Official thread to keep track of GTY cabins ASSIGNED

If the 4E balcony is smaller than the 5E (is it? I booked 5E without knowing what I booked, I chose this one because it was the least expensive verandah room category available), why is this considered an upgrade?

Because 4 is a higher category than 5.

That I understand... but what are the differences between the two of them?

I believe all the 5Es are aft with an extended verandah. That's what we have.

I THINK, I'm not sure, that the 4Es also have an extended verandah but they're on the sides of the ship. People can see you from above on your verandah.

The lower the category number the more "premium" they consider it. Center of ship, close to everything. Etc.

Someone please tell me if I've miscommunicated that. :o

I've stayed in both categories. The 5E and 4E have the same size and style of interior space in the cabin. The veranda's on both the 5E and 4E are larger than standard verandahs (although the size varies by cabin number). The main differences are 5Es are all aft, on the back/rear of the boat. 4E are all on deck 5 and are foward and aft, but not on the back, back of the boat.

That makes sense... On the videos and pictures I've seen from the 5E, the balcony seems much bigger than the 4E though. Not sure that I wouldn't prefer the 5E. I liked the aft after all. Oh well. We'll see in a few days!

I am 72 days out & just did online check in today. I am hoping to get my GTY assigned soon. This is our first cruise & are currently booked for a 5E GTY reservation on the Disney Dream.

59 days before my cruise... Can't wait for my assignment.

I noticed that the assignment seem to happen from monday to thursday most of the time. Won't hold my breath this week-end!

Cat 4 staterooms are indeed a bit larger than Cat 5 staterooms and some can sleep up to 5 people. There are no Cat 5's that I know of that will sleep 5. The Cat 4's have extra square footage that allows a small Murphy bed to be pulled down (if needed) that goes across the verandah door & windows.

Category 4 staterooms are Deluxe Family Staterooms while Category 5 are Deluxe Staterooms. The family staterooms are bigger inside and (mostly) have round tubs.

4e does not have round tubs and the inside space is the same size as a cat. 5. The balcony is deeper.

According to the website, that info is incorrect. 4E is bigger and could have a round tub.

As for the balcony, I believe the size of it really depends of the room you get: while the 5E would be less deep, some of them are actually bigger than 4E. But not all of them.

I've stayed in two 4E rooms and one 5e. The 4e and 5e stateroom interiors were exactly the same. No round tubs. Both have larger balconies. My 5e 9176 had a very deep and wide balcony. It was huge. One of my 4e rooms 5150 had a deep balcony and it was double wide. My other 4e (can't remember the number) had a deep balcony with a standard width.

56 days before the cruise... Still no assignment this time. :confused3 (during our first cruise in April, we've had it at 56 days, it had appeared in the morning)...

We had the 9176 room and it was an awesome balcony! The rattling of the closet doors and vibrations in the room was a little annoying tho. I would get it again but DH would not.

Many websites are misleading / wrong regarding the 4e interior details. Disappointing they don't correct this info.

True. It's can also be true the other way around technically. The largest non Cat R cabin balcony is a 4e. Some Cat 5e's are larger than most 4e's. So ....

4e does not have round tubs and the inside space is the same size as a cat. 5......

This is correct regardless of what any website indicates.

HTH

Aren't all the aft rooms vibrating? (We had 5866 the last time).

I took my info from the DCL Website. :confused3

Welcome to DCL IT. :sad2:

DCL does add "in some." That's their out I guess. :confused3

It was like that prior to the first Dream sailing. Hopes were it would be fixed after the first sailing.
ETA; I lied. These cabins were cat 5e's initially. They reclassified them at a later date to 4e's unfortunately, leading to confusion.

Some are still hopeful of a fix. :rolleyes1
All the other sites copied DCL wrong info too.
At least this site when you click to expand "details" has a notation indicating the proper interior sqft.
