Official Disney Cake Chatter - Part IV! (2012-2016)

We had a just gluten free cake from the Contemporary. The only flavor options were vanilla and chocolate, but it was not vegan just GF.
Vanilla or chocolate is fine with us! We like a simple flavor with a ton of frosting ;) Is there any way we could pick up the cake from Contemporary? I'm wondering if we should change to a different signature (we were going to Flying Fish) and just dine at the Contemporary. We are going to MK twice and have ADRs for dinner, but we will be at MNSSHP one night and Night of Joy the other night so I'd hate to carry around the cake until midnight.

Thanks everyone for the information. I will just have to go with the babycakes option then. Also, I know I've read thru this thread but just can't remember (probably since my 9 month old is teething and none of us are sleeping much). But can we order a small Mickey themed cake for my non allergen DS at Epcot? Do you think for a 4 year old its best to do the bday at a character dinner or would BOG or Whispering Canyon be ok? I looked at some other options but since it's during free dining not many options left.

Hi everyone! I'm way behind in posting this. I used this thread for my wedding this past November, to order a wedding cake for our Memories Wedding, and a "grooms" cake for the night before for my husband. One was wonderful and perfect...the other one...not so much. Sorry for the picture quality, they were taken with my phone!

Groom's cake:
Made by the Contemporary, worked with Chef Brian
Size: 6-inch fondant cake
Price: $89
Flavor: Orange cake w/ amaretto mouse filling
Delivery location: Surprise after dinner at The Wave

I wanted an "Up" theme, and sent inspiration pictures and an idea of what I was looking for. I wanted an Adventure Book incorporated. Aside from running after the server into the kitchen after she tried to bring my check with no one acknowledging the surprise, this cake was amazing (I do wish there were more clouds though). It tasted awesome and brought my husband to tears. Unfortunately we didn't get to have more than one piece each or so as we made the mistake of putting it in the refrigerator and it dried out and got hard. We did save the ballons and Adventure Book though and brought them home!

The detail on the "book" is amazing! It really does look real in person.

Wedding cake:
Made by the Grand Floridian, husband worked with Pat Anderson
Size: 2 tier 6-inch fondant cake?? I can't really remember
Price: $135 approximately
Flavor: Vanilla cake w/ bavarian creme filling
Delivery location: wedding dinner at Victoria & Albert's

My husband had trouble getting in touch with Pat, and requests/questions went unanswered. We sent pictures and were very descriptive on what we wanted. It didn't much resemble the pictures we sent; we requested the swirls be made into Mickey heads.. this did not happen and the swirls were WAY too thick and just look sloppy. The top layer just looks weird!!! We were VERY disappointed with this cake; the look, and the flavor. It tasted like tin! It was a huge waste a money and disappointment for our wedding :(

Any Disney pastry team can make that for you, including BoardWalk Bakery, which serves Flying Fish.

Yes on the mini cake at Epcot. And I think a 4-year-old is going to be happy no matter where you celebrate!

Any Father's Day Cake ideas?? We'll be at Via Napoli that night in Epcot.

Via Napoli does not do custom cake designs. You can see their set options in Post #2.

Thanks for sharing all these great details. I'm sorry your cake from the Grand Floridian was such a bust. But what a great cake you got from the Contemporary!

I was just wondering if anyone has tried e-mailing the special events team to get the Royal Highness package added to their ADR. I've tried twice to e-mail them both times I've been unsuccessful and don't really want to phone unless I have to.

TIA for any help!

It makes me VERY happy to hear that I will be able to get a gluten free cake that still contains dairy products! Someone did say BW Bakery does make gluten free cakes but they said the cake wasn't edible :confused3

We will be at Ft Wilderness Campground staying in our camper and I want to order two birthday cakes from the contemporary. Does anyone know if they will just let me pick the cakes up at trails end or do I have to be eating there to get them? I made an ADR for the day I want the cakes just in case but I'd rather just pick the cakes up to take back to our camper.

Hi all, we are just back from celebrating DD's 3rd birthday. She is allergic to dairy, but no one else in the group is, and she is used to getting a "special" cake just for her with a larger cake for everyone else, so we ordered the 6 inch Elsa cake below from GF for delivery at 1900 Park Fare for dinner one night - it was AMAZING! I called and basically just said we wanted an Elsa design for 6 people, chocolate with custard/strawberry filling, and my budget was $100, plus I needed an allergy/dairy free chocolate cupcake to match just for DD. I told her fondant was fine, and she promised a good layer of whipped cream frosting under the fondant so when you peeled it off there was still lots of frosting. I was honestly a bit worried that I was not more specific, but this was so much better than we expected and it was delicious. I do not know what they made the allergy free icing from, but it was great (although DD looked a little like a smurf when she finished it, lol) - thank you all for all your help on this board with ordering info!

PS - we did dinner on her actual birthday at CRT, but it was only 4 people, so we just ordered her a special allergy chocolate cupcake, and the tiara and balloon that are part of the HRH package and did not get the regular package with the cake. I forgot to take a photo of that cupcake, but it was cute, but much more simple. Every other place we went that gave her an allergy cupcake for her birthday without us preordering had some terrible cake that tasted like a bran muffin, although the icing was good (and we had a brief meltdown in Chef Mickey's when despite them sending the chef to the table and him sending an allergy cupcake the waitress then brought a regular one also that she could not have :(

All Disney pastry teams use the same recipes, so it's really a matter of opinion, not a difference in technique. I've heard good and bad about the various cakes Disney makes for special diets... and about their regular cakes, for that matter!

Yes, you can just pick up the cakes.

Here are the cakes I picked up from the Boardwalk Bakery Monday. The graduation cake was vanilla with vanilla mousse filling. A HUGE hit!! The anniversary was vanilla with strawberry mousse...not such a hit. No one liked the strawberry mousse. Wish we had gone with chocolate filling. Both cakes were very moist. Both 8 inches and both $40 each. I added the cupcakes picks.
