Official 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Thread.

Bit of bad news for my mum today... She has been having some issues with her right foot and left thigh. Turns out she has 2 stress fractures! She is not allowed to run AT ALL for 3 months. She is allowed to as much walking as she wants, so she will be doing that and swimming for her training (she's not even allowed to ride her bike in case she falls off - the thigh is very delicate and will cause massive problems if it actually breaks). Luckily, she managed to get a great POT (around 2 hours for the half), so she'll have a good buffer against the sweepers. Unfortunately though, it will be a much different race than she expected!

Poor Mum!!

She'll likely be in the same corral as my husband. I'll have him protect her. Worst case? My slow self will block the sweepers from getting to her.

Sending good healing thoughts!

Zanzibar138--sorry about your mum. I know how hard it is to be sidelined and not allowed to run. Hopefully the time off will heal her fractures. Best wishes to her for speedy recovery.

Zanzibar, your poor mom. I hope she heals up in time for the race. Was she taking calcium supplements or anything like that? I'm very paranoid about stress fractures for myself, i'm only 32 but I still worry.

I did my first post-op "run". I did 5km on the treadmill (in case i bled to death, i'd be close to home.) I did it in ~30minutes or so, slow, ugly, but i did it. It took a lot out of me, i was exhausted afterwards. I will defnitely be switching to the 10km this weekend and possibly walking it.

Thanks all for your support for my mum - I will pass on all your comments :goodvibes

Wow you did really well to run 5km. FWIW, I can't even run 5km in 30 minutes on my best days (my official PR is 38 minutes). It will be a big ask to do 10k this weekend - make sure you don't overdo it!

I don't think Mum has been taking any calcium supplements. Perhaps I will suggest it to her. This is the second time she's had to deal with stress fractures. The first time was her ankle, but she did got out and do 8km on her first run (she was already aerobically fit from cycling). Because she just kept running the whole 8km, she actually caused a break and couldn't even walk for a while. This time she built up gradually, but her and Dad had been continuing to do long runs every weekend since their last half at the beginning of February! Her poor legs probably just needed a couple of weeks off.

I'm signed up for the Double Dare. I have plans to fly in (from TX) on Wednesday and leave on Monday. I ran the half in 2010 and this will be my first trip back out to Disneyland since then. :)

Welcome! We fly in on the Wednesday too, but fly out on Tuesday night.

Sending healing energy to your mom hope she has a speedy recovery. Tell her not to eat of the spinach family they are not good breaks or fractures.

Wow I never would have guessed that about spinach! What's in it that isn't good for breaks? We both like baby spinach leaves, so I'll have to let her know and keep that in mind for myself too!

I have been told it slows the healing of bones. I know it includes Kale too! We had a lady come and speak at our running clinic and she spoke about the spinach family and bones.

Since we are under 100 day's away I've decided I better start putting together my costume. Wish me luck as I borrow my mom's sewing machine... If it goes well I'll let you all know what I plan to be... If it goes bad I will delete this post and act like this never happened. Ha ha

Also I'm wishing runDisney would update the events links. Tink still appears at the top of the list, there is just something exciting about seeing the race you are prepping for at the top of the list... So I'm excited to see the Disneyland Half Weekend move to the top.

Lastly, everything I'm hearing out the 60th entertainment is WONERFUL! Plus some great reviews of some new food items for the 60th too.
(minus some mixed reviews on World of Color: Celebrate)

So excited just booked flights into Orange Co. Arriving Thursday afternoon it is real now. We are staying at the DL hotel. My husband's first half yippee! DDD here we come! Hope to meet up with some of you. It is going to be a blast!

I'm sending lots of positive thoughts for your mum! :sunny: @kelly 1 's comment about the spinach family brings up another point- If your mum does begin taking calcium supplements, please know that the body can only absorb up to a third of the required daily intake at a time... Which means that the calcium supplement needs to be broken up into ~500mg doses and taken at different times during the day. (Disclaimer: Mum's physician should be able to confirm this or advise otherwise :) )

I know the feeling - so very exciting! I think there are a few meet-ups listed on page 1 of the thread ... Although I'm always up for more adventures.

In other news, I'm seriously contemplating buying the AP again for the 60th festivities. But I've already spent so much $$$ on this DL race weekend plus the WDW race weekend next January. Argh!

Medals are close to being done! I stopped by the booth at RnR San Diego this morning and the guy said they were supposed to debut here this weekend, but when they got them back, they wanted to tweak them a littlemore. Now the plan is for RnR Seattle in 2 weeks and maybe fb before.

Zanzibar ~ hope your mom gets better soon!

:rotfl:

I think I've decided on a Mulan theme for the weekend.

For the 5k, I think I'll go with Mulan's green and blue outfit.

My plan is to get some yellow compression sleeves/socks and a pale green V-neck tank, which I can add some darker green trim to. I already have a cobalt sparkle skirt, so I might just try to add a red waistband to it or something. If DH is happy to wear red then he can be Mushu. If not, I'll buy a small Mushu soft toy and attach it to my outfit somewhere.

For the half, I'm having trouble deciding between a few of Mulan's outfits. My first idea was to wear the final blue dress in a attempt to signify having won my own battle lol!

But then I thought maybe I should wear one of Ping's outfits to signify fighting my battle, then Disneybound the blue dress in the parks with my medal. The battle outfit would probably make more sense if I did that, but the training outfit would be a lot easier to replicate!

What do you guys think?

I'll try to get DH on board with a Shang inspired outfit.

If I can get him to wear grey shorts and a grey t-shirt with black socks and a black running belt, I'll be happy. If he lets me attach a small red 'cape', I'll be thrilled lol!

My parents have said that they're not interested in matching outfits this year, but if Mum wants to wear red or blue/purple, she can fit in as Mushu or Cri-Kee.

I am also planning on Disneybounding as Russell and Boo on a couple of park days.
