Add a night for cheaper FLIGHT.

Package booked for Oct. 25 Sunday to Oct. 31 sat.
Watching flight prices now.
Was wondering if it would make sense to fly in on a later sat flight and get a one night room and switch to package room on Sunday. Flights I see now are hundreds cheaper on Sat. Aft. Compared to Sunday morning. Dining plan starts on Sunday so I can't just change that package date. Or I loose FD.
If savings on the flight offset the cost of the room, we would be ready to hit the park early Sunday...
I would book 1 night room now and cancel if flights don't work out right.

See any problems doing this.

Thanks
Steve

We're going during the same time and will book an extra night on the 24th but we're taking an earlier flight. Might as well get as much out of that day as we can.

I added a day at the end of my trip..paid $218 for my room and saved $300 on 3 airline tickets AND got an extra day in Disney..Win Win!!!

I do it all the time.

My fave setup is to book the late flight the night before. We leave after work so no need to request that extra vacation day. When we leave, we take the afternoon or evening flight out so we still have the mornings for a last trip to the parks. If it qualifies for free dining, even better - just have to pay for one extra room night to get an entire day of free dining extra.

Recently, flight prices have bumped up for late night flights for us so we have started doing early morning flights. My family is NOT liking leaving the house at 4am to get the 6am flight. On our last trip, they were grumpy until at least 9am. I miss our late night flights.

One thing to know - Magical Express won't deliver your luggage magically if you arrive after 10pm. So you have to go get your bags and bring them to the magical Express bus yourself. And then move it to your room at the resort (or get the bellhop to help).

Depending on how much you save, I would consider booking the hyatt at the airport. That way you can wake up, get on the first ME, and be at your hotel early. Then you'd have the day to enjoy the parks. Those rooms are about $200 though, so you'd have to save a big amount on airfare.

We considered doing this on our Dec.'14 trip and the reviews on the Hyatt are quite good. Good plan, but you are right...factor into the cost of the room versus the savings on a night flight...ENJOY!:goodvibes

We did this on our last trip. The cost of the flight a day later for all of us was going to be more than the cost of the hotel room. We flew in on the cheaper flight the night before, had a late dinner and went to bed. We were ready for MK the next day.

It was an option for us on a previous trip but after we factored in the hotel room and food costs it didn't make sense.

We did a late flight for our December 2014 trip and then just stayed at the MCO Hyatt that night. I think the night cost us $169/night, but we saved over $100 per ticket, and there are 4 of us, so it definitely made sense for us. Frankly, paying Disney's rates for an extra night wasn't really worth it, but the Hyatt made sense. Plus it was super convenient. We just hopped on DME the next day. It was perfect.

About staying at the airport??? I like this idea…. I'll check it out.
Whats the cancelation policy? I know with disney room only I can still cancel pretty close to departure date.
Also is DME travel tied to the day of my flight? ( actually I could just leave my original flight info that was for the next day on the original package plan. they don't know I flew in the night before on a different flight? )

My family thinks I'm nuts doing all this planning and replanning … I almost enjoy this as much as the trip…. lol

Its all going to come down to the costs of the flight. Figure I'll give it till July or August to book for the last week of October trip..
Unless a good price comes up..
Would prefer JetBlue, more room and assigned seats but southwests ability to make free changes is also very attractive…
It will be one of those out of PVD..

thanks all

100% add the front night and save on the airline $! No one can argue with an extra night in Disney! :)

bwahaha-this is how it starts! Did the same thing for original reservation; ended up Allegiant cheapest flight (even after all the fees) by several hundred dollars but didn't have a flight on original leave date - so I added in a night. Then switched resorts. Then added a week offsite so we can see friends and do Universal. After all-flights are an expense no matter how long the trip right ?:rotfl: But we did save a bit on return trip too by changing return dates...and offsite is our timeshare exchange. Really I didn't have to twist hubbys arms too much

The Hyatt's cancellation policy was 24 hours in advance, I believe. I don't remember it being any different from any other hotel. Also, they give you an opportunity to book whatever room, but then you can request a contingent upgrade for a reduced cost. So we ended up with a junior suite for only $40 more a standard room because one was available when we checked in and we'd signed up for it on a contingent basis ahead of time.

DME isn't tied to your flight, it's tied to your Disney reservation. When you set up DME, you can just give flight information that aligns with your first day at Disney (even if it's not your actual flight...they have no way of knowing) or you can just tell them when you need to be picked up at the airport. All DME really cares about is that you have a Disney reservation, though...they don't care when you fly into MCO. All they care about is when they need to get you to Disney to start your stay there.

DH and I are in the exact same situation. As of today, the flight time we originally wanted is available, at a decent price. Normally we take an early morning flight, but a cheap flight the night before is appealing, too. Then you are at Disney ready to go first thing in the morning. What to do, what to do?

Even if we don't save any $$ in total, we will ALWAYS chose to be in the World a day/night earlier for the same $$. And we've never regretted it.
