Transportation Question - kingdom to kingdom

I need some disney transportation experts. My two kids and I did a "take whatever bus comes first" this afternoon, and ended up at animal kingdom. But, we need to get to magic kingdom tonight. What's the best way? I was thinking maybe bus to GF or poly, then monorail? But I don't know if that's best or, if so, which of these is better. Thanks!!

There has always been park-to-park transportation.

Yup.
Disney offers Park Hopper tickets for sale, and so provides the transportation to allow guests to Hop.

There is "direct" transportation between all the WDW theme parks.

The frequency of departure for each is approximately every 20 minutes, give or take, all day long.
Most routes are via Disney Buses.

Here are the "park-to-park" Disney Transportation direct connections:

MK> Epcot = Monorail to TTC, Switch to 2nd Monorail to Epcot
MK> DHS = Direct Bus
MK> AK= Direct Bus

AK> DHS= Direct Bus
AK> Epcot= Direct Bus
AK> MK= Direct Bus

DHS> MK= Direct Bus
DHS> AK= Direct Bus
DHS> Epcot= Direct Bus (Epcot Front Gate) or Boat (Epcot Intl. Gateway)
......Boats ("Friendships") make 3 interim stops at the Epcot area resorts.

The buses have their destinations shown on them on illuminated signs.
The bus stops at the parks are also marked with signage.

As a rule-of-thumb, allow 40-60 minutes to get from the gates of one park to the gates of another park.

You can take a bus to the the parks from another park. You can not take a bus from the park to downtown Disney. They stopped this to avoid people parking for free at downtown Disney and then taking the free transportation to the parks.

Yup, what everyone else said! You can just take a bus from AK to MK- good thing you asked here first or you would have wasted time going to a resort and then to MK.

I don't know. I've seen a lot of threads where people have been surprised to find out that there's park to park buses.

I agree.
But, there must be some REASON why so many think that there is not (when there always has been.)

True, every time I see one of those posts I wonder why they thought there wasn't, since park hopping would be a lot more difficult if that was the case.

For a long time I was one of those people, and I'm still never really sure where to wait for/find them.

All of the bus destinations and waiting areas (by number) are posted as you approach all of the bus lots, as you are coming from the park gates.

Just look for your destination, and walk to that numbered waiting spot.

And to note - there is even bus service from the Studios to Epcot. Yes, there is the boat and the walkway but one day, my husband and I were tired and hot and wanted the boat but the line was very long (way too long for us to get on the next boat) so we decided to walk it. We went over to the start of the walkway and there was a bus stop right there labeled Epcot and a bus waiting for us. Total relief! We since discovered that bus stop is there always. Disney isn't stupid. If people want to go from the Studios to Epcot and the boat is too full and the people decide to walk and they are tired, they can just get on a bus.
