Attractions that are so bad they're good podcast - rudeness.

I loved the discussion. But I cannot understand for the life of me how Dustin didn't include Tomorrowland Speedway. IMO, it's really the only attraction on property that is awful in every way.

I think the way the decisions swayed towards "which would you least like to see close" skewed the conversation.

Go back and listen to Craig and Shaun's universal "so bad it's good" show.

It follows the criteria Dustin wanted, to be positive.
While they hang crap on some of the rides, they then swung around to say that is what makes them great.

I think the format the show ended up taking could have just had a better title, because I don't think it followed the true sentiment of "so bad it's good"

I enjoyed it nonetheless, regardless of the title, it was a great discussion, and I like hearing different points of view on things, and the DIS does that
well, they aren't yes men/women, and that's what makes it great.

I wasn't part of the Universal show, so I'm in the dark as to how that played out.

That being said....I would not describe any Disney attraction as "so bad it's good".

I think the movie Showgirls is so bad that it's laughable and because it's laughable, it's good...even though that's not the original intent. It's funny "bad".

Rocky Horror Picture Show fits that description as well.....but I believe that was the original intent

I see absolutely nothing in the 4 Disney Parks that I would describe that way.

This leads us back to why I didn't agree with the entire premise.

This is why the conversation played out the way it did.

These are the sentiments that I took away from the show. I remember the Universal Show and although I've never been to Universal, the rides they described truly seem to fit the category of "so bad it's good" just as Kevin describes the phrase.

I think "so bad it's good" doesn't really work because WDW rides are just not like that; they aren't all E tickets, but if they aren't thrilling then at least they are charming, if they aren't technically advanced then they're detailed and immersive, if they aren't modern and edgy then they are nostalgic and sweet.

To me, it seemed that the parameters Dustin actually described didn't match up with the title. By the end of the show the purpose seemed to have shifted. Maybe Distin could have called a time out and renamed the bracket challenge: "best of the lower tier rides" or something:D

I liked the aspect he brought out about which rides have the most potential. That would be interesting to explore: what would you do to move this ride to the next level.

BTW, I hope I don't come across as criticizing anyone on the show. I enjoyed the show (I'm a Dustin fan girl:flower3:) And I don't think Kevin was being rude...it's like being with my friends and we play a silly "would you rather" game. We get stubborn, argue, change the rules, refuse to answer....it's all good fun amongst friends. Right?

I regularly listen to the podcast but don't normally post on here.

I just thought that Kevin was being constantly rude and trying to ruin this episode for the young guy who was hosting it (sorry, can't remember his name - Dustin?). I felt sorry for the host, although he kept it going as best he could.

I don't think Kevin would have pulled that crap had Pete been hosting as he knows Pete wouldn't let him get away with it.

Rant over.

You regularly listen, but unsure of Dustins name and never noticed things like Kevin & Johns dry humor? They always talk like that (playing into the crotchety older man thing).

Dustin is a big boy and he can power through a show with the various types of personalities on the show.
If you listen to the other bracket shows, Kevin & John usually does this stuff. I would hate it if they didn't chime in that way at this point.

----

Moving on from that, I thought this particular show was a hilarious hot mess. Everyone was talking over each other and nobody understood the "rules" of this bracket segment (not even Dustin, really, who was doing his best to keep up his serious-host mode). It was just a trainwreck and I loved every second of it :D

I agree with all of this, and I did enjoy the show.

Has there ever been an attraction or ride at Walt Disney World that you did think was just flat out bad?

My kids love it. *shrug*

I hate the speedway because i can't fit properly in the cars because I'm too tall. I'm 6ft, and i could barely get a good grasp of hitting the gas and driving because of how awkward I fit in there.

I don't think its going anywhere, but i wouldn't mind if it did.

Has there ever been an attraction or ride at Walt Disney World that you did think was just flat out bad?

i think I would have to say the Speedway has the fewest redeeming qualities.

It's loud. The queue takes forever, just because of the nature of the ride. It takes up too much real estate for an attraction with the most tenuous Disney connection. If there is a Disney tie in (other than Cars, which is not how this is themed), I don't see it. It's generic theme park stuff and in my opinion always has been.

There used to be a place in Lake George, NY called Gaslight Village and they had the same attraction...only there you drove a Model A horseless carriage. I remember this from the 1960s.

It also seems to be the most dated technology. I am sure the cars have improved since the park opened, but I can't tell. (This is where I politely explain that if indeed the cars have improved, that I don't need the improvement details.)

All that being said, I still don't think this fits the "so bad it's good" category.

Thank you, Kevin! I agree it's not "so bad, it's good". It's just bad.

There was a daytime "small fireworks and light show" that took place during the DAY a long time ago (earlyi 90's maybe?) in Epcot (Future World) that involved a smoking dragon head coming out of the side of a building. The best things about that show was that Mickey wore a very cool all-colors-silvery-shimmery-irrridescent-looks-kind-of-like-a-tuxedo-jacket outfit. It was called somehthing with "colors" in the name, but I dont' remember what. The fact that it was a LIGHT show that took place during the DAY says it all.......just plain PATHETIC. Did not last long at all, thank God.

Absolutely. Alien Encounter/Stitch's Great Escape is just flat out bad. I've done each exactly one time and would never do either again. It didn't scare me. It didn't creep me out. I just found it to have absolutely zero entertainment quality. The attraction serves no purpose and is a waste of time and space in my mind. I think MK real estate is far too valuable to be devoted to something that a great many people refuse to ever set foot in.

I agree 100%. It's not a bad ride for what it is. It's a pretty good one actually. I have just never understood why it was in Disney World. There is nothing at all Disney about it. Rides just like it can be found in amusement parks across the country. It takes up a huge amount of space. Just imagine what they could do if they suddenly had that big piece of property to develop.

I dislike the bracket shows anyway...

However, Kevin was clearly nor has he ever been rude or discourteous to anyone on the show in my listening years.

Maybe his opinion differs? Sure. Rude? Nope.

Thank you for your opinion on the podcast Kevin . I can honestly say I'm not a fan of the bracket shows either . However I understood where Kevin is coming from . Everyone has emotional attachments to certain things about Disney that make them the best thing in the world. To someone else that same thing may be the most boring ride or attraction they've ever been on. I think the reason most people are such hard-core Disney fans is because of the memories and the emotions experienced there . To say a ride is just bad can't be done definitively . My favorite ride is Pirates of the Caribbean. I don't think it's the most amazing ride in the world technically . However, that was my first ride on my first trip to the Magic Kingdom . In my heart that will always be the most amazing ride ever .

The thing is, there's a difference between bad and "so bad , it's good"
The speedway is just bad.

Well said, and I TOTALLY agree!! I love Figment, and while I lament the original version with all my heart, I still love seeing the little purple guy at ALL in the current version, and am VERY glad it's not the last version (did that all make sense?) :) And I know a LOT of people pan it, but I don't give a fig(ment). :) Hi Kathy!! :) :)

VERY glad it's not the last version
We're always hearing about the current version and the original version. Lots of people forget there was an awful 2nd version in between. The current version is a big improvement over that, though it isn't anywhere close to as good as the original.

My vote for "Bad" (as in really bad) is Bugs Life. Second only to Stitch in which the Imagineers have decided to see how much they can do to torture the audience.

Yes, I know that's not a popular opinion. I have many like that.

Yup - the "last version" I was referring to was actually the horrid "middle one". I had heard (don't know if rumor or not) that I missed Michael Eisner's riding it personally (after hearing all the complaints) by a few days - his reaction was supposedly "fix it". All I can say is - it did close down shortly thereafter to become the "somewhat better but still not good" version it is today.

Jeff - Got to agree - I don't care much for Bugs Life either - one or twice was fun but now -
it's like "meh", and "what's the point?"

I've often thought that if they could combine the beginning segment of the original Imagination (i.e. the circular Dreamfinder part) with the latter half of the current version that they would have the best of both.

I'm with you. I don't enjoy being physically assaulted while I am in an attraction. I don't want things brushing up against me, poking me, tickling me, etc. I don't do It's Tough to Be a Bug for that reason. I wouldn't do Honey I Shrunk the Audience either. I'm fine with 3D. I love the Muppets. I love PhilharMagic. I just don't enjoy the ones where stuff is actually happening to me (other than a squirt of water or a scent).
