"Does this ride have drops?" March 2015 TR *NEW* 1/17 COMPLETE - Final Thoughts

It seemed like in the time we were there, most of the rain had passed over so we were hoping for a pretty dry evening, especially since this was one of the few nights we would have the opportunity to see the fireworks at Disneyland.
You know, every time I commented about the lack of cover at DL, everybody just reminded me that it never rains there. I feel so bad for you guys every time I see you mention the rain!

We also went to check out Luigi’s. Since the ride is closed now to make way for something else, we just used it as a photo op.
So sad... I'm kind of surprised they don't open the Tire store and block off the back door where it led to the ride. The store itself could have made a neat building to walk around in and check out the theming while getting out of the sun for a bit.

And I'm sure they could have turned it into a temporary merchandise shop. I'm shocked they didn't!

While we were hanging out there, a CM came over and noticed DS’s Cars hat and t-shirt, so he chatted with us a bit and gave DS a Cars Land button with DJ on it.
Cool!

I hope you bought that hat! It could be a rare collectors item in 25 years or so!

While DS didn’t come off crying, I don’t think the fast part at the end sat well with him!
Funny how that works... DS didn't like the dark and loud noises inside, but loved the race at the end.

He said no because Mater needed to get to the Cozy Cone, and one of the girls yelled out, “But I already have my selfie stick ready!” SO SO SO glad that we won’t have to deal with those things next time we are in the parks!!!
I'm so glad they banned those things! I'd never even seen one until we went to WDW last December and I never want to see another one again!

I swear, it will take you longer to scroll through those photos than the actual ride takes! Lol
::yes:: That's a true statement!

There we go!
The look of pure joy! :thumbsup2

Aww I'm sorry DS didn't love RSR! But his faces on the others rides are SO adorable, he looks so so happy!

Love the Trolley pics! I'm going to have to try and catch a ride on it!

What great updates! Your photos capture the sheer joy on Paxton's face. He was clearly loving being with Red, riding the bumper cars and Francis’ Ladybug Boogie. Hopefully they will bring some of this great theming to Hollywood Studios. Having been to Disneyland Paris as well what Pixar rides/attractions do you think they should include in Hollywood Studios?

Great updates!! The Cars land area was perfect to revisit - sorry you missed out on Paxton's first big boy ride :( I know the feeling as I'll miss out on Aria's first Big Thunder ride (at DLP) but at least I was able to do 7DMT a ton with her in May (ahem, against pregnancy restrictions).

Flik's land is really great! I couldn't believe how short that Chew Chew train was either, but still a really great area for this age range, love that they have this area. I've never ridden the trolley, what fun!

We were so disappointed about the rain when we were counting on fantastic weather in California! But it was supposed to rain all week, and thankfully it didn't follow through and we had great weather after a couple of soggy days. Luckily we had come prepared with our ponchos and stroller rain cover.

So sad... I'm kind of surprised they don't open the Tire store and block off the back door where it led to the ride. The store itself could have made a neat building to walk around in and check out the theming while getting out of the sun for a bit.

I didn't think of that, but you're totally right! Definitely some missed opportunities there. DS would have loved to walk around inside Luigi's!

Funny how that works... DS didn't like the dark and loud noises inside, but loved the race at the end.

Kids are so funny with what will scare them! He claims to love going fast, but when it comes down to it, he is pretty scared of it.

I'm so glad they banned those things! I'd never even seen one until we went to WDW last December and I never want to see another one again!

We saw them a little in DL, but it was actually REALLY bad in Europe! There were guys selling them every 5 feet and even more people using them all over the cities in Italy we visited. I'm glad I won't have to deal with them in WDW. They are seriously annoying! Now if they could just do something about those people holding up iPads to record video...

::yes:: That's a true statement!

It's a crime to wait longer than 5 minutes for that attraction!

The look of pure joy! :thumbsup2

He really enjoyed that one!

I think both DH and I knew in the backs of our minds that he was not going to be a huge fan of RSR but I was hoping all of the indoor portion with the cars would win him over. Oh well, he loved so many other things that it was okay.

Definitely try to ride the trolley, it's such a fun way to get through the park!!

It was so fun to see him having such an amazing time!

DL and DLP have some amazing Pixar attractions! We loved Ratatouille and Crush's Coaster in DLP, and I would love to see something similar to RSR and the Monsters Inc ride from DL. But it would be even better if they came up with something brand new and exclusive to DHS to keep it unique.

It was disappointing for sure, but it was still fun to see his reaction to Cars Land in general. Hopefully I can get him on 7DMT or Test Track when we go in October. I would love to get to experience one of those with him first while DH waits with DD so that we have something special just the two of us.

We spent A LOT of time in Bug's Land over the course of the week, but it was an instant toddler pleaser and rarely had long waits, so it was a no brainer when the rest of the park was busy.

Wow, Cars Land looks amazing! I love that the cars can talk/sing/move. And it seems like DS really loved every bit of it...except RSR. I'm sorry he didn't enjoy that!

The trolley car looks like lots of fun!

congratulations on the arrival of your daughter - she is beautiful! So glad that you son is into her and being a good big brother. I know when our latest was born we had to watch at some points that my son didn't lover her "too much" - but your son seems very gentle in all the pictures.

that's cute that the CM gave your son the button, very cool! Little moments like that do go far

Aw, sorry you missed his first ride on RSR ... sorry he didn't like it better, at least he liked the indoor parts I guess. DH got some great pictures from that part (went through them quickly to minimize spoilers for me though)

Even though there is no way my son is going to be tall enough to ride RSR, he is going to flip at meeting the cars - especially Big Red as Fire Engines are above regular cars in his ranking of vehicles

That Chew Chew Ride looks fun, and your son looks so happy on the lady bug ride. Love this pictures:

Congrats on the addition, she is precious. Hope you are feeling well. Glad Paxton is adjusting so well. All of your pictures are amazing, the excitement on Paxtons face is priceless. You make me sad that we cancelled our October trip. We booked our condo for our February trip though :) We havent totally decided if we are going to go to Disney, but 11 days in Orlando without Disney could be tough, but getting away from the snow alone will make the trip amazing. I'm convinced if we just do Sea World we could squeeze in a first trip to Disneyland before baby boy turns 2...who knows. haha. i jsut dont know if I can wait that long for babies first trip.

You know, I completely agree that the Disneyland CMs seem much more willing to make magic for the guests than at WDW, and it really does make things more special, even if it's something small like a button! Something small can really mean so much.

Oh man, it would be sad to miss out on RSR. But hey, at least you got a beautiful little baby out of the deal. ;)

The Red Car Trolley really does feel so classic California. Love it!

The cars in Cars Land are truly awesome. It's so fun to just see them rolling down the street! Although he was not the biggest fan of RSR, DS definitely enjoyed himself in Cars Land!

Thanks so much! He is really loving being a big brother, and he isn't too rough, but he does want to hug and kiss on her when he is all sweaty and nasty after playing outside! lol

It was a bummer to miss out on riding RSR with him for the first time, but it was great enough to see his expression as we enjoyed the rest of Cars Land! Peter will definitely enjoy meeting the Cars, especially Red. They are so much more fun and interesting than Lightning & Mater at Hollywood Studios!

Congrats on the addition, she is precious. Hope you are feeling well. Glad Paxton is adjusting so well. All of your pictures are amazing, the excitement on Paxtons face is priceless. Thank you so much! It has been an adjustment to having 2 kids in the house, DS starting school, etc. but it's been pretty good.

Tough decision! It will be hard to be in the vicinity of Disney World for so long and avoid it. But the lure of Disneyland can be strong too!

The Red Car Trolley really does feel so classic California. Love it!

I don't know what it is about Disneyland CM's that sets them apart, but they are really awesome. Not that we haven't experience great ones at WDW, but it just seems to be a higher concentration of them in Disneyland. DS absolutely LOVED that button and was always asking where it was during the trip, then we made it into a magnet once we got home.

She was definitely worth missing the ride for. :goodvibes I just hope it won't be too long before we get back to DL because it was tough missing out on so many favorites and not knowing when you will be back again!

The Red Car Trolley is such a simple but fantastic addition to DCA with the opening of Buena Vista St. I just love it so much!

Day 2 Continued: Sunday March 1st

When I left off, we had taken the Red Car Trolley to the front of DCA and were saying farewell to that park for the night. Soon enough, we were going through the turnstiles at Disneyland for the evening. The park takes on a whole different feel at night. Writing this and looking at these pictures is really making me miss DL right about now!

We were ready to eat, so the first place we went was over to the Plaza Inn to get some dinner. I decided to get the fried chicken plate, and DH got parmesan pasta. We didn’t get DS his own meal because our meals were so huge, so we figured we could just share some with him. To no one’s surprise, he didn’t eat much. But DH and I very much enjoyed our meals! This is our favorite place to eat when we are visiting DL. All of the tables inside were full, so we took our food out to the porch to eat and enjoy the view.

We even got to see some of the evening parade while we were eating.

Once we were finished, we ventured into Tomorrowland to ride Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters.

After getting my butt kicked on Buzz by DH, we took the back walkway to Fantasyland to ride It’s a Small World. We passed by the Matterhorn and saw the lights on where they were still working on it. This was one of the rides DH was really disappointed to miss out on because it was under refurb. Of course, it didn’t matter to me because I wouldn’t have been able to ride anyway. But it does stink when those kinds of rides that are exclusive to the California parks are closed on your once in an every few years trip.

We got to Small World, which while open, did have the façade under scaffolding for refurb as well. A disappointment for sure, but nothing major.

We walked right onto the ride and actually ended up in a boat all by ourselves! Now, here’s an obscene amount of Small World pictures for your viewing pleasure. Or you can scroll really fast through them if you prefer. Lol

There were still a few other things in Fantasyland we wanted to ride, so we headed further in. This picture is terribly blurry, but DS wanted to stop for a picture inside of the stationary teacup outside of the ride.

by disneymom1024, on Flickr

Snow White’s Scary Adventures had a minimal wait, so we walked on to that next.

After that, we walked on to Pinocchio’s Daring Journey.

DS spotted the Casey Jr. train and wanted to ride again, and the line wasn’t too long, so we did that again. It was interesting after having ridden it that morning to see everything lit up at night instead.

Once we were done, we walked back towards the hub to cut through to Adventureland. DH wanted to do the Enchanted Tiki Room before the fireworks.

Dl 02-253
by disneymom1024, on Flickr

We went into the holding area to wait for the next show, but as we stood there for a few minutes, we realized we wouldn’t have enough time to see the show and still find a spot for the fireworks, so we left and went out to the hub to stake out a spot. However, after only being there for a few minutes we noticed there weren’t many other people waiting. And eventually we overheard a CM say that they had been cancelled for the night because of the weather. Needless to say, we were bummed, especially because this was one of only two nights we would have the opportunity to see them.

Once we realized we were waiting for nothing, we hurried back over to Adventureland and were able to walk right into the next showing of the Tiki Room.

As I had figured, DS was a little nervous during the thunder part. Luckily we have done all of these attractions enough that we can prepare him for the parts we don’t think he will like.

After the show, it was getting a little late, but despite the long day, we still had some energy. Where would we end up next?

UP NEXT: More Disneyland

Love all those nighttime shots! You guys did a lot of fun rides this night, curious to find out what else you had in store! Such a bummer about the fireworks being cancelled though, especially when you didn't have many days to see them.

that stinks that Matterhorn was down - agree that when you aren't at a place very often having a key, unique thing down is a buzz kill

You hit up some great classic Fantasyland rides though!

Too bad about the fireworks being cancelled. That is a big worry of mine as with Halloween parties going on we really only have one night for the parade and fireworks - so it if rains we are kinda screwed

We definitely kept ourselves busy on day 1!

It really did suck about the fireworks. It's so much harder to plan around in DL than WDW in the off season when they only have fireworks a couple nights every week.

It was doubly frustrating for me because not only were things down, but some I just couldn't ride because I was pregnant. But I knew that going in so I managed my expectations. It was still a bummer though, and it just means we need to plan a return trip sooner rather than later!

I really think all of the rain we experienced at the beginning of our trip was a fluke. I hope for your trip you don't have any!! And it is definitely tough with so few chances to see the fireworks, so hopefully they go off without a hitch for y'all.

What great photos - you have captured so many details. That's disappointing about the fireworks. It's hard when your best laid plans don't work. That's interesting you talk of 'managing your expectations'. I often talk about managing expectations and it is so true that when you take a pragmatic approach you tend not to be so disappointed by reality. As you say a great excuse for a return visit.

I love all of the Small World shots! It's one of our favorite rides at WDW but I love all of the extra touches in the DL version! The only part missing is the drunk hippo - DL hippo appears to be totally sober!

I'm sorry the fireworks were canceled, especially with a limited number of nights to see them!

Got a bit behind, but all caught up with your wonderful updates! I love the detailed pictures from Radiator Springs Racers! That's the most I've ever seen of it. I'm sad you weren't able to ride with them, but glad you got to enjoy exploring the rest of Cars Land together.

The Bug's Land looks really cute too.

Bummer that the Matterhorn was down and the fireworks were cancelled! Hope you get to see the fireworks later!

It's always such a bummer when stuff is under refurb during your trip, but it is an interesting process to see! I mean, from the little that you actually CAN see.

Oh MAN do I love Disneyland's small world! Usually I do kinda skim through a lot of photos like that but nope, not today! I can't get enough. Hehehe.

Ugh, the struggle of CA weather! The fireworks kept getting cancelled when we were there too! I had no idea they did that because I've watched fireworks at WDW in pouring rain. I guess there are huge risks involved but dang does it stink when it happens! Hopefully y'all got a chance to see them!
