September 2015 Countdown!

17 days! I'm keeping a close eye on TS Erika!

Me too, but this morning the news said it would glance off the east coast on Monday. Very sad for all those in FL at that time as well as people living in FL. Hopefully that is the last of them for a lonnnng time!

My cousin suprised her DD twice! Once she was in 5th grade & she pulled her out of school at lunch time on Friday before spring break...had big Disney balloons, etc & went to her classroom to pull her & take her. (I'm sure it made other kids sad they weren't going, but my cousin's DH passed a year earlier and this was a "Bring back some smiles" sort of trip. I was 6 months preggers & took my DD9 at the time...best trip we've ever had!!! Because my husband isn't so into the magic.)

The other time she suprised her...years later, my cousin had a boyfriend by then and his son is in the service. She told her daughter they were going to the airport to pick up the boyfriend's son... it was early morning and she didn't pay attention when they drove to "Departures" and got out of the car. Suprise! And pulled their luggage from the trunk.

She's a neat kid & glad she was suprised twice. I considered suprising our little DD6 this trip, but decided to let her in on the planning fun. Maybe next trip!

I have a good friend who is in Melbourne and they're definitely keeping an eye on this storm.

I wish my parents would have surprised me when I was a kid. They told me and my sis months ahead, and used it as an incentive to get good grades. My dad kept joking they would go without us if we didn't keep our grades up.
My parents always did that too, but with chores. It backfired pretty quickly, when my brother said he didn't care, because he didn't want to go anyway. So yeah...definitely not a tactic I intend to use. Too many of my genes are the same as my brother's. I'll probably get a kid just like him!

I was really on the fence about surprising DS, but since he's only 5, he doesn't have a great grasp of time passing. I can't even tell him we're going to visit his grandparents, until a few days before, because he'll ask when we're leaving every 5 minutes. Part of the reason I'm surprising him this time is that I know he'd talk about the trip constantly at school, and that would be distracting.
The other part is that I think it will be much more satisfying as a surprise if we get to leave within a few hours rather than days or months. I think when he's a little older, and can actually help me plan, I'll really enjoy telling him from the beginning, or surprising him a few weeks early, so he can be excited longer.

I think the main reason I can handle the surprise this time is that we just started planning a month ago. My ideal time to plan a trip is over 6 months, in which case, I think I'd need someone to talk to about it. DH doesn't like nonstop Disney talk. So I think he's actually preferring the surprise, because I can't talk about it as much as I'm prone to do. We have a 'code' word that I use if I need to talk about it (used mostly during the initial planning) but otherwise if I talk about it too much, I'm sure DS would figure it out. That kid has the most precise selective hearing I've ever seen!
He's going to absolutely thrilled when he sees the Magic Bands. That's another reason why it's probably good it's a surprise....if he knew about the MagicBands, they probably would have gone missing by now!

I am surprising DD with this girls-only trip and the not talking about it at home has been the hardest part for me too! I planned this very last minute, though, so like you haven't had to keep the secret for long! It's killing me!!!!

I know! He's going to be absolutely thrilled.
There are a few things that have been made easier by him not knowing though. Sometimes we choose things based on what we want rather than what I know he'd choose, if given the choice. For example, we're staying at CSR, instead of a Value resort. If I showed him pictures, he'd pick a Value resort, but keeping his Daddy comfortable is more important, and I know DS will LOVE CSR too. Sometimes he gets attached to things, and even if you explain what's actually going to happen, he still thinks the original plan is happening. So if I told him we were staying at Pop, and showed him all the photos, then we switched and I showed him the photos of CSR, he'd probably still think we were staying at Pop. Then when we got there, he'd ask where the giant "Yo-yo" or whatever was.

I just pulled out the box of MagicBands, and DD went straight for the pink one. DS was right, "baby likes pink."

So as it stands, I have one more week until we head out next Thursday (1 Week) (or 4 more work days). Stopping in Brunswick GA Thursday night and then visiting my in-laws in Florida for 3 days. On Monday 9/7 we will leave in the morning to head to Disney!!! The only thing that is hard is passing Orlando to drive 3 more hours to get to their house. Then of course 3 hours back to get to Disney. I know, I have such problems, lol.

This weekend we finally get to pack. Can't believe it is almost here.

Oh, that is a good one! I LOVE the idea of telling her we will pick someone up, then be the ones really going! I'll think hard about how we would get luggage in the car without her knowing. Im sure she'll want some stuff in her carryon...but really great idea!!

Might? Why not a definite yes or no? :rolleyes1 Way to be vague, Disney!! (unless you're checking in at 7am or something)...:p
I reread the email and it says may and not might, but it might as well say might. I completed all the requirements, but I'm still not convinced that I will get to bypass the front desk. :p We're planning on checking in around 11am at our first resort and 9am at our second resort.

6 more days of work here! Just saw a story on TS Erika on the nightly news - such a bummer for everyone there this coming week - looks like they'll be in for a LOT of rain.

Oh no I'm sure its just one of those 24hr stomach bugs!! I hope it passes very fast!!
Thanks! I hope so too! I know he really hopes so too. He's had it really rough this year. First the hernia surgery at the beginning of the year, then getting rear-ended in his work truck a couple of months ago and now this thing. I feel so bad for him.

Eh...it's just rain, could be a lot worse! A rainy day in Disney is better than being home!! It's all about mindset going into it.

Good attitude! I am not a fan of rain - maybe it's the fact that I grew up in Oregon and got my fill of it a long time ago. Lol. Hope the storm moves through quickly and doesn't affect too much of your trip!
