Marathon Weekend 2016

Feel pretty good right now, so I am pretty happy. Good luck tomorrow.

Thanks for the well wishes but it didn't go well. I got up early, I headed out on the run. It hurt pretty bad. I wasn't even off my street. I was fighting with myself on whether to just push through or turn around. So, I put all the pieces together and I turned around. I went home and got out the bike. I did 24 miles on the bike.

I have been walking on the side of my foot for about 2 weeks to avoid putting it down flat cuz it hurt to much. So, I am doing the right thing. I struggled with it for a while. I fought as long as I could, and probably too long. Now I am not running anymore until my 1/2 marathon on 9/12. I figure no impact and being off my feet for all those miles for 2 weeks should put me in decent shape to give the 1/2 a valiant effort to improve my time. If 9/12 comes and it still hurts I will skip the race. I HATE even thinking about that, I don't quit. But I need to be in good shape for January. I want to run this race in as little pain as possible and also be able to hit the parks.

After 9/12 I will see how things go. If needed I will just do all my training on the bike and just run the races. 2 hours on the bike will certainly still build up the endurance needed to do the races.

I will also spend some more time on cross training because that has been lacking as well. So that's my new plan.

Sorry to hear the bad news. You did the correct thing by stopping the run and getting on the bike. Hopefully the two weeks resting the foot will be just what you need to recover. I am sure you have tried a ton of things, but thought id mention some other ideas. Frozen water bottle for the arch (Multiple times a day). There is a sock that you can wear at night that pulls up on your foot. Last idea is a piece of equipment called the foot gym. Little device that helps you work on multiple issues with your feet. Oh, and just incase... a new pair of shoes. Hope things improve sooner than later for you. Good luck!

Sorry to hear that. It can be very frustrating not getting out there and feeling stuck in place. Out of curiosity, have you tried (or discussed with your doctor) the possibility of a cortisone shot for your plantars fasciitis? I had trouble with mine a few years ago as a result of playing Ultimate Frisbee. None of the "easy" remedies worked for me (sleeping in boot, exercises, anti-inflammatories, etc). When the podiatrist put that cortisone shot in my foot, the relief was rapid and sustained. I was pain free within a day or two and playing again in less than a week. It has not bothered me since. Just a thought.

Be very, very careful. I had IT Band issues last year and once those were cleared up I ended up with a foot strain - I thought (and the doctor that I eventually saw for it agreed) that it was partially due to my walking around a little weirdly to compensate for the ITB pain. Hope you feel better soon.

Just thought I'd share my latest little running 'win'

I've been struggling with tight muscles in my right leg for a few weeks (and on and off for a few months) but after my last session of dry needling in my quad (which HURT SO MUCH) I completed my longest training run of 20k (about 12.5miles) AND it was on the first day of my family holiday in Spain where it's 90degrees so we were up at 5am to beat the heat but all three of us completed it and my legs felt ok afterwards and I've no pain today! It's been a frustrating few months injury wise but it's so good when things eventually start going your way! :stitch:

I had a little running win this weekend too. It felt like a big win to me though. I finally got below 30 min for my 5k, finishing at 29:35.

I had to ease back on my weekly mileage just due to needing those hours for other aspects of life, so it was a bit of a shock to me that doing that did not kill my stamina. Super impressed with everyone doing long runs and training for the long races and sending positive vibes into the universe for @Waiting2goback

@Pixie Heart What is this monorail crawl that you mentioned? I'll be home way before then, but I'm intrigued!

Just had my first run in a long time in which it was cool outside (~55).
We have had low humidity and morning lows between 60-65 the last few mornings.
I am soooo jealous! I had 75* for a pre-sunrise temp Sat and I was over the moon happy, lol! My normal lately has been 80*+ with a feels like near 90. The feels like was over 100* by the end of my 13 miler two weeks ago. #OVERit :faint:

Thanks for the well wishes but it didn't go well.
I'm sorry :( Sending good thoughts for a speedy recovery!

Yah! Congratulations!! That is a BIG win! I clearly remember the day 5months ago when I got under an hour for the first time in a 10k and it was a MASSIVE win to me! I was so proud of myself I got a little emotional

I hope you celebrated!

I ate Oreo cheesecake in my basement after my daughter went to bed. Completely balanced out all the good my running did, haha!
I also texted everyone I knew, and I'm sure most of them where like "I don't understand why you are texting me about this."

Awwww. I should message you my number - you can always text me! I love hearing this kind of stuff, no matter what time of day!

I haven't tried the frozen water bottle yet but I will pick one up tomorrow when I go to the store. I know about the sock but I can't sleep with anything on my feet so I don't even want to spend the money to try it. I did buy a new pair of shoes and they haven't helped.

I have had cortisone shots in the past for my shoulders. They didn't work for my shoulder and the doctor for my shoulder said cortisone doesn't work for everyone. So, I haven't bothered to try it on my foot because I think the chances are slim it will work. If rest doesn't work I may give it a shot as a last resort.

Congrats on your victory!

And thank you to everyone else that had encouraging words or well wishes. I did a P90X workout this morning. I am already sore. This may not be the way I planned for any of this to happen but I will get to my goal one way or another. :-)

Heads up for anyone looking to book BOG breakfast I have been able to book the 8.05am slot (which was the only one available) both before and after the Marathon weekend. I thought it wasn't supposed to open until 90days out!

Oreo cheesecake is the perfect way to celebrate!!

I'm exactly the same I'm texting everyone so excited and they're like 'oh cool... Is that fast then?' Ugh!!

Add me to the growing list of injuries. Had to cancel my planned POT race because of IT band issues in my left knee and some shin splints in my right leg from overcompensation. I had been hoping to get a sub-2:00 half marathon, but will settle for my previous 2:13. Should still move me up a couple corrals and I have plenty of experience running from corral L if it doesn't.

I think you can book restaurants at 180 days out. Fast passes are 60 days if you're staying on property, 30 days out if you're not staying on property.

Ye we made all of our other reservations at the 180 day mark but at that time you couldn't select the breakfast option for BOG and when I searched online it seemed like this only became available at the 90 day mark but it looks like that's changed now. Makes more sense to have it all the same! :D

Well folks, August is over. Time to post your monthly mileage.

136.06 miles Run / Walk
0 miles Bike
0 miles Swim

I see what you're saying now, I didn't pick up on that lol. I don't know if it's a glitch in the website reservations or if it's Disney holding back some reservations but I have noticed that some restaurants have been randomly showing availability one day, and the next day there are no openings, but a few days later the restaurant has more openings.
Not sure if that's how BOG was with holding back reservations or if breakfast is only at the 90 day mark.

Thanks Keels, If I do good on my race this Sunday I will PM you immediately. And if I don't...we will just pretend like I did :)

Semi-on-thread-topic: Liberty Tree Tavern just opened reservations starting 1/1/16. So if anyone was wanting an added Magic Kingdom meal option for race weekend, you can go get an ADR right now. Maybe some people will start flip flopping their ressies too if they drop something to get LTT. Just a head's up :)
