Men's Hairstyle

What is with the men's hairstyle where the sides are cut close but the top is left long? And where did it's popularity come from? I know this hairstyle is not necessarily new but I had hoped it would go away by now.

Many wear a beard with that hairstyle too. And the top of the hair is combed over, usually young 30's it seems. Looks odd.

My son has that haircut, as do about 20 other young'ish guys I know. It's been popularized by a hip hop/rap artist named Macklemore.

Thanks, I figured that there was someone well known who popularized the style. No offense to your son, I am just old and about as far from hip hop/rap as you can get.

:rotfl2:LOL - absolutely no offence taken, I think it looks kind of stupid! I'm not exactly on the cutting edge of trends in either fashion or music, and I like to mess with my kid by referring to the hair cut as the McIlroy, which starts him ranting about how embarrassingly out of touch I am. ;)

I thought it was just called "short back and sides"

Short back and sides is a bit of an understatement...

It's called an undercut, razor fade, or as some folks refer to it the "hipster fade". I first noticed it gaining in popularity around 2011/2012.

It also gained mementum after the Netflix original series "Peaky Blinders" was released (based in 1920s England):

I may be in the minority here on TheDis, but I find it attractive (my fiance has had this haircut, with a beard, for years). Then again, I am 31 years old, so I'm in the target demographic, lol.

I'm in the target demographic too (32) and have always thought it looked ridiculous but I'm sure there are many things I like that others find ridiculous so it's really all about personal taste.

I mentally refer to this style as a reverse mullet anyway lol.

I'm not from the 1950's, but I totally have a 50's haircut, and always have. It's just like my Grandfather's was. I don't really know what it's called, just medium-short and neat, parted on the left. Anything else in men's hairstyles is just a trend as far as I'm concerned.

It's a classic haircut.

My son has this haircut. He plays soccer and its pretty popular. Think David Beckham.
