What Disney splurge did you book and have reservations about (pun intended ) but turned out to be well worth it? What seemed like a great idea, but for whatever reason didn't work? My positive experience was on my first trip. I added a day to our reservation to experience Mickey's Not so Scary Halloween Party. We loved the parade and fireworks and were able to do a ton of rides with minimal wait times. It was the perfect end to our vacation! Can't wait to hear your experiences!

Victoria & Albert, our first stay at Poly, and Illuminations Dessert Party were all well worth the cost. DCL was expensive but very much worth it too. The Wishes party not so much, but I am glad we did it once. We are hoping to do the Star Wars Weekends VIP/Ultimate Day tour next June. I am hoping it will be worth it.

My husband ate at V&A as the best man at a disney wedding and it sounds amazing! Definitely on my bucket list! We would love to do a disney cruise too! It's much pricier than other cruises, but I'm trying to convince myself it's worth it! Thanks for the response!

We have done several Royal Caribbean cruises, even once when DS was 4. They were great, but I wanted to try DCL once while he was still young. We loved it. I couldn't imagine a cruise being more kid-friendly than RCCL without being to over-the-top for adults, but it was great. While he is still young, 9 now, I think we will continue DCL, even though we get good customer loyalty discounts with RCCL. Adults only, we would probably do RCCL, because of the cost savings.

Where have you traveled on dcl? How are the ports and excursions? Thanks!

We did a 7 night Western Carribbean our of Port Canaveral on the Fantasy last July. It went to Grand Caymen, Jamaica, Cozumel, and Castaway Cay (Disney's private island). We did snorkeling in Grand Caymen and Cozumel. DS had snorkeled in Hawaii and loved it, so we knew it would be ok. Cozumel also had an on-road dune buggy part. I would skip that. It was windy, and our car had bad brakes. DH, who does amateur autoracing in an old car, ended up rear-ending a pickup in Cozumel traffic. It was a little scary, but we were all ok.

In Jamaica, we did the Green Grotto cave tour. Next time, I would either do Dunn's River Falls, which DH and I have done before, or stay on ship. We did a glass bottom boat thing in Castaway Cay, but I would just rent snorkel gear and chill on the beach.

The ports and excursions felt about the same as RCCL. However, I liked how on Fantasy, we waited in a theater and all left as a group, which is really good in Grand Caymen where you tender, take a smaller boat to the port. On RCCL, we always had to meet at the dock, which felt a little hectic and stressful.

EDIT: We liked Castaway Cay better than the RCCL private islands, Labadee and Coco Cay. Castaway has better facilities and does not require tendering.

We're going to the Halloween party in Sept (1st Disney trip) and plan on watching the fireworks. How different are they from the regular fireworks? My kids are 3 and 18mo and I don't know that we'll go back to the park another night and stay that late.

I'm not an expert but the parade is amazing and very different than any normal parade. The fireworks we experienced had images projected on the castle and was really cool, but may not be enough to keep the attention of young kids.

Thanks for the info!

Not a splurge (just going is a bit of a splurge!) but something I've never taken the time to watch. Fireworks. I was at DL (I know this is a DW forum, but it still applies) with 2 of my 3 kids and we stopped to watch instead of going on rides like we usually do. Best choice ever! Disney has officially ruined fireworks shows for me. Looking forward to similar experiences at DW next summer!

First- the Wishes Cruise. The tour guide was fantastic, the view for the fireworks amazing. This was back in 2007.

Then- MNSSHP 2012. Loved it so much we now book our Holidays for October just so we can go to it.

Mine is a massage at one of the spas. I know I can get a massage for less money at home, but Holy Moly! I liked the spa at SSR, but the entire experience at Senses at the GF was an amazing treat. There is something very nice about taking time to be pampered while on a lovely vacation.

Wanyama Safari at AKL. You have to be staying at the resort to book it and it's limited to 12 guests a day. You get apps and tea at Jiko, a tour out on the savannas, then a family style meal at Jiko. I booked it for our adults only trip, but I was really nervous because it was a lot of money (for us at least). Turned out to be amazing!

We did the DCL for our honeymoon, we loved it. It was much more reasonable back then (2001), we will do it again when our kids are at least 10 and 15 this way they can enjoy the splurge!
We also splurge on smaller things for our trips now like the Wishes Dessert Party, we love not having to wait for a spot to see wishes and the desserts are an added bonus!

Our very first trip, we splurged and did Poly for 4 days. It was only $600 more than 5 days at a value, so we did it. Super glad, as it will probably never happen again!

Our second trip, the girls and I splurged on tea at the Grand Floridian. It was so nice.

And as a family, we splurged on a family photo shoot at Beach Club with Disney Event Photography. It was our 20th anniversary, and we hadn't done photos in years. They were fantastic, and I love them!

For my trip in three years with my girls (University & College graduation trip) I plan to splurge on the Keys to the Kingdom tour for all 3 of us. We also plan to fly, something we've never done. We have always driven to Disney!

We did the Wanyama Safari at AKL as well, we were a little worried about it because it wasn't cheap but would so do it again if staying there.

One we thought was a good idea but were disappointed in was the Wishes Dessert Party. This was a few years ago, my DS, DIL and myself. Our table was real close to the rail, no tables in front of us so you would have thought that would be a perfect location. Nope, the disney photographer set up right in front of us so people were standing in front getting their picture taken, then when the FW started everyone went to the rail and stood, in front of us. I'm 5'2" so have problems seeing over people at the best of times. I didn't want to stand at my table and obstruct the view of the people behind us so I ended up standing in front of a big old column that was right beside our table, it was wider than me so I wasn't obstructing anyone but I still had to stand on my tip toes to see the preshow on the castle. The desserts were just blah and let's face it, you can't really eat more than a bite or two of one or two before you get sick, which I had anticipated and we had not eaten supper, we really just got the tickets to see Tink fly over and get to see the castle pre-show. Never again, I can buy two desserts for much less and find a spot to stand and have rude people stand in front of me for free.

Besides Victoria & Albert……

We rented a fireworks cruise for Illuminations when our child was a bit too young for us to carry her into the Parks all night long….we did not find these to be worth it.

On the other hand, we have rented our our watercraft and cruised around Bay Lake & 7 Seas (?) near Magic Kingdom - at this was well worth the $$.

We enjoyed the Tomorrowland Dessert Party in the past, but I don't think we'll be going to it anymore with the new, inflated price :(
