(2014-2020) Disney's GRAND FLORIDIAN RESORT & SPA + VILLAS Information & Questions

Hi, Maxie! Getting stuck at MK is SO frustrating! I do wish they would complete the walkway to the GF, but I guess they never will since they'd have to build a bridge across the area the Electric Water Pageant equipment is stored:(

I really wish they would do this, even if there was a bridge that couldn't be crossed for a while because of the EWP. I feel that Disney transportation is pretty unreliable at this point, and it makes me stressed when we have an ADR that we need to get to. I'd much prefer the option of walking to the MK.

I have always thought they should build a bridge over that canal. It cant take much time, right? Worse case scenario is the EWP can't run for a little while, and as much as I like the EWP I don't think the majority of people would even realize it isn't running.

It's currently such a tease because the walkway goes a pretty good way towards the GF! Surely it wouldn't cost that much more to complete it!!?? It would definitely be used by a lot of people and would decrease monorail and boat crowds. One can only hope, I guess...just like I'm still hoping for resort specific Pandora charms/beads;)

Sadly, we had to cancel our upcoming GF trip, due to some health issues and doctors appointments (and the inability to get our dog boarded) we couldn't make the trip work, in the last couple of weeks it seemed everything was against us even making the trip at all so though I am sad I saw a cancellation coming. We are hoping to be able to stay at the GF in the future as this was going to be our first stay at the GF.

However, an upside is we were able to move our vacation back a week, but the only resort available was BWI, we've never stayed there either so I'm sure we will enjoy it and at least we are at Disney World.

I just wanted to say how helpful this thread has been for me as a first time GF guest!

I'm sorry you had to cancel your GF stay, but glad you are still able to go to Disney. We've never stayed at BWI, but it is a beautiful resort and gets great reviews. I'm sure you'll have a great time :).

Hi mickeynut, grannyminnie, Dispro and blueskies. :wave2:

Hi Maxie :wave2:

It's nice to "see" you, hope things are going well with you :flower3:.

I have asked this question on the transport forum but I thought you guys would answer me a lot quicker....

Is there a walkway/path from GF to MK?

As others have said, unfortunately there's not :(. It would be nice, though, as the GF is so very close to MK and would be a great way to alleviate the crowds using the monorail and boats!

Hi all!

Just returned from SL! We stayed from 8/23-8/28! The staff was wonderful as always. We stayed in room 6320 which is one of the turret rooms. It was a bit of an inconvenience with the monorail hours and gaspies being closed, but once we got a routine down it was manageable. The CMs were able to get a 4th FP+ as long as it was available. We didn't really need them though as the longest we waited for anything was 15 minutes. Even got to see Anna and Elsa with a 5 min wait time near the end of the night! The wait times were very inflated then so keep that in mind. The meet and greet had a 25 min time posted.
The most exciting part of the trip though was that DBF popped the question! pixiedust:We were able to get the elusive "just engaged" buttons even though they have discontinued them.

I'll answer any questions that I can! Heads up- they were starting to put up the Halloween displays when we left!

Congrats on your engagement! :wizard:

Glad you had a great stay and enjoyed SL :).

We have a reservation at GF SL for December 11-16. This is our first stay at GF. When submitting our room requests is there a certain floor we should request? Thanks! :)

Congrats on your first upcoming GF stay. It's a matter of preference, but I prefer a higher floor. I love going out on the balcony early in the morning and later at night looking out over the resort :goodvibes (or the marina from SL).

I just feel with the monorails getting older, less reliable and more crowded due to the extra DVC rooms now at the resorts that now would be a great time for that walkway to be completed. I would definitely take the walk at night

Very good point. The monorail and the boats were there before the addition of BLT and DVC at the Poly and the GF. Paving a walkway (with bridge) would go a long way to alleviate the congestion, especially right after the fireworks finish.

Hi, Maxie!

Hi, Maxie!

We noticed a huge difference when BLT opened...now it is only worse...much worse.

Hi mmmears. :wave2:

We see a lot of peeps on that walkway at night especially when things are backed up at the MK. They really should put a sign up that tells you the walkway doesn't go anywhere and you will have to turn around and walk all the way back. They did a bench at the end so at least you can rest a bit before the long walk back. :rotfl2:I would love to see resort specific Pandora charms.

The transportation has gotten so bad we even drive to the CR from the GF for dinner...and that is just wrong.

Sorry for the multiple posts...can't get the multiquote to work for me this morning. I keep getting an error message. :confused3

Oh that's just so sad. After all that walking all day, to take that path and find out you have to turn back?

Really? Wow, it really is bad if that's even something people consider... :(

Good Afternoon
Long time no post. I didn't go back and read too many pages.......
Summer of sickness :crutches:, had my first ever ear ache recovered from that and the 2 weeks ago developed a kidney stone. OMG I was in so much pain all I did was :sad:before I went to the ER..Feeling tons better

No real trip planned but I do fantasy plan a trip about once a week! Took me forever to find where they moved the boards UGH!

Hey, ahcupcake!! Long time no "see", but I understand why now....how awful to have more than one sickness over the summer! :faint:

Where are you planning to go on this week's "fantasy trip"? :goodvibes

I completely agree.... Having the ability to walk from the GF would be AMAZING!!!!!

Thinking about the bridge or walkway from the GF to the MK, the bridge would have to be high enough so that the EWP floats would be able to get under the clearance of the bridge. That bridge might interfere with the height of the monorail to accommodate the floats. Just something to think about.

2 years ago, I also found that the buses and monorails were extremely crowded and the GF DVC was not even opened yet. This may turn off a lot of folks from staying for the "convenience" of resort hotels. Disney may have done a disservice to themselves.

While the EWP floats are currently stored in the alley way between the GF and the MK, there is a lot of other space available on the manmade waterways that are Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake -- if Disney really wanted to do this, that wouldn't be a hold up. Also, they don't have to necessarily go up with the bridge, they could build a swing bridge that opens and closes if they want to keep the EWP floats where they currently are stored. It appears to me that Disney just doesn't want people walked to/from the GF/Poly and I don't know why.

Good point, MommyGina.

Interesting thoughts on the situation...sounds like you might have hit the nail on the head!
