How much of your vacation time do you spend at Disney?

Buy buying into DVC, we have committed a certain portion of our available vacation days to Disney.

I thought it would be interesting to ask how much of each year's total vacation days do you spend on a Disney vacation versus other destinations?

After answering the poll, please reply to provide some details:
  • How many times a year do you take a Disney vacation?
  • How many days per year do you spend at Disney
  • How do you use the remainder of your vacation days? What are your other favorite vacation destinations?
Include any type of Disney vacation - DVC, DCL, ABD, etc.

We go to WDW one or two times each year for a total of between 11 and 20 days. For me, technically I could be on vacation whenever, but my wife has six weeks in PTO per year. Other than Disney, we really don't vacation per say. We may spend a day or two and go to a major league baseball game, but usually we just stay at home and relax. We actually purchased DVC to force us to take at least one long vacation per year.

We haven't been to WDW in about three years - I did spend time on a DCL cruise and HHI two years ago. But most of our vacations days have been somewhere else - 10 days in the British Isles and Ireland last Summer, 6 at the North Shore this Fall. And with high school kids, travel is getting tough - can't leave them behind yet, but their schedules are busy or they don't want Disney when we can fit something in.

I voted <10%. We have a vacation home (used regularly; most weekends year round + several full week stays); RV (rarely used) and other timeshare. We often use the timeshares for conferences related to both work and pleasure (mostly horse-related events). We used to cruise often on NCL, Celebrity, Holland and others -- but that has slowed down since the vacation home and buying horses.

Since becoming members in 2008, we have only gone on one vacation outside of Disney and it was a cruise.
  • How many times a year do you take a Disney vacation? Twice
  • How many days per year do you spend at Disney - 6 days
  • How do you use the remainder of your vacation days? What are your other favorite vacation destinations? We ski in the winter and go boating in the summer in our hometown.

We're pretty close to 100 percent Disney. We might take a day or two here & there to visit friends in another city, maybe go to a concert. Other than that it's da Mouse (including DCL) :earsboy:

We spend around 75% of our vacation time at Disney and/or DCL. The reason being that we have a 9yo and Disney makes it easy! We are approaching a time in our life when we need to start doing other things, like national parks and monuments, DC and other classic US destinations. We would also like to start traveling abroad with our son. I envision adding those things and WDW becoming more like 30%. But for the past 5+ years, Disney has been our main focus. We also have a summer cottage in Michigan, but we primarily do long weekends ther from June through Labor Day.

Your question is based on an annual percentage, but we usually visit Disney every other year or so. So the quiz doesn't really work for our family. We take other large vacations in the intervening years.

We do one trip to dw at btwn 5-10 days a year (depending on if we bring family/friends, then less points available). We spend 100% at Disney- kids ages 2 and 5.

Other vacation time is spent seeing family and in laws during the holidays.

We go once a year on average but with condition of Studios, lack of new attractions at Epcot, and ever increasing ticket prices, we're spending more time at Resorts .This May while staying at
BCV we'll be heading to US for the first time.

I receive three weeks a year and all of my time is spent at Walt Disney World. Although I regularly think about planning a Hilton Head or Vero Beach trip, it does not seem to happen.

DVC Mike, just noticed you ask a lot of marketing/survey type questions. Are you a Disney &/or DVC employee, or associated/affiliated with Disney in any way directly or indirectly? Just wondering. Maybe you have already mentioned your reasons for asking so many questions, but indulge me. Thanks

We sold half our points a couple of years ago and kept just enough to get a couple of studios for 3 or 4 nights a year to take our granddaughter.

For a while since owning DVC - I would have said 75-100% but now 50% to %75. We vacation now twice a year. If we go to Disney alone - average 7-10 nights. If it is in addition to a cruise, HH or VB - 4/5 nights. Our plan now is to add Vero or HH more often - at least one of them once a year. Once a year or every other year - a cruise will be in there also. It's still mostly Disney/DVC related. Outside of this - every few years we add a different vacation destination.

We do DVC, Universal (very limited) or we cruise (mostly Carnival). If I go back over the past 10 years I have done: 3 nights at US resorts, 37 nights on a cruise ship and 107 nights with DVC/Disney (WDW, HHI or VB). DH, DS and DDs don't have the same numbers as they all weren't on all of the trips, but I was :P. That's about 73% (but 7 nights of the cruising was a Disney cruise...so that puts us at 77.5%). We also go to many places with DDs' travel softball team, some of which we try to get some vacation time out of the trips but it's really mostly softball. I'd say 75% DVC/Disney and a lot of that is WDW.

Will probably continue. We don't like flying so that rules out most trips out of the country. We cruise the Caribbean, Mexico, Bahamas (did Canada once). As we have 1 kid in college and 2 more heading there, we need to cut back expenses. I think, the next several years, we will stick to shorter trips to WDW (Jan with kids and F&W without the kids, not every year), some HHI trips once in a while and a cruise here and there.

I voted 50%-75%, between WDW and HHI. DH and I spend 1 week at WDW and 1 week (or more) at HHI every year. In addition, I spend about 1-2 more weeks solo at WDW. We also take another non-Disney trip, usually to a National Park. So for DH, about 2/3, for me about 4/5 (oh, oh-fractions!)

Since we only have 200 points and there are 6 of us, generally every other year. We tend to do national parks, with the Smokey Mountains being our favorite. A vacation for us just needs to be busy to keep the 4 boys happy. Both of these options accomplish this.

I marked 10-25%. I wish we had enough points to spend more, haha. My wife and I are both HS teachers so we get the week of Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break, and 2 summer months...We have enough points to go for about a week...
