What is the latest on the monorail? Are there still shortened hours or is it running on a normal schedule yet? Is bus travel from the Poly any problem in the morning to MK?

This is the information I am trying to find out as well.

I would make your request "close to monorail". That will give you the best shot at getting your request. From speaking to a couple different room assigners over the years, all 3 recommended describing what you want instead of asking for a certain room or building. It gives them so many more options to get you what you want that way.

Darnit, I wish I had thought of that. Instead I put in a request for Rarotonga, 1st or 3rd floor, facing south. Maybe I should just say it like this "close to monorail, away from construction, 1st or 3rd floor"? I really don't know what's acceptable as a request. My TA might wanna kill me through the computer screen ha ha.

I stayed in Rarotonga a few years ago, facing the east pool. Honestly, I didnt even know a pool was there until one morning I heard the lifeguards doing a drill and really looked. Between some foliage/trees, I could see a little pool water and some movement from people. Basically Im saying even if you face that side, you may not be able to see the ugliness!!
I was thinking that Rarotonga looked pretty far (all things considered) from the Quiet Pool area, so I did list it as a building I'd like to be in. Our #1 request is a King Bed, and this building seemed to have the most of those. We'll see. We should be in the lobby this time tomorrow checking in.

I want to have a room close to my mothers room, so the kids can go back and forth. Ideally connecting would be great but not a big issue if they are not. With her being the only person listed on the reservation I figure they would place her in a king bed room. I was trying to maximize our chances of being placed together. That is why I went with Rarotonga. She is only seeing pretty view of the pool! I just don't want her to be disappointed when we get there. I'm hoping for the best.

funny story.... I broke the news to my husband last night there is construction at the resort.....his comment was I hope its not as bad as the construction on the lobby at POR when we were there in 2013. (it was nothing but a few walls put up in the lobby area that we were never in!!) I looked at my mother and laughed......ugh oh I think I might be in trouble! :ssst:My answer was oh I'm sure it won't... you think that was bad? and I walked away! opps too late now!:rolleyes1

staying in a studio in september. we staying in Moorea in May but looking to request Tokelau because we like the location better. does anyone know how accurate(current) touring plans room finder is for tokelau. If the trees/bushes are still in place, then I don't think it will be that bad facing in that direction. Opinions? Thanks!

Hope you had a great trip :wizard:.

It was a great great trip we hadn't stayed there in a long time so we did the Spirit of Aloha, O'hana, Trader Sam's, roasted marshmallows on the beach with the fireworks and movie it was so much fun. We went for the Frozen Summer premium
package and that was just what we needed for our DS with special needs.

Had a villa in Tokelau on the opposite side of the construction ground floor felt very lucky to get that as well.

Monorail was still on a shortened schedule.

Too funny about your DH! I think everyone will have a great time as the Poly is an amazing resort :wizard:.

I can't help as I've never used touring plans, but hopefully others will be able to give some insight :flower3:.

Glad you had a great trip! It's been awhile since we last stayed at the Poly, so we are really looking forward to our trip next summer. We have tried several resorts over the years, but the Poly remains our favorite and I'm excited to see all of the new things :goodvibes.

Super excited! 1st trip to WDW and we literally just booked our trip to WDW for June. We are staying at the Poly!

How exciting :yay:. You picked a great resort for a first trip! Enjoy the planning :wizard:.

Getting closer

Any recommendations for a standard room as far as building requests etc?
I have never specifically requested anything but am subscribed to Touring Plans

I've heard a lot of good things about Samoa. It's close to both pools and an easy walk to the GCH for access to the monorail. Make sure you also request either the first or third floor if you want either a patio or balcony. Most buildings have fake balconies on the second floor. But depending on when you arrive there could be construction on the Oasis (East) pool, so you might want to request facing the Lava pool.

Here are some tips from AllEars.net http://allears.net/acc/cro1.htm

"Faxes are preferred to phone calls because it allows the room assigner to block requests in their own time. Phone calls can come at bad times and lead to a cast member making a notation on your reservation or on a piece of scrap paper and not actually blocking a room. The fax actually gets put in a file and rotated between the room assigners until you check in. If for some reason the room that was blocked for you gets moved, the next room assigner in rotation should catch it but remember that it is always possible that your preassigned room can be changed for many reasons right up until the moment you check-in. Requests should be faxed directly to the resort and marked "Attention: Room Assigner".

No requests should be sent until 4 days prior to actual check-in. The resorts do not get to download the reservations from the DRC computers until 10 days before your arrival and the room assigners generally block your rooms 3 days before. If you fax a request to a resort before they have the reservation in their computers and are ready to assign it, they will file it in a special "pass" folder. That folder should be checked daily to pull out faxes that came in early but there is always the chance yours could be missed. The best way to avoid getting in the Pass folder is to not send in your request until 4 days before.

Faxing after 4 pm is usually best only because the morning Room Assigner is usually bogged down with checkouts and the evening Room Assigner is usually dealing with check-ins until 4 pm. Honestly though, if you are faxing it doesn't matter when you send it. If they are busy they will file it and the evening Room Assigner will get to it when they start blocking request"-- Jack Marshall Allears.net

Thanks so much. I had heard 5 days for the magic fax time but 4 works too.

Samoa looks well situated. Hopefully we won't get the East pool side but I am fine if that happens.

12 more days until Trader Sam's

While we won't be staying at the Poly for another 29 days in just 7 days we will hopefully be enjoying a beverage at Trader Sam's and enjoying a monorail tour. :drinking1

Just a tip for those trying to get into Trader Sam's when it opens, they handed out pagers at 3:15 for the 4:00 opening. We were getting some food in Cooks for the pool and my DD saw them outside with the pagers. She told them we had to change and was inquiring about how far they worked but the gal at the door said they worked out by the pool and not to bother changing she had a cover up on. When we got paged to go in around 4 the line was huge with people who had no idea about the pagers or were told they were handed out at 3:30 which is what were told the previous days.

I hope you have a great trip it's just as lovely as ever!

Should I fax the room assigner for my requests if I'm staying in club level?

I guess Samoa is being worked on and the East pool construction is a bit noisy

As per Tikiman's site/FB

Here now and we've watched wishes twice from the beach , but no music :(. My oldest found the music on his phone and thinks he can sync it tonight -fingers crossed!

We have to head home tomorrow

This week the resort monorail was running at 8:30am on Monday and Tuesday, then normal hors the rest of the week. Epcot monorail started at 9am Monday and Tuesday, and again, normal hours the rest of the week. I'm sorry, I didn't look at the evening return hours!
