should I split a stay to save six points?

Is it worth it to split a stay, five night, six night akl and okw to save six points? We are in a bit of a deficit situation. Figure it would help us dig out a bit quicker. We are a family of five. The kids are 6, 6, 11.

Could you buy one time use points for $90 to fill the deficit?

I would probably do the split stay, just to see both resorts. We're doing 3 nights HRH (Hard Rock Hotel--on the dark side)/5 nights BWV/ 4 nights BLT this summer. We didn't have to do the BWV/BLT split stay, but I thought it would be fun to stay at BLT. I wouldn't do that to save $90 if I found split stays to be a pain, though.

Sure, that's long enough at each resort. It'll feel like a new vacation. Just have a plan for moving day. (remember that you'll still have access to the AK pool on checkout day even though after that day you can't hop to that pool)

Buy more points.

Seriously, is it worth $90 to you, for this trip, to not split stay? That's the market value, the opportunity cost, of the points and that's the real question.

Thanks for the replies. It's a moot point this morning as okw is now booked for part of the time I wanted it. We don't need more points. I rented some to my sil this year and we've gone down a lot. When I'm in borrowing mode, I'm always anxious to get out of it. I'm only 122 points in the hole. On an 860 point ownership, I guess I can deal with that. Makes me uncomfortable though.

We have almost as many points as your family has, and there is no way that I would split a stay for 6 points when I have over 800. We also borrowed some points this year - we rented some extra points for the first time in the fall and then ended up booking a longer BLT stay, so we ended up being short.

I also don't like to have to borrow, but we will stay at a cheaper point resort in 2016 and catch up that way!

I have half as many points as both of you, and I've got to say it: I'm jealous.

That's what we plan on doing. Bwv stAndard or okw for a bit.

Ha! We started with 200. Then we added to get a one br. Then our family grew so we added on again. Then dh wanted more holiday time. Another add on. Now dvc is actually a really affordable option for us. Traveling with five isn't cheap. Today I was thinking that I might just start saving so I could bring us up to an even 1000.

I split a stay for the first day of I get in late!
I will split the last night or 2 to go from a studio to one bedroom just to do laundry.
I will also split to get a deluxe dining plan for 1 or 2 nights.

So split stays for me are no big deal

We do not like split stays but we have little kids who still nap, and only nap in the bed or, if tired enough, in a car.

6 pts is not a lot of points. If a split stay is a hassle, then it may not be worth it.

Will Disney move your luggage on a split stay? For example, 3 days at Poly & 2 days at Bay Lake?

Yes. You pack up and ring bell services by check out. They go to your room and pick up (you have to be there). Your luggage will be at bell services in your second resort by 4pm. You call down and they will bring it to to your room.

No split stay for this trip but we may split for January to help save a few points.

If we are going for longer than a week we will do a split stay. It makes the vacation seem longer. I do feel I need at least 3 nights in each resort to really appreciate it. We are no longer commando park goers so it is nice to sit back and enjoy the resort.

We're doing this in the fall. My plan is to have bell services hold our luggage while we go to the pool. Then when I get a text from BLT with my room, have DH take a cab with all our stuff over to BLT. The kids and I can monorail over. Cab would be $5-10 and we wouldn't have to wait for the luggage transfer.

We almost always do split stays but not because of points. For just DH and I, we like to stay at BLT for 4 or 5 days and then stay at BCV for 4 or 5 days. Less time spent on transportation. But then there is the tipping involved for bell services to pick up and deliver our bags.

If I was in your place, I'd stay at AKL. Less trouble with packing and unpacking with a family. If it was for an Epcot or MK resort, it would be a harder choice.

If I was THAT concerned about the points, I'd drop a day or buy a few points as others have mentioned.

I've fainted.

We have 160 points, have been in constant borrowing mode since 2009 and it doesn't give us a bit of discomfort. 680 points and worrying about 6 points sounds like heaven to me!

I know, I know. I have this deep seated fear that I will run out of points. Then what? Ill have to take time off. That is not happening. Hence borrowing gives me hives but I can't seem to stop booking vacations. It's a disease.

No way would I do a split stay to save 6 points. NO WAY. But I HATE split stays and only have done them under very rare, no-other-option circumstances. When I am on vacation I don't want to waste a single extra minute with packing/unpacking. I don't like borrowing either but we do it to accommodate bringing family/friends. You would think that with 1150 points we could avoid borrowing, but we do borrow and even have had to transfer in and rent points!
