Didn't really know how to word the title of the thread. here's the Skinny, my wife and I are going to DL 10/1 and 10/2 and for the first time are leaving the kids at home. We are AP holders and were wondering if we could use our kids AP's to get additional fast passes? It occurred to me that our kids AP's may have to be scanned at the gate before they could be used to get fast passes. This obviously wouldn't work since the kids won't be with us. Does anyone know how if the AP's need to be scanned at the gate for them to be used that day to acquire fast passes? TIA

Tickets, including APs, must be scanned at the gate in order to be used for fp

It will not work. The pass has to be activated at the gate in order to be used for the FP system.

I just realized that last time we went we went into DL first and then i took the kids into DCA while MIL and DW went and checked out of the hotel. My MIL and DW AP's were never scanned at DCA but i was still able to get FP for them for later. Did this only work because their APs had already been scanned at DL?

Yes. Once they are scanned at either park they work for FP at both parks. If you put an old ticket or unscanned AP in an FP machine it spits out a paper that says the ticket was not used for admission today.

If you want Multiple Fast Pass, stay on sight! Do not try to scam your way into additional FP! Please.

I don't understand what you mean here, could you be more specific? How would staying on sight allow us to get as you say multiple fast passes? And i assume you meant to say stay on site not sight?

I was just about to say the above (for some reason I cannot quote right now) - granted I have not been to DLR in two years but has something changed with onsite guests getting more FP?

I think because Disney owned hotels sometimes offer packages that include FP. For additional rides you can also take advantage of single rider. If you absolutely needs additional FP then the only way to get them is to buy additional tickets for yourself and use both your ticket and your AP in the FP machine.

If you stay ON SITE, you do not have to wait for the "window" to open to obtain Multiple fast pass, as you do IF you stay Off SITE.....
Have you been to Disneyland before?

That's not true. At DLR your ticket or admission is on no way linked to your room reservation.

SOMETIMES Disney runs a deal for hotel stays that is a package and includes ONE extra FP to any attraction per person in your party. But this is not a standard practice, so staying onsite without booking that particular package (when it's available, and it's only for small periods of time once or twice a year and sells out quickly) will not automatically get you more FPs.

I don't think this is true! How wold the FP machines know you are staying on site? You only enter your admission ticket, not your hotel room key!

I did not know that about being able to get as many fast passes as you want when staying on site. That's good to know, thanks! And yes, I have been to DL before, 9 times so far this year but this is the first without the kids. My wife was joking that all our timing will be off because we are used to factoring in the kids when we estimate how long it will take to get somewhere. We're going for my wife's birthday.

You can only get one fast pass, even if you stay on site. You'll just have to deal with one fast pass each like everyone else does. Cheating the system can ruin the experience for other people so please don't.

Staying on site does not entitle guests to get multiple fastpasses. Unless there is a special promotion, you can only get multiple fastpasses for attractions/shows that are not linked in the system. Example: You can get a fastpass for Indiana Jones and the Fantasmic show. After two hours or return time to Indiana Jones you can get another fastpass. At the bottom of your fastpass ticket you'll see a time when you can get the next ticket.

Your other option to minimize wait times is to use single rider, and note that you're not guaranteed to sit together or even in the same car - California Screamin', Matterhorn, etc.

Yeah, thanks, I saw the other responses after i made my last post. all cleared up now.
