Official Disney Cake Chatter - Part IV! (2012-2016)

I decided to give up on getting a Star Wars themed cake as they would not put the top from one cake (Jedi Mickey) on top of the other cake... there were two choices. I would think paying $100 for a cake, they could easily put the white chocolate mickey on the top....

Anyone do a smaller sized Frozen themed cake? Daughter has seen the slipper before so not sure I want to go that route and go bigger but not TOO big as we're only 3 people.

Love the cake pics! Well this year we will be down in Disney(November) for my Birthday and I have been
Seeing the pirate cake/island/treasure chest cake with my name on it. We are eating at Ohanas that night.
Anyone that has ordered that cake could you give a ballpark quote and where to call?

So I've been dealing with Chef Brian.. how long in between emails should I leave until I start thinking he forgot about replying? last week he replied the next morning, then not until like 6 days later *emailed him on day 5 asking if he got my last email*....now again no response for like 4 days so far and I know hes off Tuesday Wednesday so it'll be 6 days again until he replies. is this normal?

If you are talking about the Mickey Pirate one that I posted a few pages back that was a design I drew out and sent to the Contemporary bakery with specifics about the size I wanted. It's not a standard cake design I just took features I'd seen on other pirate cakes and sent them what I wanted. It was $120 for a 6 inch 4 layer cake. But the Contemporary doesn't do cakes for Ohana so you'd have to get a quote through I think GF and ask if they can do something similar. Someone else can verify which bakery it is, but I'm certain it's not the Contemporary.

Has anyone done a star wars cake? Other than that photo of the furry chewbacca one?

There's a Black fondant one with colorful fondant stars and either a painted jedi mickey or screen printed Darth Vader on white chocolate (like they do for the princess ones on pg 99). Someone also had a screen print of Boba Fett on an 8" cake, but the contemporary is now saying they can't do him. They can also do a large cake with a sculpted chocolate Darth Vader head, but a cake like that will probably run you several hundred dollars.

Anyone seen or done a R2D2 cake? Not sure if or what star wars characters are allowed?

I mean, I made one a few weeks ago and it's pretty time consuming cutting all the fondant pieces out for him. It took 2 of us 3 hours to decorate with fondant, so if they could do it, the price would probably be pretty high. Whenever I asked the contemporary about other star wars characters, they avoided the question.

Hi everyone, I would like to order her royal highness package for my daughter birthday this coming oct, but I prefer the old cake design as I looked at p 99 royal package pic. Is it possible just order the old design cake manually and send into crt instead of ordering the whole royal package? Thank you so much....

Thank you to everyone for all your helpful info!! I just ordered a cake from GF for dinner at 1900 Park Fare for my DD's 3rd birthday. We were going to do the Frozen cake at CRT, but were not able to get a reservation for more than 4, and we have 7 with friends. The ordering with GF was a simple phone call, she promised to make it very similar to the one at CRT, but 1 tier 6 inch, with a lighted tree, fondant, sparkles and just Elsa. She told me $100, which also includes a specially decorated allergy cupcake to match for the dairy allergy in our party. I'll post pics after we go on June 6th.

Sounds nice! Does anyone have the price for the chocolate figure and chocolate strawberries? For some reason I don't find a price

Oh never, ind! Of course I find it right after I ask. The price I see is $45 does that sound right?

Despite all the Star Wars cakes they've displayed at the Star Wars Weekends Feel the Force deluxe dessert party (including an R2D2 cake), when you call the various resorts to ask about getting a Star Wars themed cake, the options are very limited. And they always ALWAYS say no to the R2D2 cake. About the best you can hope for is a Chewbacca cake like the one found earlier in this thread (which is actually pretty rad) or one covered in black fondant with cut-out stars and the Star Wars logo.

I would just tell them you want to order a custom cake, go through the usual "We only have 2 styles" business, insist that you want a custom-designed cake, and then - when they've put you in touch with a pastry chef at the Contemporary - send in a pic of the cake you want. The only caveat is they may no longer have the plastic figurines that go in the tops of the old cakes.

Sure!

Hi all! Thought I'd share pics of the Anniversary Cake and Anniversary Card delivered to our room at the Grand Floridian. They turned out AWESOME!!

QUOTE]

Thanks for sharing. You've helped me with an idea for our fall trip. I ordered a cake in 2013 and had it say "3 Magical Years" It was going to be an anniversary surprise for my husband. Prior to it's arrival in our room, he jokingly (rudely!) referred to our anniversary as "3 Longgggggggg Years" Well, we laughed about it for the whole trip, but part of me wanted to call the bakery and have them change the cake to say "3 Long Years". We still laugh about it!

I've been trying to think of what to do for a cake for this year's trip and I really like what you did. Would you mind sharing price?

We are 30 days out, do I need to be contacting them now?

You could! I usually wait til 2 weeks out, but if it's something complicated or you're just worried about communication difficulties, I don't think now is too early.

I love Disney cakes. And I love this thread. Thanks, Lurkyloo and others, for keeping it updated with prices and contact info, and of course, all of the wonderful photos. Our next trip is coming up in 6 months and I'm pretty sure I will be treating us to a cake. Seeing as I still dream about our delicious wedding cake from the Grand Floridian (almond cake with amaretto mousse), I will probably order it there. As delicious as our wedding cake tasted (LOVED it!!!!), the design process still stings, though. I'm not sure if the bakery is to blame for that or if it was my wedding planner, but I'm wondering if I should attempt a do-over. For my wedding, I requested an UP! themed cake. The design they proposed was a sheet cake with some balloons drawn on top and some dry ice to give the effect of clouds. I envisioned a tiered wedding cake, which I had told my planner from the very beginning. Well, we never did get past this design and somehow I ended up designing my own cake using some of the standard wedding cake designs I was able to locate online (that was long before I knew about Pinterest, Disney Facebook Wedding groups, etc.). I was happy with how it turned out, but I still dream about what might have been with that UP! cake... There's only going to be me, DH, and our two 3-year olds on this trip, so we don't need a full-sized wedding cake, but I'm curious what they might be able to come up with. Or maybe I'm just setting myself up for disappointment and should keep it simple and go with "Happy Anniversary!" Other suggestions are definitely welcome :)

Just for fun, here are a couple of pics from J and N's 1st birthday (made by a local bakery, not Disney).
