Am I crazy to think that we can all vacation together happily in one hotel room? At the time of our trip, we'll have a 7 year old and a 5 year old (plus me and DH). We are planning on staying at a value. We've stayed before, but it was pre-kids. I've never stayed off-site, but might be open to it if it makes sense financially.

We are doing 1 room with our twin 5 year olds. The room is mostly for sleep so it typically isn't an issue putting 4 in one room no matter what resort. If you can stay on-site do so, IMO.

When we went, we stayed at POFQ with our then 6 and 4 year old. It was fine. They shared a bed, but generally get along well so that wasn't an issue. Sometimes the room seemed small, but we had a double stroller in there with us. We weren't in it much, basically just to sleep, and we were all so tired from the parks that everyone went right to bed. I think you'll be fine.

We will be staying in a moderate resort with our kids (will be 8 and 5). Personally, I don't think I would be comfortable in the double beds at the value resorts.

I don't see why not. We are a family of 5 that stays all in one room, and one of us is an infant!

We are a family of five and have never had trouble sharing a traditional hotel room. We either 1) request a roll away cot or 2) bring an air mattress or fold up cot for one kiddo and then the other two share the bed. Some hotel rooms have couches or love seats in them that the third daughter will use as well. I should mention, at Disney we obviously don't do that because they are so strict about occupancy. There we stayed at POR and it was just fine.

I think some of it depends on how your kids sleep as well. My daughter can fall asleep during anything, my son on the other hand really struggles if there is anything but darkness and zero distractions. We're offsite in suites in part because of this. They can go to bed and my husband and I don't have to sit in silence in a dark room for 30 to 45 minutes until he can fall asleep. So for us, yes we could do it, but it will be much more enjoyable for all of us if we don't have to.

We learned this lesson when he broke his leg, couldn't put weight on it for months and we had to move his bed into the living room.

Thank you for your input everyone!! Just in the first stages of planning, and I'm thinking about Disney 24/7, ha ha

You'll be fine in a value with 4. We did it before my DD was born. OH and I'm thinking about Disney 24/7 too!!! :yay:

If you are worried about having enough room, you could look into Bonnet Creek. Its as close to WDW as you can get and not be on-site. You will miss out on the WDW perks like extra magic hours and magic express, but its much more room.

All five of us (twins, son, DH and I) have always stayed in one room....all the way from GF, AK, DL, Poly and POR. Never had any unusual problems.

It depends on how much time you plan to spend in your room. And, do you all plan to go to sleep at night at the same time or do you forsee putting the kids to bed much earlier than the adults? We did mix of hotel rooms and 1-bedroom villas on our July trip. At the villas, we "hung" out more and enjoyed the resort. On our hotel room days, we stayed in the park for most of the day.

Do you share a hotel room on other trips? When my kids were young, we could do it. Not ideal, but saved money. Now there is no way I could; we get two rooms since they were about 7 and 9. I have a boy and girl, and my son kicks in his sleep, so it is hard! No one wants to share a bed with him!
Many folks are fine with it, but only you know your family.
I get up early, even on vacation, so make my coffee (value resort doesn't have the coffee maker, but I'm bringing one - other resorts do have them) and take it either in the bathroom or patio, or wherever I can in my jammies, and have my morning routine of coffee and reading the news on my ipad or phone). I try to not wake anyone - I can usually shower and dress and they're just waking up!
I'm sure you'll be fine, long as the double beds work. Most kids are tired out from the excitement of the day, and crash!

At that age I would definitely have them in the same room with me. If you do want a little more space you could always do the suites at All Star Music, they aren't super pricey, they give you two bathrooms, a bedroom and a little kitchenette area with a mini fridge, microwave and coffeepot.

We are a family of 5 and have do 1 room anywhere we can which is basically everywhere! The only place it wasn't pleasant was the family bedroom on the autotrain last year.

In Disney we are all so tired. We nap mid day and we all fall asleep. And after the parks at 10-11 at night it is lights out and everyone is asleep with in minutes.

Did it for many years with both DS. So tired at the end of the day that even we couldn't keep our eyes open. Only used the room for sleeping and didn't spend any time there otherwise.

If each adult sleeps with a kid in a double bed you can do it. DH and I couldn't share a double at Pop and we are average size people.

You certainly could do it depending on if you believe your family will be comfortable...the rooms are small and the beds are too. My hubby doesn't even fit into those beds being tall, (6'7) he would not be able to share one with someone else that's for sure! It doesn't work for my family - hubby & myself like to relax a bit together after the parks. Bonnet Creek is certainly a terrific option with lots of space to spread out. Renting DVC points is also a good option, never tried the suites at All Star Music as the OP suggested - might check them out myself. (as long as the beds aren't tiny!) Also, don't be afraid to look offsite! We've gotten some terrific deals and units that are actually spacious & comfortable.
