Oh Florida! An East Meets West Girl's TR: 8/9 p56 & 8/17 p57

Ok I got kind of far behind but I think I'm caught up now? I just read the last 2 updates that were posted, so I'll try to comment on those but I can't remember anything I wanted to say! I'm glad my trip is over because now I can get back to the DIS and stop being so far behind on TR's! :rotfl:

So who doesn’t love a butterfly?

Umm...:wave2:

I do like those butterfly topiaries, but keep the real ones far away from me! :rotfl2:

Yum, Via Napoli, I haven't been there in forever! I tried to get an ADR there for my May trip, but I could never find a time that worked for me! I'll definitely have to go next time!

Cynthia, I can't believe you can run in the morning! I'm so jealous of people who can go for walks/runs in the morning at Disney and then walk around the parks all day! How are your feet not killing you??? I get these stupid blisters on my pinky toes and I'm ruined for the week...from blisters!

Aww, you met up with Kat, she's awesome! Wish she would come back to the DIS and write some more TR's!

MEK:
Dismeets are fun.
Looks like fun at MK.
I agree about skipping the queue at HM.
Your photos came out better than mine in there.
I am fascinated by the fake snow too. LOL.
I am not a fan of massages, don’t like people rubbing their hands all over me.
I hope you choose Turf Club, love that place.
Too bad you didn’t eat there.
I agree, the sushi there is really good.
Paradiso is so good.
1am swim sounds like fun.

Cynthia:
LOL, you went into the mens locker room.

MEK:
YUM! Now I want a “No Way Jose” from B&C.
Nice pics around Epcot.
I think the Nemo pics came out good. I can never get any.
I would hate to see the amount of pics you took of someone you knew getting married. LOL.

Cynthia:
Great pics of your run and your time at Epcot.
I am all caught up again.

Happy Sunday that feels like a Saturday! I LOVE that about long weekends. I can actually take a little DIS time and noe feel like I am neglecting other things. Of course I AM neglecting other things but too bad. LOL. I'm going to respond to replies, then Mary Ellen's and then if the gods are willing get the rest of my Epcot day up so I am caught up to where Mary Ellen is.

Lovely run pictures! What a treat to start the day like that! :goodvibes

Yay for the meet with Kat! :thumbsup2

It was a treat! I had never tried that route before and with the construction we weren't sure if you could still get all the way to DTD running so it was a bit of an adventure to figure out, esp as I don't really know SSR well at all. Kat rocks!

I remember that rain poncho - the entire thing fell apart.
I don't remember that part.

OK - I think I have definitely lost weight since last year. I am going through a serious calorie tracking phase right now and its helping.

Those really work if you stick to them. I should and have made a few half hearted attempts to do it again over the past 8 months but have not stuck to it. When I did, it really really worked. But it's work.

o your FP schedule reveals no explanation for why I have pictures for Soarin right after TT. Do we ride standby???? I'm so confused. Really.

I can't imagine we did standby, for some reason I feel like someone gave us FP's?????

I remember you jumping in the pool. It was seriously hot that day. All I could handle was the run to the health club and back. I never would have made it to DTD. Well, maybe now I could, but definitely not back then.

that's because you were smart and ran the day before, the non 900 degree morning.

Your dark and stormy looks way cooler than mine.

I didn't stir before photo op. LOL!

Yuck. Sorry you had to deal with all the phone calls. That's a good way to ruin a nice morning of solitude. Hopefully everything was easily resolved.

Yeah, it wasn't anything major but I swear it was both kids and different things. The worst part was having to do a full stop mid run in that kind of heat. That is why I needed to jump in the pool!

My money is on Olaf there.

Mine too

Yippie! All caught up again. WAY too much to comment on, so just wanted to let you know that I loved reading all about your day at Epcot and enjoyed all the photos.

Thanks Karin!

Now to Cynthia's update. DTD/Disney Springs is still a total mess...just in different spots now (had a horrible cab ride there last week).

It was a mess in September when Jeff and I were there, better than on this trip but still a mess. Seemed actually worse again when Ann and I went there over PHM. WAYYYYYY worse. Bus situation was an absolute nightmare. And it was FREEZING. LOL.

I forgot about Cynthia's phone call drama. When you have school age kids at home that is bound to happen. It used to happen to me all the time. I even had the school call once because someone needed a late note. :faint:

I remember it happening to you more than once on other trips.

It was HOT that morning!

Really hot!

I really love that show too. She just never wants to stick around for it. On our canceled trip, she was going to leave after dinner, and Jim and I were going to go see the show.

Boo! It is my favorite actually. I think for me it's the combination of everything, not so much the actual fireworks themselves as arguably Wishes is better. But the music, being in Epcot which is a seriously happy place for me, and the fireworks combined make it our hands down winner.

Especially if we can walk "home" after.

I had the one with Myers since I don't like Coconut and it was very good!

The Myers one was prettier! I love Coconut rum so it was good but I think we both had whip envy seeing Kat's.

Hello ladies ! I haven't been on the boards in forever. Yet here I am, in desperate need of a vacation (yet I don't have one planned), and the next best thing is to read about someone else's vacation to my favorite place. Cynthia, since I love your TR's so much, you are the first person I searched for and I found this combined TR. How fun!

I haven't even read past the first page yet but wanted to say hello and that I'll be reading to get caught up soon.

Alison!!!!!!!!!!!!! How fun to have you here. I am SO behind everywhere myself but life should settle down for a few months starting now. Well settle down as much as it ever does I guess.

:welcome:

Awww, you got to meet Kat! How absolutely fun is that!!?? Loved all your drink choices especially the Drunken Dole Whip! Wowza!! :)

Kat is the bomb and the drunken dole whip was delish!

The flowers in Norway are always so pretty! Nice shots there! Your tilapia looks suspiciously like a scallop with spaghetti squash?? Hmmmm....

It does. I am almost positive I had the tilapia and know I wouldn't have ordered the scallop. However, the scallop is right up Mary Ellen's alley so it IS possible it's a picture of her food.

Lovely morning run pictures. I'm sure if there wasn't all that construction at DTD it'd have been even nicer.
Can't blame you for jumping right into the pool after your run. That's the perk of being near one. Easy and fun way to cool off on a hot day.

All I could think of on the way back was jumping straight in the pool, and then wondering if that was kosher. And then deciding I didn't care.

The downpour that day at Epcot. Bleck. I am pretty sure that picture of the IG features myself and Alex in the background. We were the only people too chicken to run to the Beach Club.
I think you had a poncho on, too. But I can't remember.

I don't remember having a poncho on but it's possible I did! It was a sprint for sure, it was pouring!!!!!!!!!!!!

I still can't believe nobody ordered ice cream at Beaches and Cream! Although, the adult Dole Whip is just as good. If not better in certain situations.

The dole whip is less filling too, we were stuffed after those burgers!

I wanted to pop in and let you two ladies know that I've been reading along and am all caught up again. Of course, with our two week trip to Disney starting Friday, I'll fall behind again. UGH!

Have a great trip Liesa! I am beyond behind everywhere, with no hope of catching up but I am following along on FB!

Cynthia, I can't believe you can run in the morning! I'm so jealous of people who can go for walks/runs in the morning at Disney and then walk around the parks all day! How are your feet not killing you??? I get these stupid blisters on my pinky toes and I'm ruined for the week...from blisters!

Oh no, that's awful!

I get pretty nasty blisters, blood blisters and torn up feet. I always have. I have different issues than before I ran but it's still an issue. For me the key to mitigation is Shoe Rotation. I bring a LOT of shoes that hit my feet in different spots so that I can rotate. That way if one spot get cranky I can wear a different shoe that hits other spots to give the bad area a break. I guess luckily for me, the issues caused by running are all around my bunion areas. Those areas can be problematic in a closed shoe but get nice breaking space in a flip flop so walking around isn't an issue at all. Also, thankfully, the bunion areas are pretty manageable until I start going over 6 miles or more and I don't run that far in the parks, this was under 5 miles total. Good socks are huge! For me, smartwool socks have been by far, the best.

Aww, you met up with Kat, she's awesome! Wish she would come back to the DIS and write some more TR's!

Me too, love Kat!

Cynthia:
LOL, you went into the mens locker room.

I know, it was pretty funny and we'd only had one glass of wine at that point!

Cynthia:
Great pics of your run and your time at Epcot.
I am all caught up again.

Thanks Scott!!!

So for kicks I went and looked to see exactly what my route was. You can tell I totally lost my momentum after that long stop with the phone calls. It would appear I walked part of the way back as I definitely stopped RK before making it all the way. The heat really cranked up during the run, which is I guess what I get for starting so late in the morning. It's funny though, looking at this does make me want to maybe log other travel run in RK. I've actually stopped using it as more than a log, I take the info from my watch and just log it in as before, RK would be so off I'd have to go back in an manually adjust it to match the watch otherwise it made me look a lot faster than I was. Still, kind of fun to go back and look!

I confess, as usual, I have many of the same pictures as Mary Ellen for the remainder of the day but again, as usual, not nearly as many nor are they as good!

In looking back I am thinking 2 things happened. 1) my time stamp on my real camera was never adjusted and as result 2) my photos are out of order in PB and my last update is a bit off. I did however solve the Soarin' mystery!

I show we visited these guys

IMG_1116.jpg

IMG_1117.jpg

and then, look! Of course how we snagged these I've no idea. Maybe we went in just to see what standby looked like and pixie dust happened????

IMG_1118.jpg

IMG_1120.jpg

YAY! Then a little Nemo and some butterflies

I don't remember seeing that many in the tent but I did covet this glass art

IMG_1139.jpg

IMG_1136.jpg

I think we hit the art store either before or after Soarin' About all I saw of interest was this.

Well not buying this per-se but instead maybe making a canvas wrap of some of my own pictures. This one I took just to send to Jeff as he loves this guy.

IMG_1114.jpg

Just past the store.... you gotta love Goofy

IMG_1140_1.jpg

IMG_1141.jpg

Very clever with the World Cup coming. The unfortunate part was that soccer jerseys had replaced the fabulous vintage WS tees in the merch area by the African Outpost. Which really bummed me out as my boys were outgrowing their beloved Germany Pavillion tees.

With all of the outdoor glass art, we enjoyed checking it out at kiosks as we went. It was outrageously expensive. But then we found a neat little glass tile stand and I found some art for my powder room!

IMG_1143.jpg

Soon after, we hit some of my favorite topiaries. This one reminds me of my son Evan who will recreate this pose often, complete with singing. Just seeing it makes me smile.

Pretty sure we had our dark and stormy just after this. LOL!

I love how they theme the train for each event.

Continuing around....

Ah Italy, so pretty!

P5148970.jpg

Another favorite spot

P5148971.jpg

It was not our destination, this was!

P5148972.jpg

My poor kids and husband have yet to make it here. It's been on the agenda but has gotten cancelled for different reasons each time.

At the restaurant I enjoyed the lights. Somehow I don't think they would translate as well at home.

P5148977.jpg

I also enjoyed THIS!

IMG_1145.jpg

with a beverage of course

IMG_1146.jpg

and I know Mary Ellen already posted this but it was YUMMY!

IMG_1148.jpg

She can say otherwise but I'm pretty sure she enjoyed her birthday serenade by our adorable CM.

IMG_1149.jpg

My action shot of him singing didn't work out so well

IMG_1150.jpg

What I do know is this. We didn't eat that whole pizza, we ended up taking maybe half of it back.

All that outdoor kitchen snacking caught up with us at dinner!

My pictures of the happy couple didn't turn out so well. For me I can't say I found them "shiny", as Mary Ellen describes it. For me, the dress was a bit much and well, the whole thing seemed so posed it was more plasticy to me, than shiny. Which I realize sounds horribly mean and I am sure they are lovely people. Sometimes you get that vibe though when you can tell people think they are "all that" and to me, that's unattractive. I dunno. Mabye I am old and jaded but it's your wedding night, you are watching fireworks. Watch the show and let the camera catch the candid moment instead of focusing on fake kisses at the proper angle for that perfect kodak moment. Sorry. It may have been that for whatever reason the bride reminded me of Jessica Simpson who has always annoyed me to no end. LOL!

IMG_1165.jpg

IMG_1178.jpg

On our way back to the bus I attempted a lot of night photos of the topiaries. Most didn't turn out well but for some reason I like these

IMG_1189.jpg

IMG_1190.jpg

and with that, it was bedtime! What a fun day!!!!!!!!!!

Mary Ellen- sounds like you have some fun summer travel plans. Williamsburg and Jamestown sound really interesting. I love Jen's trip report from there.

I'm almost afraid to ask- when in August will you be in Orlando? We are getting another use of our Universal APs and then I am headed to the Beach Club for a couple of days to meet with my pals.

I am caught up to Bowling Alley Sushi.

What an amazing day!!!

Sushi looks fantastic!

Yeah - we basically closed down DTD.

:worship:

I have visited during every month (except July - perish the thought!)

That's when we have gone the most!

I know where you are eating, but not who you are meeting. But I'm going to guess Caitlin/Dawn/Dale because that is always a possibility!

;)

Great additions to the rest of the day, Cynthia. The topiaries pictures are great. I'm sorry Jeff and the boys have not yet tried Via Napoli. I FINALLY tried it earlier this month but won't reveal what I thought until I get to that day on my TR.

You hit it on the head...Jessica Simpson. That is exactly who she reminds me from the pictures. And she annoys me too.

I love seeing your perspective of the day, Cynthia. What a fun day it seems.

Love the topiaries and the food from Via Napoli!

Surprise Breakfast Hit

Let me preface this update by saying that I have been really bad at DISing for the past week. I don’t know what happened. I was on a roll and then suddenly…starting last weekend….nada.

I have replies to do (and as I write this I don’t even know how many), but if I don’t post this first I will have no motivation to get to replies.

Is the end of my time on the DIS coming soon????

I hope not.

I think I’m just in a slump. You know - both kids home from college, overnight shifts the last couple weeks, a mom with an injured neck, a friend from work who just lost his partner. Life stuff. You know how it goes. I rather play a mindless game of candy crush then DIS.

At the very least I gave Cynthia time to crank out her last update, so don't forget to check it out!

So let me pump out an update and then check the damage.

Here it goes.

Day 5.

I got up and ran over to SSR again. When I got to Congress Park I stopped to take a few pics.

This has certainly progressed a lot since last year.

I love the pool at Congress Park

On the trail back.

Then I finished my run.

The plan for today was MK in the morning. We were hoping to squeeze in some breakfast at Olivia’s, but I was also hoping to see L.L., a former DISer. When I did a quick time calculation it was obvious that if we had a sit down breakfast we were going to miss her.

I know Cynthia really had her heart on Olivia’s and, truthfully, so did I. But I really wanted to see L.L. and her family. I met LL years ago (in 2011). I just wanted to say ‘hi’ and meet her daughter V.

So we got on the bus and Cynthia was feeling a little annoyed cause we were missing breakfast, which I don’t blame her.

I knew we needed to find some breakfast ASAP when we hit the MK. But what were the chances of finding something that could rival the cuisine at Olivia’s.

But guess what?

Boy did we find some breakfast.

Sleepy Hollow

Home of the waffle sammie

We both ordered the ham, prosciutto, and Swiss cheese waffle.

May I present heaven on a waffle

YUMMMMMMMMMMM!

This sammie was SO good and SO filling. It is my new “go-to” breakfast food at the MK. I hope they NEVER get rid of it.
After breakfast we walked over to meet LL. I think. I don’t remember the exact meeting time. All I know is we don’t have a picture. Well, unless Cynthia does.

Anyway - it was nice to see LL, her DH, and meet adorable daughter. She was also there with her parents so it seemed intrusive to ask for a picture.
After we said goodbye to LL and, since we were in the general vicinity, you know I had to take some more pictures of the mine train.

I think I took this next picture in the gift shop

and this one

This T-shirt cracks me up

Love this!

You can’t pass this fountain without taking a pic! Go ahead and try it - I bet you can’t!

Time to take a little ride.

But first, I wanted to check this out.

After our Ariel Encounter I took some more pictures of this!

I should have called this TR “How Many Pictures Can One Person Take of the Mine Train”. It appears that I was slightly obsessed!

How about a change of scenery?

This caught my eye. I thought it was such a cute picture of Alice and this family. I knew I needed a paparazzi moment.

I mean, seriously…how cute is this family?

And one more for good luck!

We passed another photo op.

And then had one of our own!

We spent a little time over in adventure land. Probably before our castle photo-op, but my pics are out of order.

I thought these sneakers were too cute.

A spitting camel. Who knew?

I got a few pictures of my favorite climbing tree.

And back out to Main Street.
No filter

filter

Ugh - those dividing walls looked like crap.

I miss you Main Street. See you in August!

So, we didn’t spend a lot of time in the MK, but we had a yummy breakfast and got to say hi to LL. But now it was time for a little R&R.
We headed back to the villa where it was impossible to get tired of this view.

After a quick change into bathing suits, it was time to check out the pool. I really loved this quiet pool.
The view was pretty nice, too!

Doesn't that water look gloriously blue?

The view from where I sat

Getting artsy!

My next few pics are from inside, so we obviously caught a rain shower.
Wet leaves

I can't forget these last two pics!

Rain

And my favorite

Up Next - Ritas and more….

Is the end of my time on the DIS coming soon????

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
You take such great photos and your story telling is so exciting we need you here.

I think I’m just in a slump. You know - both kids home from college, overnight shifts the last couple weeks, a mom with an injured neck, a friend from work who just lost his partner. Life stuff. You know how it goes. I rather play a mindless game of candy crush then DIS.

Been there, done that! ;)

Love the update - I admire you for being able to run in the mornings. I wish I could, but I am far too lazy for that. :faint:

Seems like a nice breakfast after all. Great you found it. And then to be in time for the DISmeet and being a paparazzi with this cute family and Alice. Love the photos from the mine train and the ones from the Ariel ride. So cool.

Cynthia- A paper FP! Those are so rare to see nowadays. Glad you guys were able to get it so that it allowed you to ride both TT and Soarin'. It's rough having to choose between the two sometimes. (I'm going to be in trouble when I don't get Rider Swaps anymore.)
A canvas of a topiary...that's different. I guess if you REALLY love the Flower and Garden Festival.

Excellent appetizer choice at Via Napoli. Tomato and mozzarella are my favorite flavor combos. I could eat that dish every day.

Mary Ellen- We all have those times when DISing is just not on the agenda. If I ever feel like I'm getting on more from an obligation than enjoyment, I tend to skip it. But that's just me. Although, you did pass me again in Candy Crush, so if you do want to forgo some playing time, I won't complain. :rotfl2:

It's good to hear you found a delicious breakfast in MK! I've heard the waffle concotions at Sleepy Hollow are really good. And I like the sound of yours.

Oh man, your pool pictures look so relaxing. I was just in a pool yesterday, but seeing that beautiful blue water makes me want to go in one again today.

I confess, as usual, I have many of the same pictures as Mary Ellen for the remainder of the day but again, as usual, not nearly as many nor are they as good!
There aren't many who can take as many pictures that are as good as hers.

With all of the outdoor glass art, we enjoyed checking it out at kiosks as we went. It was outrageously expensive. But then we found a neat little glass tile stand and I found some art for my powder room!
Lookss tropical... :rolleyes1

Soon after, we hit some of my favorite topiaries. This one reminds me of my son Evan who will recreate this pose often, complete with singing. Just seeing it makes me smile.
There's just something about that pose. So timeless and classic. It is hard to resist. Although I give him some credit for singing with it. :thumbsup2

I love how they theme the train for each event.
::yes:: They don't overlook anything!

My poor kids and husband have yet to make it here. It's been on the agenda but has gotten cancelled for different reasons each time.
You are cruel!!! Make this happen!!!!!!

At the restaurant I enjoyed the lights. Somehow I don't think they would translate as well at home.
It is a cool chandelier. I've always thought it looks more Mardi Gras, New Orleans-ish than Italian. I guess it's the beads? :confused3

Watch the show and let the camera catch the candid moment instead of focusing on fake kisses at the proper angle for that perfect kodak moment. Sorry. It may have been that for whatever reason the bride reminded me of Jessica Simpson who has always annoyed me to no end. LOL!
Totally makes sense to me.

Is the end of my time on the DIS coming soon????
Noooooooo!!!!! :scared1:

But I get where you're coming from. Maybe you just need a break for a while so you can come back recharged later?

I think I’m just in a slump. You know - both kids home from college, overnight shifts the last couple weeks, a mom with an injured neck, a friend from work who just lost his partner. Life stuff. You know how it goes. I rather play a mindless game of candy crush then DIS.
I get it. Makes sense.

Boy did we find some breakfast.

Sleepy Hollow

Home of the waffle sammie
I've heard only good things about these. Never tried it myself, but it looks great.

You can’t pass this fountain without taking a pic! Go ahead and try it - I bet you can’t!
Even when it is dry... :rotfl2:

But first, I wanted to check this out.
Looks like a cool shop. Don't know how I've managed to miss it. Never stepped foot inside.

I should have called this TR “How Many Pictures Can One Person Take of the Mine Train”. It appears that I was slightly obsessed!
::yes:: But I still think you have more bride pictures. :rotfl:

Ugh - those dividing walls looked like crap.
::yes:: But they make way for bigger and better things!

Let me preface this update by saying that I have been really bad at DISing for the past week. I don’t know what happened. I was on a roll and then suddenly…starting last weekend….nada.

Glad you are back at it!

Is the end of my time on the DIS coming soon????

That's not funny! I do understand you need a break from here sometimes! I usually get mine during Football season as I'm so busy coaching, but come December I really need to come back here. Really am glad you are back!

We both ordered the ham, prosciutto, and Swiss cheese waffle.
May I present heaven on a waffle

No more pics like this while I'm on my pre-vacation diet! You're making me hungry.

I should have called this TR “How Many Pictures Can One Person Take of the Mine Train”. It appears that I was slightly obsessed!

Always love your pictures!

Ugh - those dividing walls looked like crap.

I hope some more of the hub construction is done before we arrive in a couple of weeks. It would just make things so much nicer in the Magic Kingdom!

Great update, MEK. And you can't leave the DIS...we would miss you and your pictures.

I'm glad you found a new go-to sandwich at the MK (I probably would prefer Olivia's...but I'm a very fussy eater).

I'm glad you got to hook up with your friend who used to be here on the DIS.

You were on a tear with those Mine Ride photos, weren't you?

Great photos of you and Cynthia.

Which quiet pool is that? I don't remember there being a child's slide by the two quiet pools we've used.

OH MAN OH MAN OH MAN OH MAN OH MAN!! It may say FP+... but in my heart it says Fastpass.

Watch the show and let the camera catch the candid moment instead of focusing on fake kisses at the proper angle for that perfect kodak moment.

I could not agree more. Spontaneous pictures, un-posed, would have been something you would look back on with much more fondness years later I think.

Is the end of my time on the DIS coming soon????

I hope not.

I hope not too Mary Ellen!!!!!! But I do get it.

Oh my, I do love a good waffle. I will definitely keep this in mind. This would make a good alternative to my normal Gaston's Cinnamon bun.

I love this. Thomas Kinkade. I have that very photo as part of a Disney calender

Kinda loving this update

Eric needs to go away though.
