Long Island Disers!

:woohoo::yay: DH won tickets this morning from The Shark (94.3) to see Def Leppard at Jones Beach in July! He's still shocked that he got through and won. I like Def Leppard's music as well, and I owe him a concert (or more) after all the times he went with me to see Duran Duran through the years. Looking forward to going! We haven't been to a concert at Jones Beach in ages!

Congrats! Love Jones Beach concerts, haven't been in a while myself. My favorite memory there was a Don Henley concert when a huge storm cloud rolled over the arena during the show. It was scary and beautiful at the same time!

We went to see Elvis Costello at Jones Beach and it also rained towards the end of the show. I don't think I've ever seen anyone do as many encores as he did during the rain or no rain for that matter, lol.

Thanks to all who helped with finding caves a couple of months ago.
We made the gala event of the film festival.
Here was our film. We were assigned making a sequel of the myth of Tiamat and Morduk in prehistoric time
Here are a couple of the bigger winners of the night.
I think the description gives their assignment. I haven't seen the films that did not make the gala yet but the one's that made it were amazing.
You can see that you were pretty much do whatever you wanted as long as it dealt with the myth, your time period and Prequel, sequel, reboot that you were issued.
Another couple Enlightment and Janice and the Golden Fleece were really good as well but they had good deal of cursing so I did not put here. You can find it searching sfp12 enlightment.

Hows everyones summer going? I do wish it would be more sunny for sure. Both my neighbors have pools and I dont think they have barely been in them.

My personal summer is not going well but such is life. I was spending too much time at my home away from home, aka stony brook hospital er, and doctors etc. thanks to the wonderful huge blood clot in my leg which caused us to cancel our disney vacation too. sigh, sigh. And I get to go back to the hosp. again next month for some cancer check up stuff. oh joy.

The only thing I did was go to the movies with dh and see Jurassic Park and then go with one of the ds when he had a day off from work because he wanted to see Inside Out.

Check in when you can and hope everyone is having a good summer.

Sorry to hear your summer hasn't started off very well. That really stinks!
We've been going to lacrosse tournaments and this week camped up at Wildwood State Park. The kids' sports schedules haven't slowed down AT ALL. Oh well, they'll only be young once I suppose.

Can someone recommend a reasonably priced landscaper in the Brookhaven township area to cut the lawn and trim hedges? We're living in my FIL's house (he resides in another house). Due to my seasonal allergies I'm unable to maintain the lawn and hedges. DH's asthma has been acting up a bit lately and can't do it either. My FIL is in his late 80's and has tried to maintain it. He's had someone he knew try and do it over the years, but he has been very unreliable. We need to find a landscaper but I don't know what they charge.

For the record, I have tried over the years to rake and do the hedges. But my seasonal allergies keep me from continuing it even with medication.

Thanks :)

Keep an eye out on Wed, Thurs and Friday mornings and afternoons. I find that is when my neighborhood is filled with landscapers.

DH and I were just talking about it the other night...we've paid $25 a week for 20 years! 2 different houses with different amounts of lawn.

Usually there is some type of fall and spring clean up for an additional fee....could be $100 or much much more depending on the property.

Yes. Usually they clean up sometime in April. Then it is $25 a week to cut, edge, blow from May through the end of October. November is fall clean up time.

there are so many landscaping companies out there. Avoid the ones from the high end nurseries, they can be $$$$$$.

Thanks so much for the advice. I completely forgot about fall clean-up. My mind's been on summer.

You don't have to get everything. If you only want weekly cuts, just tell them that. (they may charge a little more per week, who knows?)
My old landscaper (he sold last year) was great. He would trip a few bushes here and there if I asked him to...never charged extra.

If you need anything else done throughout the season, just ask for a price.

So just when I thought the summer couldnt get any worse,lol....
I just got a summons for Grand Jury Duty next month in Riverhead. It says its suppose to be for 4 weeks!!!!! That would interfere with 2 drs. appts. I have in sept. and testing too.

Anyone ever do this.???? I have done the regular jury duty and just called in once and had to show up once, but this is different of course. I dont want to postpone it. I just want to get it over with. But since I have the blood clot I am going to have to take my wheelchair and put my foot up I guess. Worse my memory is not good because of the radiation and I also cant turn my neck good to look and I am deaf in my R ear too, so I think I am going to get the most pathetic juror award for sure!!! lol.

I dont want to cancel it because I want to go to Food and Wine in Oct. and we always go in December too and since I already had to cancel our May trip its about the only thing I am looking forward to right now.

Hope everyones summer is going well. Its a hot one for sure this week!

What does everyone think of the news that all the Pathmarks and Waldbaums are closing by December??
I think they said 4,000 people will lose their jobs, wow, that is a lot for sure.
I never went to Pathmark because it was always dirty looking in there. I only went to Waldbaums when I was looking for a certain brand that I couldnt find in other stores. Waldbaums prices were always on the high side.

Never shop in Pathmark. I agree - always look dirty to me. Waldbaums I also would use when they had something on sale. Went their today for soda on sale but as happens often with Waldbaums the soda was outdated.

I'm going to miss our local Waldbaum's. We could walk to it, so it was great when all you needed was bread or milk. My mom loved it, and my nephews always loved going there with her - they used to tease her it was a "religious experience". It was a great store, always well stocked and clean and the employees were so nice. It's not going to be the same. And of course, now there will be almost 4000 unemployed, that is really sad. And without severance after the unions helped them stay in business after the other bankruptcy in 2010. Sad all around.

Apparently I'm living under a rock. I had no idea! I've been shopping at Stop n Shop though because of the gas points so I haven't been to my Waldbaum's in a while. And Pathmark...forget it! I stopped shopping there when I ended up with meal moths in a container of oats. They contaminated my whole pantry and were a nightmare to get rid of!

This thread is so quiet. Hope everyone is enjoying the fall.

Where is everyones favorite fall place to go to? We usually go to Windy Acres. Not the greatest but I go there more for the food - the caramel apple pie is the best and of course the roasted corn, caramel apples and sometimes popcorn etc, Seems all my ds do is eat when we go there.

Tonight they went to the new Chick Fil A in PJS. They said the line was long. They actually went to the soft opening over the week end. They saw it poeted on social media. They got a free sand. then and coupons that they used today. They brought me back a salad. It was ok. I also had a choc. shake and that was good. They said it was crazy busy there.

Finally doing my Disney countdown, 12 days and counting!

You would not believe the traffic on the PJ corridor (aka 347 112 to Old Town) There was a person taking order for the cars on the side of the road when I went to work around 3:30 Really backed up for that time of the day.

Ha! My countdown is 11 now. It's a little bitter sweet for us. We own at VWL and don't plan to go back until the work is done, which should be in about 19 months. We decided to take a Disney cruise out of NY next October.
