Official 2016 5th Anniversary Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend!

I'm still waiting for the Rock'n'Roll Marathon page to confirm dates for Portland Oregon 2016. Since we are driving up the west coast after Tink with a couple of days in Portland the following weekend, it would be awesome if the dates line up.

There are rumors being posted on the RnR Portland Facebook page that this run will cancelled due to low turnouts. I would take a look on the Facebook page before planning a trip up the coast hoping to do a race that may become cancelled.

Warning to anyone thinking of signing up for this one - I was signed up for RnR Cleveland last year and they canceled the event a little less than a month before the race. So it DOES happen. :sad2:

Another thought for Portland, I have gone to The Portland Marathon on the first Sunday of October. Great race very well ran and organized. A BOSTON qualifier really neat to see some of those elite runners. I have done the half twice and I'm running the half on October 6 again. Really like how they track you through the race very interesting stats. The food is great after! Check this one out love Portland!

Hi all!
I'll be running the PDC and the 5K! I was wondering if any of you have experience with the Chear Squad. I'm debating getting my mom and sister it since they'll be with me. Is platinum worth it? Since it will be over Mother's day I think I should keep mom comfortable :)

We will not discuss how as I was registering the computer went haywire and by the time things were fixed the price went up. :crazy2: Oh well at least it wasn't a huge amount. I do have a question about the merchandise ordering. I am thinking I want to purchase a couple of items but I am not sure. Is there a way to go back and order things if I change my mind? Also if I purchase it and don't like it when I see it at the expo I can return it right?

I am decidedly signing up for the half! I am terrified and it is several months away. :sad:I figure if this doesn't motivate me to train nothing will. Its amazing the lengths I go to in order to visit DL! :rolleyes1

First off, congrats on signing up for the half! The task is daunting but once you get to training you'll realize it's incredible what you can do. For example I could hardly jog for more than two minutes when I started running back in March and now I can go miles.

That being said while I'm not certain about returns you can purchase merchandise after your initial registration. I just go to My Events on active and there is a link to purchase additional merchandise.

I have heard that you can return pre-purchased items at the expo but have never actually done it myself.

Definitely sign up. My biggest motivation to train for races it the knowledge that I've paid for it, which means I have to do it (because I hate to waste money), and since I have to do it, I'd better be ready. As added motivation for Disney races, the on-course experience is SO awesome that I know I would hate myself if I showed up unprepared and couldn't even enjoy everything around me because I didn't train and was miserable. :confused3

Yesterday. They are at the new price until the 8th. $215 for the half and $355 for PDC.
I'm very surprised then that PDC didn't sell out before the price increase.
So any guesses on when it will actually sell out?

If it helps, I can ask someone I know who helps run the Expo about returning the pre-purchased stuff. I believe you can (I know someone who purchased one of the pre-purchase jackets at SW because someone didn't like it and returned it), but I can definitely try and get a better answer.

And sidenote: I can't believe the half and challenge aren't full yet!
I wonder if people were holding out and waiting to see if SW 1/2 would be offered in WDW. With that being held in April, I wonder if Tink will sell out.

I was actually discussing this with a co-worker who also goes to RunDisney races and while we didn't think most people were waiting for a race that wasn't confirmed we did discuss the possibility of the timing of Tink being switched with Dark Side in 2017 since that would put Dark Side around May the Fourth.

Still chugging along at training. Can't remember now if it was here or W/D or Tink but somewhere someone mentioned how they shortened their R/W intervals to 90/30 and it made a world of difference in their performance and actually made their overall times faster. Now, I thought that logically, I'd end up with my times slowing down if I was running 90/30 vs 3/1 like I was doing before. My initial thought was that it seems like you'd be doing less running, but if you think about it- the amount of time you spend running is the same per four minute group. All that changes is how often you take your walk break. Before, I had noticed that I literally could not maintain 4/1 (I was trying to increase my R/W time and that's what lead me to post in the first place) for an entire long run. At that time, my long run was 8 miles. So that person or persons chimed in that it helped them and maybe to give it a try.

So I tried it.

And the results?
this past Tuesday or Wednesday I ran 4.2 miles in 45 minutes. That's a 10:42 pace! My typical pace for a night time short run was about 11:30 or 12!!
And saturday, I upped my miles. Went from 8miles long run to 10 miles. I did 10 miles in 1:45 (or :46, can't remember which) which is about 10:30 pacing!!
I was over the moon thrilled! My long run pacing for Saturday or Sunday mornings was typically in the neighborhood of 13 min/mi before I switched to 90/30.

For comparison, my long run the previous saturday was 8 miles in the same exact time frame. I literally told myself that I would run for time using this new technique and see just how far I got- knowing that I should at least make 8 miles. Well surprise, surprise! I not only made 8 miles in that time, I made 10. Now, around mile 4-6 I still had the mental "*** are you doing to me?" moment, but using this new interval did not lead me to having to get to 1.5 miles before my body felt 'broken in' and ready to run. It literally took me maybe 10 minutes or so. BIG difference. Also, I know that most running plans say you should only up your distance by 10% (ie about a mile) on long runs; so this was not in keeping with my training plan in that sense, but I did not increase my time spent running so it's kind of a trade off.

So I'm going to stick with this interval for now, and try it again during next weekend's long ru to see what my results are, but initial results are very pleasing.

****apologies to those who are on all three race threads- you will be seeing this post more than once, SORRY*****

I recently changed my intervals too. At first I doing 2/1. Then I read someone doing 30 sec/30 sec intervals with an overall pace for 8 or 9 minutes. So I tried that out and my pace dropped about a minute. Like you, I was running around 11-11:30 (sometimes 12 on a bad day). My pace dropped to 10:15-10:30 after shortening my intervals. I haven't done much training for any of my races because of the heat. But I plan to experiment more with the shorter intervals to find the best one. 30/30 may be too short of a running interval for me I feel so silly stopping to walk after 30 seconds.

Thank you both for providing this info! I have been playing with my intervals for a while, but never lower than 2/1. Hopefully the trend continues and the shorter intervals will work for me too!

Hello! This will be my first Disney Race and I couldn't be more excited :tinker:
I actually had one question regarding the 10k, how is corral placement determined? Is it like the half marathon or a first come first serve at registration?

I believe you can provide proof of time for the 10k and they use that first and then those without a proof of time go after.
