Payment due deadline

So our final payment is due July 22nd...what happens if I wait five days? Will they cancel my reservation?

We have all the money already saved in our "Disney Vacation Account", but in order to qualify for the free gift card promotion, we have to wait until July 27th to make the payment.

Is there a grace period?

If you call and tell them ahead of time, they may be able to extend the deadline. But if you don't call, they'll cancel the reservation and you'll lose your $200 deposit.

There is generally a grace period, and you'll get e-mails with a final pay-or-cancel date which is usually around 30 days out. We had a minor crisis arise one year and had to wait for a transfer from a difficult-to-access (intentionally so) emergency fund account before we could make payment on our '09 trip and ended up paying around 35 days out without an issue.

It can't hurt to call to get a bit of peace of mind, but there is a little wiggle room built into the 45 day mark. I'm sure Disney doesn't want to be cancelling trips on people who simply lost track of the exact date final payment was due.

I've never missed a deadline but I can say for sure with DCL they do cancel immediately and you lose your deposit. This happened to my SIL. It was booked onboard during a previous cruise which gives cruisers a discount & future spending credits. She was in the hospital for MS shortly after the deadline. They told her if she could show documentation that proves she was in the hospital on the deadline, they would create a new "onboard booking" for her and apply her deposit to it. She couldn't and lost her deposit. She ended up losing her job because of so much time missed with the MS and really could have used the $ if she had planned better and just cancelled for a refund.
Sometimes Disney isn't all warm & fuzzy and doesn't give a crap what your reasons are.

My BIL forgot to do his final payment until I reminded him. He was at least a week and a half overdue. Either he was lucky or was within the grace period because his reservation was still there.

I don't understand this. If she was admitted to the hospital after the deadline, why didn't she pay in time? Or pay before the deadline? You don't have to wait until the last day to pay.

She wasn't feeling well prior to being admitted. It was a "dummy date" so not a cruise she intended to sail on. People just book something, usually 1 person for the cheapest cruise possible, to secure the perks of booking onboard then later when you have a definite sail date you want, just change it and keep the perks. Kind of like booking a bounce-back at WDW.
So her deposit was only $60 but still. She admits it was entirely her own fault for missing the deadline but also she just wasn't her usual self either. Back then one could keep making changes and move it to a later date as long as you don't miss the deposit deadline. I have done this many times but I always change the date long before it gets so close to the deadline.

DD is having a hard time getting money from a friend. Your final payment date was a few days ago. She called and made a payment and explained. They were very nice about.

I always advocate to call before you miss/are late. I have yet to encounter a situation where calling first was a bad thing. It shows your good intent to pay and that's really what they want.

I'm interested to know what the outcome was for you? Did you wait, call...? We are in the same boat, payment is due when the account will be open 118 days, so I want to wait two days to make the payment so I get the credit for the gift card promo.
