)

Sounds like you and DS had some nice alone time. And awesome that you got to catch the parade anyway!

Omgosh what a cute story about him putting the toy back and the CM wanting to gift him for it! Amazing moment!

Love the pics of DH & DS on Autopia, too cute.

Gorgeous Paradise Pier shots...and Carsland too!

I hope I can get started on it soon! I'm at DH's mercy until he edits all the pics for me to upload. lol

It was a great little piece of time getting to spend one on one with him. Looking back now, I'm so glad we had that time on this trip because on this most recent one I spent a LOT of time tending to the baby instead of getting to do more with DS, so it was really perfect.

That's so great that the CM made that gesture - and hopefully a good lesson for your son that sometimes it pays to do the right thing!

Glad you got to see some of the parade anyway - we caught that one a bit by accident (were planning to still be on mid-day break) but surprised how much I enjoyed it - and some unique elements like the Mary Poppins and Burt part and the animatronic Simba.

Love how while riding Autopia your DH had to handle the ray gun while yours son drove!

Some great shots of Mickey's fun wheel by your DH!

Cars Land, especially at night, is so photogenic!

It definitely surprised both of us, and was a great reminder for him how good deeds can be rewarded.

It's no FoF, but it's a great little daytime parade! The music is pretty catchy, and I love that it has lots of characters that you don't normally see in Disney parades.

I can't believe I didn't notice that! :rotfl2: You're the second to notice & post! It is a pretty funny pose.

Cars Land is totally amazing during the day, but it really comes alive at night. So beautiful!

That trick always works. :rotfl2:

Absolutely! Give that boy a steering wheel and you can convince him to do almost anything.

Cool! I'm glad that he was trying to be helpful and responsible, but you just can't beat that little extra bit of pixie dust that rewarded his good deed!

Exactly. He was proud enough that I had praised him verbally for wanting to put the blaster back, but the reward from the CM put it over the top for him!

Looks like a fun show! I'm glad you stumbled across it!

It was really perfect timing that we sat down to eat just a few minutes before it started. We loved it!

Um... no. I think I can tolerate a few more.

Good thing, because they won't be the last!

Looks like a fun day! I can't blame you for walking. I'd have totally done the same myself. It does feel faster even if it might not actually be faster.

I am all about that mental satisfaction. As long as I'm continuing to move, I'm good, even if it takes longer than just standing there!!

We didn't realize they did shows either so it was a great surprise! I remember once eating at the WDW version and seeing a show, but it's a very vague memory. I would definitely check it out if you can. It will probably be different but hopefully just as entertaining!

I have never seen the movie and have not a single clue what it's about, so the attraction is pretty lost on me. But it's a fun dark ride. Hopefully it makes more sense having seen the movie. Let me know if I should watch it before our next trip to DL. lol

Oh my gosh, I still love Who Framed Roger Rabbit! I remember watching it hundreds of times as a kid. I love that DL still has him represented in the park.

Regarding Ichabod and Mr. Toad - my answer to whether you should see it doesn't require riding the ride - I would say NO to the Mr. Toad segment - it's quite terrible. While I imagine it somewhat clarifies the characters in the ride - the "story" of the ride doesn't really match up at all with the story in the movie. In the movie, Toad is accused of stealing a car, and he goes to jail - it turns out he's been framed, and his friends work to prove his innocence - even though he's pretty much an a---hole. The "Wild Ride" I guess depicts the ride he takes in the car - which is not seen at all in the movie. His trial for stealing the car is in both the ride and the movie but the whole section at the end with going to hell is not anywhere in the movie. I think the most interesting thing about the movie is the fact that the bad guys in the movie are the weasels that end up as the henchmen in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?". Some of their behavior in this movie is referenced in Roger Rabbit. (Using guns and knives. Traveling in packs in motor cars.)

Much of the Ichabod segment isn't great either- but the last 20 minutes is. I remember as a kid watching it on the Wonderful World of Disney. (Yes - Walt Disney still showed up on Sunday nights in the 70s, even after he was dead. As a kid - I didn't even know!) They would always show the Ichabod vs Headless Horseman portion - and it would scare the bejesus out of me as a kid. It's not really that scary, but really well done. It's hard to believe this moie -the last of the "combined shorts" movies of the 1940s - was followed by Cinderella, which so much vastly a superior movie to this one. (Between Bambi and Cinderella there were 7 "features" that were made up of shorts like "Saludos Amigos" and "Make Mine Music". Song of the South was in there too - but only about 30 mintues of that is animated.)

Day 5: Wednesday March 4th

The next morning, we were awakened at 6:30 am again. This time, not because of DS, but his daycare calling to see why he had not been there in a few days even though I had told the director he would be out for a week before we left. Annoying!!

Since we were up, DH went out to get breakfast from Winchell’s. We don’t have those here, so he had found out about it and wanted to try their donuts. And then it finally made sense to me why the two cop donuts in Wreck-It Ralph are named Duncan & Winchell! He said he felt ridiculous in there ordering because everyone else seemed to be regulars who knew what they wanted while he was looking around to pick out different flavors to make up a dozen. Then once he finally picked out 12 donuts, the lady kept looking at him until she told him when you buy a dozen you get 2 more free! Lol

After breakfast, we got dressed and in the car to make the drive out to Carlsbad to visit Legoland for the day. We had gone through many different options when trying to decide what to do for our 6th day since the longest length of DL park hopper you can buy is 5 days. We considered an AP, and even a Premier AP since we knew we had 2 WDW trips coming up. We decided against the Premier because I didn’t want to have wasted all that money if something had gone wrong with my pregnancy/delivery or DD that would cause us to have to cancel our October trip, and a regular AP didn’t really make sense for just one extra day. Universal Hollywood was an option because DS really loves Transformers, but looking at the attractions, there was literally only one or two things I could do, so that seemed like a waste. Finally, we settled on Legoland, and it ended up being a great decision as DS was the perfect age for it. I might even say he enjoyed Legoland more than Disneyland! I’m glad we ended up doing it here though because I don’t see ever being willing to take a day away from Disney World and Universal when we are in Orlando to go to Legoland.

Anyway, it took us about an hour to get there from our resort, and we arrived about 15 minutes prior to opening. Compared to Disneyland, Legoland was a ghost town!

We hadn’t really done a ton of research of where to go first, so we just started walking and came first across Safari Trek. The cars only fit 2 people so I decided to ride with DS and he “drove” us around to see all the different Lego animals out on safari.

From there, we just kind of followed the pathway to see where it would lead us next. There was a dinosaur attraction that I think was closed? Or maybe they just had these random dinosaurs out in the bushes, I don’t remember. But DS loves dinosaurs, so photos had to be taken!

The next thing we came upon was the Duplo play area. Of course DS saw this and immediately wanted to go in and play. We tried to convince him to go ride some more stuff and come back to this later, but he really wanted to play and the park seemed empty enough so we let him go in for a little while with the understanding that when we said it was time to go, it was time to go.

I mean, how can you walk past something like this and tell them they can’t play right now??

There was also a little train ride back there, and we walked up just as it looked like they had filled up and were ready to go. But then the CM (what are they called there???) asked if he wanted to ride up front, and of course that was met with a resounding YES from DS!

Again, this one could only be ridden by 2 people, and it also may have had a pregnancy warning. Either way, DH and DS rode together, and thank goodness because DH had to pedal the car the whole way around the track. No thanks!

After that, DS wanted to go over and do the Jr. Driving School. It was really cute watching the little ones drive themselves around, and luckily they had someone there to help them when they inevitably got stuck against a wall.

Right next to the Driving School was the Sky Patrol, which featured helicopter vehicles from different rescue squads like fire, police, coast guard, etc. Of course DS wanted to ride that! It had a pregnancy warning so I sat out again. After watching them go, I would have been fine to ride. But it only fit 2 people anyway, so it didn’t really matter. All it did was go up and down!

UP NEXT: Getting Medieval

We are heading to Legoland CA at DD request. We went in 2012 when she was 9 and she loved it, even though she barely rode anything. (She was afraid of almost all the rides.) I am not sure what's going to happen this trip, seeing as she is 12 and realistically has outgrown Legoland. However, we are spending two nights nearby (Not at the Legoland hotel, but really close by at the Hilton GVC MarBrisa.) so I think it will be a pretty easygoing end to our trip.

It looks like you guys had a really good time!

We went to Legoland Florida this summer when we were visiting SIL who lives in Cocoa. I agree that it was cute and perfect for the preschool age. But I would never want to take a day away from Disney for another trip.

It looks like DS had a great time! All of the play areas are really nice.

I'm glad that they don't make everything there with Legos.

Mm those donuts look good.

Sounds like a fun day so far at LegoLand! Sometimes I bet it's nice to go to a theme park that's a little more laid back than Disney! So many cute pictures :)

While DL tends to be more laidback than WDW, Legoland was definitely even more so. I imagine it will definitely be a nice way to end the trip! Hopefully DD still enjoys it! And it will be nice to stay closer. The drive back was brutal with traffic.

We went to Legoland Florida this summer when we were visiting SIL who lives in Cocoa. I agree that it was cute and perfect for the preschool age. But I would never want to take a day away from Disney for another trip.

It looks like DS had a great time! All of the play areas are really nice.

Super cute picture!

I was glad we got to experience it at least once, but I'm really glad we didn't take time away from WDW to do it. And I'm glad this was the particular trip we chose to try it out because DS was truly at the golden age to enjoy pretty much everything they had there.

Thanks, it's one of my favorites from that day! He realllllllly loves dinosaurs.

Looks like fun time at Legoland but my goodness the crowds! ;)

Some of the rides look not so impressive but can see why kids like it and great they have so many play areas

Ha! I know, right?! We were pretty lucky with the crowds, although I imagine it's probably like that most of the year outside of weekends and holidays. It was really perfect though to get a chance to experience everything we wanted to do in just one day.

It was definitely perfect for those little ones that don't really know the difference and thing everything is exciting.

How awesome that they did that! Great way to reinforce doing the right thing. :thumbsup2

We were both so surprised, but it was even better reinforcement for DS than just what I could give him. He was so excited to have that blaster!

I have heard good things about that show. So cool that you happened to catch it!

Gorgeous pics (as usual)!

Nope. Never. Can't get sick of Carsland at night. :sad2:

Glad to hear that! Because DH sure didn't get tired of photographing it!

:headache: Well, that's awfully annoying.

The office at his old daycare was soooo disorganized, so it sure didn't surprise me. But what an annoyance!

Cute! Our company owners bought everyone at work donuts on Friday and I think we all looked about like that when we saw them too. :rotfl:

Very interesting to see more about Legoland CA. I think our likely trip will be a bit shorter, so probably not going to get there (spend all our time at Disneyland), but still good to know what it's like.

Oh absolutely, if you have a short trip, focus on Disneyland! There is so much crammed into just those two parks that it definitely takes some time to see all or at least most of it. Having 6 days and only able to get tickets for 5 gave us a good excuse to check out something else in the area. One of these days I want to spend two or three weeks visiting all different parts of California!

Well, at least they didn't call at 6:30 am Louisiana time... :sad2:

I was annoyed being woken up so early, but had they called at 6:30 Louisiana time I probably would have had a few choice words for her!!

Well, not very user friendly if you don't know what you're doing, but the donuts look good! I'm glad it was a successful breakfast.

Haha so true!! DH said the lady was nice but she was looking at him like he should know the routine. I guess a lot of their customers are regulars.

Who isn't excited about some good donuts?

Makes a lot of sense. I'm glad it worked out so that you could check it out.

It really worked out perfectly, and it was one of the highlights of the trip for DS.

And the animals are slightly more active and photogenic than the lions on Kilimanjaro Safari.

They were definitely always camera ready!

Hmmm... I wonder where they ever came up with the idea for a ride like this...

I love how a lot of them just have this resemblance to the Disney version but are just different enough.

Exactly!

I'm glad that they don't make everything there with Legos.

Oh Lord, I can only imagine.... lol

:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

Let me guess, you sail past the backside of water, right?

No, but that would sure be an interesting way to spice it up! From where I was sitting it looked pretty boring. lol

I just keep seeing that in everything there. So many similarities, yet just different enough to make it work.

See!!! They're even going to have a Star Wars Land before Disney!:rotfl2:

Oh yes, I imagine it will be ready LONG before Disney!!!

Mm those donuts look good.

Sounds like a fun day so far at LegoLand! Sometimes I bet it's nice to go to a theme park that's a little more laid back than Disney! So many cute pictures :)

They were really yummy!

Although Disneyland had not been super crowded for us that week, it was definitely nice to go visit another park that didn't require a plan and that we could walk on to everything because the crowds were so so low.

Day 5 Continued: Wednesday March 4th

We ended up in the medieval area, Castle Hill, and there is a snack there that we just had to try!

Granny’s Apple Fries: warm Granny Smith apple fries dusted with cinnamon and sugar with a vanilla cream dipping sauce.

OH. MY. GOSH! These were delicious!!! Luckily for us, DS didn’t enjoy them and wanted goldfish instead, so DH and I only had to fight each other for them.

There was a huge playset nearby called Hideaway Hills, so DS went to go burn off some energy on the net climbing walls, stairs, and long slides.

There is another ride there that DS could only go on by himself called The Royal Joust. He enjoyed it a lot, but it definitely made me appreciate Disney parks even more. It’s just not as fun watching your child have to have fun by himself because no one can ride with him!

DH decided he wanted to go on Knights’ Tournament next. It’s a motion simulator on an open air steel arm and you get to choose the level of intensity you want. Kind of like Sum of All Thrills, but you don't get to design the track. He of course opted for the most extreme Level 5 which went upside down and all around!

Day 5 Continued: Wednesday March 4th

We came upon some big slide ride called Dune Raiders that DS wanted to do. It reminded me a lot of the big slides they would have at our school fair every year where you rode down in a potato sack. He went on that a couple times because there was no wait, and I’m sure to him, that was a big thrill ride!

There was an airplane ride right there called Cargo Ace that again, had a pregnancy warning that probably wasn’t necessary. The problem with these rides with warnings was that because we had never been on them and we sometimes walked up between ride cycles, they were able to get on without us seeing what they actually do, so I never knew if it was okay to ride or not until they already had.

Finally, we were ready to stop for some lunch. We ended up at the Pizza & Pasta Buffet.

by disneymom1024, on Flickr

The food and selection was really good! In addition to the obvious pizza & pasta offerings, they had breadsticks, a salad bar, and desserts. It was pretty expensive, but we all ate a lot, including DS who usually doesn’t eat much. Plus, the people working there were SO nice! Every time I went to the buffet, the different cooks working behind and bringing out more food were asking me how everything tasted, if we were enjoying our day, could they help us with anything, etc. And it didn’t seem forced at all, they just were really friendly and personable!

We finished up lunch around 1:30 and headed back to where we had been before lunch for DS to get some playtime inside the Pharaoh’s Revenge playset. It was 2 levels with cannons that would shoot foam balls all over the place, so of course, it was a huge hit!

Once we got him out of there, they went on Lost Kingdom Adventure, a shooting ride. It had a pregnancy warning, so I sat out. But once they came out, DH said it was super slow moving with nothing at all jarring, so since DS wanted to ride again we all went a second time. It was tamer than Buzz Lightyear!

After that we headed over to Bionic Blaster, a spinning ride similar to the tea cups. For some reason I decided this was a good idea! Lol It actually wasn’t that bad, but spinning rides are not my favorite.

We passed the Aqua Zone Wave Racers and watched them go around once since DS was not too sure about riding. After watching a rotation he decided to give it a try so they went on that next.

by disneymom1024, on Flickr

It’s basically a wave runner and they all start out against the platform, but as it starts spinning around, they swing out from the platform and can get a bit of air on top of the waves! Their feet got a little wet on this one but it wasn’t a soaker.

After the Wave Racers, we were pretty much done with all of the rides DS could do, but there was still a whole section of the park we wanted to check out.

UP NEXT: The World in Minature

PS: Check out my new ticker! Yes, we are nuts and having JUST returned from a week long October trip, we are going again to see the Osborne Lights before they disappear!

Hey - good for you getting to go back and see the lights - but I thought you are going again in February? Geez, how do you get so much time off?

I think you guys went the opposite way around Legoland that we did. We looped around the other way, and once we got to the water park, that was pretty much as far as we got. I remember that Joust ride as it was one of the few rides that DD would ride. We also rode the Pharoah's Tomb ride, and yes, agree it was a lame version of Buzz Lightyear! As I look at your pictures, I am not really looking forward to going back there that much - and I love legos. I'd way rather stay longer at Disney World. The things we do for our kids!

Yeah those apples fries need to get in my stomach like NOW! :rotfl: Looks so yummy!

I used to love those potato sack slides. I'm glad DS could enjoy it multiple times!

More fun pictures, I'm glad you all were having fun!

Omgosh another trip?? YAY!!!

Haha yes, we are going in February! I actually have to craft these trips very well to not actually be taking time off. October fell during my maternity leave so I was already using my PTO. But I still had some leftover when I came back and will have enough for the week in February. This upcoming short trip is going to be over the weekend after Thanksgiving. Our clinic is closed Thursday and Friday, so I'm not taking any extra time. DH has tons of vacation time saved up that he has to use before the end of the year, so it's not a big deal for him either.

I'm pretty sure the whole water park part was closed when we were there, so we didn't get to see any of that. I totally feel you. It was fun to do once, but I think I'd be balking if the suggestion came up to do it again anytime soon! I'd much prefer more Disney time!

They were soooooo good! We should have gotten 2!!

I remember loving those as a kid, and DS loved catching some air on them too.

Those APs... they are so dangerous!!! :rolleyes1
